The rise of the lake has slowed and is presently at the 13.72 feet. After spending everyday in the last week on the lake my hopes for great fishing have been realized.

Speck fishermen are catching large specks in the grass around the lake. The specks are hold-ing in 4 to 5 feet of water. Some days anglers are catching them right in the cover, while oth-er days the fish are holding off of the cover, either on a small drop or in light bottom cover. Jigs have been the weapon of choice for tak-ing these tasty fish. Colors have varied widely with each angler having a preference. I suggest trying different colors until you find the one they will eat.

As we were loading the boat earlier this week we ran into a couple of gentlemen that had a bucket full of big shellcracker they caught on grass shrimp. They were quite secretive about the whereabouts of their honey hole, as I would have expected from any angler.

Bass fishing is superb. We had several bass over eight pounds this past week and quite honestly think that you could just about catch

as many bass on shiners as you want. However, many shiners taken are eaten by hungry bass. The numbers of four pound plus fish are stag-gering. We are in a very good place on the lake right now for catching fish of all species. The amount of native vegetation is comparable to 30 years ago. One way to cash in on this bass bonanza.
