Bunnings BBQ On Saturday the 15th of May, you will find some BCS staff and students at the Bunnings BBQ in Sale between 9am-4pm. Some of our student leaders came up with the idea of running one of the Bunnings BBQs in order to fundraise some money to purchase some new equipment, toys and other resources that could be used at recess and lunch time for various sporting and other activities. We are in search of some helpers/volunteers who might be interested in lending some of their time down at the BBQ on the day. Roster spots are allocated in hour blocks from 8:30am. If you are able to help out, please contact the school to let us know of your availability. Kindest of regards,
Daniel Clark,
Principal

Sports Report What a great day we had last Friday for our Cross Country. Thank you to all that were able to come along and support the students on the day, it was great to have the community back in the school grounds. It was amazing to see all of the students give it their best under the heat of the day. I was so proud of the effort they all put in. The points were very close this year for the houses. Blue house took out the win, with green house coming in a close second, gold thirds and red in fourth place. I would also like to thank the staff for their help on the day, it wouldn’t run if it wasn’t for their help.
We had winners in each year level, even though each student was a winner for taking part in the day. The results for the day were: We have a team heading to the HDSSA Cross Country on Monday in Heyfield. I wish them all the very best and know they will represent Boisdale with pride. Mel Glover

Indonesian A big thank you (terima kasih) to Brenda and the Mirams/Neaves family for donating Indonesian puppets and a book to the LOTE program. They are great additions to the resources in the room and will be very useful in helping teach students about Indonesian culture and language.
The Child Safe Standards The Child Safe Standards are compulsory minimum standards for all Victorian early childhood services and schools, to create and maintain a child safe organisation.
As are all schools, our school is committed to each of the seven standards and the ‘principle of inclusion’ that sits alongside the standards. The standards are:
Child Safe Standard 1: Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety
Child Safe Standard 2: A child safety policy or a statement of commitment to child safety
Child Safe Standard 3: A Child Safety Code of Conduct
Child Safe Standard 4: Screening, supervision, training and other human resource practices that reduce the risk of child abuse
Child Safe Standard 5: Procedures for responding to and reporting suspected child abuse
Child Safe Standard 6: Strategies to identify and reduce or remove risks of child abuse
Child Safe Standard 7: Strategies to promote child participation and empowerment
Throughout the term, we will be sharing information in the newsletter each week in regards to our commitment to each of the standards. This week, we are beginning with the ‘principle of inclusion’. The ‘Principle of Inclusion’ involves schools taking into account and making reasonable efforts to accommodate the diversity of all children in implementing the Child Safe Standards. This includes:
commemorating or celebrating culturally significant events such as NAIDOC week;
training for school staff on supporting diverse families; and
ensuring that the school’s Child Safety Policy refers to the diversity of all children, and specifically mentions Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island children, children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, children with disabilities, and children who are vulnerable.
In next week’s newsletter we will be highlighting Standard 1: Strategies to embed an organisational culture of child safety.

12HB & 12R
On Wednesday the grade 1/2 students participated in our ‘Around the World’ unit Immersion Day. In
mixed grade groups, students learnt all about Australia and will use this knowledge to make comparisons as we look at the other 6 continents throughout the remainder of the term. Students
completed literacy activities based on the story Possum Magic by Mem Fox, practiced their maths skills in the kitchen making lamingtons, identified native plants and animals in a craft session with Miss
Rawson and played some great Australian games outside in the sunshine.
