An affinity for fine arts is what started the journey of one of the Middle Easts hottest talents in the industry right now. That, paired with an equivocal love for fabrics, textile and
colour, and being handpicked by Elie Saab to join his creative department, were the building blocks that set Krikor Jabotian on a whirlwind few years that have now landed him in quite an enviable position. One of the challenges that comes with the territory is the unstable political situation. Fashion is a reflection of our culture and the environment we live in, says Jabotian, The precarious nature of Lebanon affects the state of mind of the designer, the buyer, and the tourists that come here to enjoy the country and what it has to offer, fashion included. In spite of all this he continues to excel, his name now one to watch on the international fashion scene. His bridal wear is breathtakingly beautiful, exuding an ethereal air where couture takes on a modern twist. I like my bride to always look timeless. This doesnt mean the dress has to be classic. This means it has to age well. Nothing you would look back and regret.
Sarah Jessica parker is someone who i admire. Shes serious about fashion but in a playful way. She can pull of any look without ever looking ridiculous.
To say his pieces are anything but dramatic is nothing short of an understatement; think couture-like meets a dash of whimsical fairy tale-ness and youve hit the nail on the head. krikor jabotian, the Lebanese designer whose brilliant pieces are stealing the spotlight, speaks to Ohlala! on growing up, the challenges of the middle east and Sarah jessica Parker.

ramI kaDIIf you come from the middle east then you know for a
bride finding her wedding dress is a life changing moment. enter rami kadi, Lebanons hottest new designer that has the regions brides flocking to for that coveted wow factor.
www.ohlala-magazine.com 51OHLALA!
Having mastered the art of haute couture and proven to the world that when it comes to elegance, opulence and
standout creativity they are not to be messed with, Lebanon has bred a slew of distinctively talented designers who have left their fashion footprint. Following in the same steps as Elie Saab and Georges Chakra before him, is the Middle Easts newly christened master of femininity; 28-year-old Rami Kadi. In just a few years
MadE in ThE MiddLE EaST
this fashion maverick has managed to establish a clientele of local A-listers as well as a bevy of regional pop stars, who turn to the designer when in need to stand out. The woman I design for is one that turns heads wherever she goes, leaving a trail of seduction and mystery behind - shes a woman who blows life into the garment she is wearing, says Kadi. And he couldnt
be more right; looking at his intricate couture designs, you cant miss noticing the work that goes behind the luxurious handmade details and exquisite craftsmanship. I have been interested in
fashion for as long as I remember, Kadi explains, Early in my childhood, I used to alter my moms clothes and help her pick her outfits, and by the time I graduated from high school I had already decided that my vocation was to pursue a career in the fashion field. It was only natural that I enrolled in ESMOD Beirut in 2005, from which I graduated with honours and distinctions in 2008. In a short span of time, one that has been impressive as it has been fast, the Lebanese designer has made his name synonymous with beautiful bridal wear, where the Arab worlds socialite flock to for an appointment to have him dress them for the big day. For me I envision my brides to be very royal but modern at the same time. The dress would have rich volume; all made with lace, silk embroidery and Swarovski crystals. As for the colour, I dont see it white but light pink, Kadi says dreamily. And looking at his designs swoosh across the runway, were sure that every bride-to-be is dreaming of getting her hands on one of his coveted pieces.

Chopard pays homage to the beautiful creatures that make up our world.
THe anImaL kInGDom
While celebrating the 150th anniversary of the House of Chopard back in 2010, Caroline Scheufele, the Artistic Director and Co-President of the luxury brand, dreamed up an extraordinary bestiary composed of 150 different animals, all one-of-a-kind creations. Hence the Animal World Collection was born, breathing life into all kinds of creatures; from insects, reptiles and fish to the wildest of animals. Chopard has managed to contribute to the emergence of a new modern vision of jewellery, and the result is a wonderful line of animals adorned with the housess most precious stones, proving that there is a humourous and mischievous side to Chopard. Still bursting with ideas and inspiration on this theme, Caroline Scheufele has decided to continue exploring the animal kingdom from a jewellery angle. This year the brand welcomes in two new Haute Joaillerie watches, thus enriching the Animal World family. A naughty brown diamond chimpanzee brings a mischievous twist with emeralds, tsavorites and reddish orange sapphires; while a dainty snail in subtle shades of brown and cognac-coloured diamonds is a cute addition to a wonderful take on our animal kingdom.

