Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED)

Technical Seminar By Ishan UpadhyayR790211019Organic Light Emitting Diodes (OLED)An OLED is an electronic device made by placing a series of organic thin films between two conductors. When electrical current is applied, a bright light is emitted. A device that is 100 to 500 nanometers thick or about 200 times smaller than a human hair. Organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) operate on the principle of converting electrical energy into light, a phenomenon known as electroluminescence. They are named organic because they consist primarily of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. What is an OLED?

How OLEDs Emit Light

Electrical current flows from the cathode to the anode through the organic layer giving electrons to the emissive layer and removing electrons from the conductive layer.Removing electrons from the conductive layer leaves holes that need to be filled with the electrons in the emissive layer. The holes jumps to the emissive layer and recombine with the electrons. As the electrons drop into the holes they release there extra energy as light.

Types of OLEDsPassive-Matrix

The PMOLED structure is arranged in a format that has rows and columns. There are columns of organic cathodes superimposed on rows of anode material.Active-Matrix

Same as the Passive Matrix Oled but comparably consume less power. Flexible

A flexible OLED is based on a flexible substrate which can be either plastic, metal or flexible glass.White OLED
