How can The Guardian newspaper utilise the rise in citizen and hyperlocal journalists in order to combat the current ‘journalism crisis’? News Values (Galtung & Ruge 1965; Harcup, T & O’Neil D, 2001) Empowerment of Citizens (Lewis, 2006) Journalism Crisis (Peters, C., & Broersma 2013) As we progress into technological age (Fenton, 2010) the conventional methods of consuming news has undoubtedly changed (Nguyen, A. 2003). Traditionally, citizens consume their news through TV news broadcasts and daily newspapers, however in the past decade the consumption of news has shifted to digital formats. Now citizens are able to consume their news via a smartphone, tablet or Internet web pages. I will be investigating how The Guardian newspaper can utilise this new trend to prevent the well- documented ‘Journalism Crisis’. Galtung, J., & Ruge, M. H. (1965).