The pre-Wedding Facial
Tried &TestedOhlala! went on a mission to find the most indulgent treatment in town; here our beauty editor re-
counts her quest for the much coveted glow.
S.O.S! My skin has been crying out for a quick summer pick-me-up. I might not be getting married, but with the slew of wedding invitations I have accepted for the next two months I feel like its my big day coming up. Now the mission to find where to have said facial seemed easier when I put up my hand to do the review; the city is buzzing with a myriad of spas each advertising their treatment as the deal du jour. Much research
my facialist peels off a hardened cast of my face. She swiftly cleans up any residue and polishes me up for what sadly is the end of a wonderful treatment. The result: the exquisite facial, which uses a sequence of timeless anti-ageing techniques founded in Ayurvedic healing, has left me with a glowing complexion and a realistic plan on how to best manage my skin. To say that I left happy is an understatement; Ive already booked another treatment for next month!Book an appointment at the Four Seasons Doha Spa by calling 4494 8888
later, and a bit of investigative journalism of course, I head over to West Bays luxury address: The Four Seasons Doha. I have booked myself in for their Samadara Facial, which promises me to leave with my best face forward. Entering the haven that is the spa, and I already feel half my woes being left behind at the door; meditative music, muted colours and a zen like atmosphere are already helping me unwind. Im whisked away to get changed and sip on lemongrass-chilled water before Im taken for my treatment. A pretty therapist welcomes me into a dimly lit room and immediately I begin to relax; it is always reassuring when your facialist has flawless skin, no? The first step to the Ultimate Age-Defying Facial starts off with a general cleanse using a mixture of chamomile and lavender. My skin tingles as Im sprayed with a calming Rose Mist that preps my face for a trio of Eye Lifting Gel, Balancing Face and Neck Moisturizer and Eye and Lip Smoother. I get a gentle massage to get my circulation flowing with a beautiful pair of cool diamond like crystals; who knew that a girls best friend could be used for such a thing? Its on to the most important part of the treatment, one that if youre claustrophobic is definitely worth skipping: The Thermal Mask. A thick, exotic smelling might I add, mask is gently brushed on to my face and covered by layers of what I can only assume to be mesh. After that, a towel is set atop the said concoction and, as Im left in the darkness of my facial cocoon, I can feel the mask heat up. Twenty minutes later and an arm scrub and massage after, Im set free as

w What tips do you have for brides planning a wedding?Dont Stress out! Start off with a list of the most important things you need to get done like picking a date, drawing a budget, booking the hotel, etc. Then cross them off as you go.What has been the most outrageous wedding you have ever planned?Last April, we hosted a wedding for 900 guests and let me tell you, the bride was not the easiest to deal with but I understand, with such a number, I would freak out myself ! I had to put up with all the mood swings and make sure everything ran smoothly. They even brought international acts and changed entertainment several times just a few days before the wedding. Have you ever had any exceptional demands?I had a bride who wanted to enter the ballroom on a crane! What do you think are the big wedding donts?Dont leave things to the last minute; never think that minor stuff can be delayed. What are the current wedding trends in Qatar? These days weddings have to have a huge catwalk for the bride to walk down and a massive dance floor for her friends to dance on. Sweet trays are a must to be distributed amongst guests as well as traditional Arabic coffee and dates.

