second in both events at the NCAA Championships, finishing just short of the top mark at each meet. He added even more impressive lines to his resume this summer by winning the senior hammer title at the British Championships and taking silver in the Common-wealth Games. Kirubel Erassa returns as the leader of the Cowboys’ distance attack, along with Shane Moskowitz and Chad Noelle - a trio from last season’s All-American indoor distance medley relay squad. Erassa matched Miller’s second-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships, completing the 3,000 meters in 8:13.08. Oklahoma State also brings back plenty of talent on the sprints side, anchored by breakout star Tyreek Hill. The speedster opened his collegiate career by topping the 200 meters at the Big 12 Championships, where he also set the school record in the 60 meter dash. After helping the Cowboys to a conference championship, Hill took fifth at NCAAs with a 200 time of 20.57, breaking the school record by nearly a full second. Fellow sprinter John Teeters combines with Hill to give Oklahoma State a top-tier speed duo. Newcomers Tyler Jackson, Brandon Singleton, Arlando Brewer-Johnson and JUCO All-American transfer Sharod Selph add to the mix, giving the Cowboys one of its most talented sprint squads in school history. Conall Kirk, a middle distance standout from Holywood, Northern Ireland, teams up with incoming cross country standouts Vegard Oelstad, Cerake Geberkidane and Chan-dler Austin to give Oklahoma State a deep distance crew. Kirk begins his OSU career after an outstanding performance in junior European competition. The highlights extended off the track as well, as OSU coach Dave Smith landed mul-tiple first-time track accolades. He won Big 12 Indoor Coach of the Year and USTFCCA Midwest Region Coach of the Year for the first time in his coaching career. He is first Cowboy coach in history to win a conference track & field coach of the year award. In 2014, Oklahoma State became the first school in Big 12 history to win conference titles in both men’s team cross country and indoor track & field. This year, they’ll have a chance to not only repeat that feat, but improve on last season’s success.
WOMEN'S SEASON PREVIEW In 2014, the Oklahoma State women’s track and field squad recorded its best finish at the outdoor conference meet since 2005, marking the Cowgirls’ resurgence intobeing a contender for the Big 12 title. Led by the efforts of Monika Juodeskaite, Savannah Camacho and Kaela Edwards, Oklahoma State finished 7th at both the indoor and outdoor conference meets. Each member of the Cowgirl trio went on to earn All-American status as well, leaving the 2015 team with a solid combination of returners. Natalja Piliusina, who won the 2013 NCAA outdoor 1,500 meters championship, is also back and has already become one of the all-time great female track athletes at OSU. Injuries hampered Piliusina throughout last season, but with a full season to train and recover, the Lithuanian star will be back on the track in 2015 and looking to build on each of her seven school records. Along with the more experienced members of the team, Camacho and Edwards provided a spark from the Cowgirls’ youth by respectively finishing second and third in the 800 meters of the NCAA Indoor Championships, marking All-American status for each of the two redshirt freshmen. Camacho, a native of Paso Robles, Calif., also provided a first-place performance at Big 12s by completing the 1,000 meters in 2:49.97, OSU’s sixth-best mark ever. Viktoriia Sadokhina, another Cowgirl who made her debut in 2014, grabbed the triple jump’s title at each of the conference championships and should give Oklahoma State a contender in jumps competition for the next three years. Sadokhina’s mark of 13.35 meters at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships also set a new school record and helped her qualify for a spot at the NCAA West Preliminary meet. Finalizing the Cowgirls’ returning squad are promising duos on the distance and throwing sides. Chase Ealey and Ieva Zarankaite each registered multiple All-Big 12 performances in outdoor competition, as Ealey took fifth in the javelin and sixth in the shot put, while Zarankaite finished third in the discus and seventh in the javelin. The excitement of the Cowgirls’ returning class is nearly matched by its wealth of talented newcomers, a group head coach Dave Smith hails as one his all-time deepest. The Oklahoma State sprinters are aided by a quartet of incoming freshmen, including Kaylee Dodd, whose 800 meter time of 2:06.44 is the all-time quickest mark for an incom-ing Cowgirl, Stephanie Ferrante, Summor Fields, Danielle Coleman and Oklahoma native Brittany Stallings, a two-time state champion at Okmulgee HS. On the distance side, three international standouts give the Cowgirls a stacked group from top to bottom, beginning with Ingeborg Loevnes, a two-time qualifier in IAAF World Junior Championships competition. Loevnes hails from Stavanger, Norway, not far from fellow Norwegian newcomers Aurora Dybedokken and Ida Oesteras. Jennifer Celis, a nine-time individual state champion from Hotchkiss, Colo., and Molly Sughroue, a three-time All-State selection from McCook, Neb., round out the Cowgirls’ incoming distance class.
