• Make your “net-worth” your “net-work”

• Have your “elevator speech” ready

• No pets unless they are to be used for aide with disabilities

• Make sure you are dressed appropriately – wear business/professional attire

• Be cognizant of your personal hygiene

• Be professional in your attitude and dress – you are a walking commercial and/or advertisement for your business – first impressions are lasting impressions

• Ensure your business card has current contact information and includes a summary of business related services

• Make sure your contact information is professional – i.e., e-mail address, telephone greeting, etc.

• Give a firm handshake

• Be sure to say what makes your company unique – what makes you stand out

• Don’t monopolize time – use your time wisely – time is money and money is time

• Be prepared. If you have limited materials – i.e. business cards, brochure, product line sheets, etc. only target the Top Ten or Fabulous Five exhibitors at tradeshows

• Say thank you

• Follow-up with your leads – make appointments for introductions

• When leaving telephone messages, talk slow and be clear in your speech. Repeat your name and telephone number slow for clarity.

• Be on time for meetings with potential clients. Contact someone if you are running late.

• Don’t be a pest but be persistent• Remain professional and courteous