Maserati GhibliThe Ghibli achieves the impressive task of introducing
a more accessible Maserati sedan without compromising on power, style or luxury.
Maserati is an exotic brand, and as such, a purchase of one is not driven by the mind, but by the heart. It is never a sensible choice to buy an exotic Italian
brand, simply because theyre luxury goods, and therefore very expensive.
It is therefore of the utmost importance that a Maserati appeals to the senses and the emotions above all else, because it is by winning over these that they will win over customers.
Ive driven several Maserati models over the years, and each and every one of them has
been stunning it its own way, but each has also been let down by imperfections that a car of its calibre shouldnt have. For example, a few years ago I drove a Quattroporte, and while I was impressed by its looks, its power and its ride comfort, I was equally unimpressed by a slightly dated looking interior and a very dated infotainment system.
More recently, we drove a drop-dead-gorgeous metallic blue GranTurismo Sport, which was beautiful in every single way except for, once again, the dated infotainment system.
Maseratis of today, however, have addressed all of these issues, and the Ghibli is no
www.ohlala-magazine.com 93OHLALA!
The Ghibli is, without a doubt, the most complete Maserati weve had the pleasure to drive so far
exception. Once again, the infotainment system was the least impressive thing about the Ghibli, but not because it is dated, or poor quality. It is, in fact, extremely good, with intuitive controls, a modern looking interface, and really nice graphics on the satnav.
No, the reason why the infotainment system on the Ghibli is the least impressive thing about it is because the rest of the car is so damn good!
It is beautiful both without and within. From the outside, it manages to accomplish the same delicate balancing act that the Quattroporte does, boasting that classic Maserati styling whilst still looking like a car of this day and age. With smooth, sweeping lines and an aggressive stance, the car exudes an aura of power and speed, and is a pleasure to behold.
Inside, the beauty continues it is one of the best-looking interiors Ive ever seen, with smooth, curving lines and plush leather surfaces wherever you look, and not a harsh angle in sight. It screams luxury, and makes
the driver satisfied that it is worth every penny of the many thousands theyve spent on it!
To drive, it is as sublime as the rest of the Maserati fleet, combining a smooth, refined ride with impressive handling and power on tap to create a car that is truly a joy to drive.
Our particular model was the standard Ghibli, boasting a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 with 330hp and an impressive 500Nm of torque. Itll propel the Ghibli from standstill to 100km/h in jut 5.6 seconds, and on to a top speed of 263km/h.
Figures for the Ghibli S are even more impressive the same engine is tuned to 410hp/550Nm, and it will hit 100km/h in 5 seconds, and top out at 285km/h.
The Ghibli is, without a doubt, the most complete Maserati Ive had the pleasure to drive so far, although I havent driven any others of the most recent Maserati range. I think that just means Ive got a lot to look forward to!
The Maserati Ghibli will appeal to the style-conscious woman who appreciates luxurious italian design and passion for beauty.

its a style that has inspired countless classic sports cars since it was first introduced to a Porsche 911 almost half a century ago. The targa is defined as a semi-convertible model boasting a detachable roof with a full-width roll bar behind the front seats and a fixed rear window. It was a style first seen on the 1966 Porsche Targa, and while many other automotive manufacturers have since emulated it, the Targa remains purely a Porsche concept, and is indeed a registered Porsche trademark.
The latest 911 Targa goes back to a classic Porsche design whereas the last three generations, the 993, 996 and 997, had a retractable roof that slid back like a sunroof, this latest model raises the rear glass window, and packs the roof away behind the rear seats, leaving just the window behind.
Just like the original model, the new 911 Targa features the characteristic wide bar in place of the B-pillars, a movable roof section above the front seats and a wraparound rear window with

no C-pillar. But unlike the classic models, the roof segment can be opened and closed at the push of a button in just 19 seconds.
The models joining the 911 line-up are the Targa 4 and Targa 4S, both all-wheel-drive models, with the 4 powered by a 3.4-litre, 350hp flat engine. When equipped with the Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) and Sport Chrono package, this model accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.8 seconds and boasts a top speed of 282 km/h.
The 4S delivers 400hp from a displacement of 3.8 litres. This model reaches a top speed
of 296 km/h and, when equipped with the PDK and Sport Chrono package, accelerates to 100km/h in just 4.4 seconds.
The power from the flat-six engines is transmitted by a standard seven-speed manual transmission. The highly impressive and super-fast automatic seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK) is available as an option on both models.
Salman Jassem Al Darwish, Chairman and CEO of Porsche Centre Doha, said: The 911 is a sports car which has won more races than any other and, in this latest evolution, I believe it has never looked more spectacular. In the 911 Targa, we see the ultimate in driving dynamics come together with stunning design and the very latest in ground-breaking roof technology. The cars arrival here in Qatar signifies a new chapter in the legendary models evolution and I am incredibly proud and excited to welcome it.To find out more, contact the Porsche Centre Doha on +974 4459 9666.

