What is an OLED?What is an OLED?
An OLED is any light emitting diode (LED) in which emissive An OLED is any light emitting diode (LED) in which emissive electroluminescent layer is composed of a film of organic electroluminescent layer is composed of a film of organic compoundscompounds

the cathode and the anode layers the cathode and the anode layers A current is applied across the LED, A current is applied across the LED,
where electrons move from cathode to where electrons move from cathode to anode anode
The cathode gives electrons to the The cathode gives electrons to the emissive layer, where the anode withdraws emissive layer, where the anode withdraws these electrons from the conductive layerthese electrons from the conductive layer
The emissive layer becomes rich in The emissive layer becomes rich in negative charge while the conductive layer negative charge while the conductive layer becomes more positively charged becomes more positively charged
The two charges recombine in the The two charges recombine in the emissive layer, creating a drop in energy emissive layer, creating a drop in energy levels of the electronslevels of the electrons
The drop in energy levels results in The drop in energy levels results in radiation that is on the visible spectrum, radiation that is on the visible spectrum, emitting light emitting light

As OLEDs emit light, they can be used to make lighting panels - these will be thin, efficient, and potential transparent too. Your window can become a lamp at night
OLEDs can also be used to make white lighting panels. OLEDs provide great area lighting, and a curved or flexible
OLED will enable a wide range of beautiful lamp designs.

AMOLEDAMOLED ((active-matrix organic light-emitting diodeactive-matrix organic light-emitting diode))
AMOLEDAMOLED
is a display technology for use in mobile devices and televisions
active matrix refers to the technology behind the addressing of pixels.
AMOLED technology is used in mobile phones, media players and digital cameras
When you display an image, you actually display it line by line (sequentially) as you can only change one line at a time. An AMOLED uses a TFT which contains a storage capacitor which maintains the line pixel states, and so
enables large size (and large resolution) displays.