LOCATED ON THE THIRD FLOOR of the busy West Bay hotel, Hwang is stealing the spotlight as the latest Pan Asian restaurant to hit the Doha food scene. From delicate Cantonese cooking to fiery Sichuan delights, the promise of an exotic culinary journey throughout Asia is what this new eatery is all about. Offering sumptuously delicious inspired dishes from Thailand, Korea, Japan and China to Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia, the restaurant serves a diverse menu blending fresh ingredients with a variety of incredible Asian flavours. A bright, yet warm colour scheme dramatically offsets the menu at Hwang, which means yellow in ancient Chinese. With so many options, diners are provided with a comprehensive list of the very best dishes out of Asia; just dont be afraid to experiment! Select the Shabu-shabu, the Orients version of fondue, one of the highlights of the place, which comes with an array of broths and dipping sauces, as well as meats, seafood, vegetables, rice and noodles. The Singaporean chili crab, gaeng phed yang and traditional Korean jjamppong are all must-haves, delivering on both spice and complex seasoning associated with such exotic dishes. Created to perfectly pair with the food menu, Hwang features a bright mix of signature cocktails and mocktails as well as traditional sake. So whether its dim sum youre dreaming of or a stir-fried Pad Thai that hits your spot, this is definitely the place to get your chopsticks out and ready!

THe FIve GIRLS yOu FIND AT A WeDDING
I AM RUNNING OUT OF DRESSESTHIS MONTH because of the amount of weddings that are jam packed into my weekends. The dress you wear to a wedding defines who you are going to be that night, and so the decision cannot be taken lightly. So before looking through your wardrobes, lets analyse the types of girls you find at weddings so you can decide wisely. tHe oNe tHat is DyiNg to get marrieD The dress: emperor cut, long with a train. Not too much cleavage. Hair up. This is the girl who runs around the wedding telling everyone that would listen how much she wants to find someone. She looks lovely this evening but no man asks her to dance because of that eager smile and the desperation in her eyes. She doesnt spend too much time making small talk with anyone except for eligible bachelors because this girl is on a mission! Sadly, this is also the girl who ends up disappointed later, because none of those bachelors ever call her although she gave each of them her number, twice.
tHe girl tHat WaNts to HaVe fUN The dress: This old thing? The Little Black Dress. usually too much cleavage or no back. From afar she may come across like girl number 1, but if you look closely you will realize she is the one actually getting all male attention. Her dress is tight, her heels are high (although she takes them off and dances barefoot after a few hours) and she is most probably already a bit lightheaded by the time you get there. Most girls dont think shes pretty, but the best man sure does! To cut a long story short: she never goes home alone.
tHe miNioNThe dress: Cute with ribbons and bows. Comfortable shoes because this girl needs to run around all night. Every bride is queen bee on her wedding night, and there is always a girl standing right next to her
throughout the evening. She holds her perfume, fluffs her dress and tops up her lipstick for her throughout the wedding. Now if this girl is the brides sister or best friend then she is not a minion, this girl Im talking about assumes this role at every wedding. She gets off just being close to something so shiny and pretty.
tHe VixeN The dress: bold colors and lots of jewellery that oozes confidence. This girl is a mean one. She spends the whole wedding criticizing everything from the choice of song for the first dance to the setup. Oh my god, did you see the way she was looking at her ex? I mean it was so obvious she wishes it was him she was marrying. Maybe then she would have invested in a dress that doesnt look like she bought it off of e-bay. You know this girl because either you are her, or, you guiltily indulge in her stories.
tHe filler The dress: Timeless. This dress has no specific style nor significance but is pretty and flattering. Her dress is boring and her presence is unnoticed. She is at the wedding because she is invited and so feels it is her duty to attend. She merely fills up the background of the wedding. I mean, she doesnt even post a selfie on Instagram!
We are all one of these girls sometimes, depending on our moods or how close we are to the couple getting married. But why leave your night to fate when you can preplan how the night will go?! Just consider me your fortuneteller. Tata for now, until next time. Miss Ohlala!
