On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I am pleased to welcome you to the 2016 Canadian Western Agribition.
Saskatchewan is a global leader in livestock, feed and forage; we are home to Canada’s second-largest beef-cattle herd, and a third of Canada’s bio-tech industry. With new innovations, strategic investments and responsible growth, we are well-positioned to meet the increasing global demand for food.
Located in our capital city of Regina, Canadian Western Agribition is the largest livestock show in Canada, and an international showcase for agriculture excellence.
Attracting more and more people from all over the world, Canadian Western Agribition blends agriculture, western heritage, and festive entertainment into an enjoyable atmosphere. Whether you are an exhibitor,
buyer or interested spectator, Canadian Western Agribition has something for everyone. In addition to the numerous livestock shows and sales, you will also experience live music, shopping, food, action-packed entertainment and pro rodeo performances.
Thank you to all the organizers, sponsors, exhibitors and volunteers for your ongoing support in making this show a success.
Brad Wall PREMIER OF SASKATCHEWAN
Welcome to the thousands of visitors and exhibitors from across Canada and around the world arriving in Regina for the 2016 Canadian Western Agribition.
Agribition is truly an iconic event in our city. We have proudly hosted Canada’s foremost agriculture show and marketplace since 1971, and it is a staple for people in and around the city. Agriculture has been a way of life for the people of this province since before its inception, and it is something Agribition celebrates each year with an exciting lineup of events and shows.
For the many visitors who have traveled to Regina, I encourage you to explore some of Regina’s wonderful attractions. I know you will enjoy visiting cultural treasures such as Wascana Park, the historic Casino Regina, the RCMP Heritage Centre, the Saskatchewan Science Centre and Kramer IMAX Theatre, to name just a few.
We also have many unique shops and fine restaurants, where you are sure to discover
the warm, friendly spirit of our city. On behalf of my fellow City Councillors and the citizens of Regina, I want to thank the many volunteers, staff and sponsors for their continued dedication and commitment to Canadian Western Agribition. Each of you plays an important role in representing our city and keeping our agricultural industry strong. We continue to invest in our facilities at Evraz Place to ensure that our contribution to this vital event is just as strong.
Thank you again for your support of the 2016 Canadian Western Agribition, and I hope you enjoy your visit to Regina.

In addition to the best livestock genetics, you will find a world-class trade show featuring over 400 exhibitors, education seminars, youth development, and of course tons of entertainment. The Food Pavilion showcases local products as well as bridging “from pasture to plate”. The Indigenous Pavilion and Indigenous Agriculture Summit offer insight into the culture and agricultural initiatives of
Indigenous people.Agribition is a festival of agriculture where
we are gathered in fellowship to host you and thousands of industry stakeholders, international guests, and others looking for an Agribition agriculture experience.
Agribition is truly unique and the product of many that contribute to the organization – the volunteers, staff, exhibitors, sponsors, guests and supporters. Thank you - you are Agribition and we couldn’t do it without you!

Welcome to Canadian Western agribition
6 7Canadian Western Agribition 2016 Official Show Guide visit us at: www.agribition.com Supplement to The Western Producer
There’s something exciting in the air, even more than usual this year. It’s a time of growth and change for the show, all for the better.
Our new home is taking shape and even though the International Trade Centre isn’t complete yet, it’s already inspiring plans and excitement for the years to come. In many ways, the new building represents what lies ahead for Agribition: modernization, excellence, innovation and a constantly improving guest and exhibitor experience.
Our $1 million commitment to the building proves that Agribition is in it for the long haul. We’re investing in a strategy that cements Agribition as a world-class event and Canada’s biggest beef cattle show. We are proud of that history and we are even more proud to be part of ensuring that legacy only grows in scope and importance.
This year, we welcome back Pro Rodeo to Agribition in a new four-night format that features the top athletes in all of the major rodeo events, including free admission on Wednesday thanks to our friends at The Mosaic Company. Our production team has been working for months on a rodeo experience that will be new and exciting for both the athletes and the fans in the stands. This is a rodeo year not to be missed!
We are also excited about the return of Full Contact Jousting, presented by Regina Nissan, on Tuesday night. And for the more daring among us, we are debuting a new event at Agribition: Running with the Bulls. On Saturday afternoon, anyone brave enough to sign up will compete for $1,500 and bragging rights as they outrun nine real rodeo bulls in front of the crowd in the Brandt Centre. you don’t have to be the fastest, but you probably
don’t want to be the slowest! During the day, there’s more trade show
exhibitors than ever before and our Food Pavilion is also growing with more samples, demonstrations and the Living Sky Winery Garden. Our Indigenous Pavilion has a full slate of interactive activities and the SaskTel Everyday Living Marketplace is packed to the rafters with shopping just in time for Christmas.
While all of this means there will be endless energy this year, there may not be anyone more excited than I am. There is something special about your first Agribition, whether as a guest, exhibitor or volunteer. In my case, it’s an unqualified privilege to be part of the team that welcomes you here. I aim to meet and personally thank as many of you as possible. Below, you’ll find my direct phone number and Twitter handle. If you have a story to share, a comment to make or just want to say hello, please do. Agribition is first and foremost about the people who share the passion for what we do.
Agribition’s potential has never been brighter, and together we will honour its legacy and build its future. Enjoy the show, I know I will.

Full Contact Jousting is back – this time as an evening entertainment event!
Horsemanship, strength and courage are on display during this six-knight tournament which will fill the Brandt Centre on Tuesday, November 22 at 7 PM.
Two knights and two horses will charge at each other on either side of a 180 foot fence and collide at speeds of 30 miles an hour. The goal is to strike the opponent with the 11 foot lance and unhorse the opposing knight.
A single point is awarded for striking the
opponent with the lance tip. Five points are awarded for shattering your lance on the hit. Ten points are given if your opponent is thrown from his horse.
After five rounds, the knight with the most points will move on to the next round until there is only one remaining! Cheer on your favourite knight and keep track of who wins by completing the tournament bracket provided. Tickets can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.ca or at the Brandt Centre box office.

The Indigenous Agriculture Summit celebrates its fourth year in 2016. The summit came into existence because the industry felt a need to share business ideas and best practices from Indigenous communities around the world.
“Considering Indigenous agriculture practices date back hundreds of years and many
are still in use around the globe, there is a lot of knowledge to be shared and applied to any farming operation,” says Courtney MacDougall, Committee Chair and Agribition Board Member.
The two-day conference features speakers from across North America sharing ideas and discussing opportunities associated with
Indigenous agriculture. Speakers will share real life success stories with emphasis on opportunities leveraging their local resources.
The conference will take place November 22 and 23 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Regina. To register for the conference visit: www.agribition.com/iaS

Grain Expo presented by young’s Equipment has been a part of Agribition since 2012. The two-day conference and trade show filled a need for a fall-based grain industry event. Following harvest, the timing of the event is ideal for producers looking for the latest information
on the market trends and agronomic practices. It is also an ideal time for the large equipment dealers to showcase their newest technologies and give producers a jump start to place orders for spring delivery.
The 2016 Grain Expo takes place November
22 and 23 at the Queensbury Convention Centre. The two-day conference features a trade show component targeting grain-specific products and services.

agribition appreciates your patience while the site is under construction. Make sure to smile at some memories in the old structures and get ready to make more memories in the new ones!
Upgrades and renovations are in full swing this year, and that means some changes to the way the 2016 show is set up. Agribition is still home to more than 1,500 head of haltered cattle and ready to accommodate over 130,000 guests!
As Agribition builds for the future, here’s what’s new:
inTernaTional Trade CenTre
The International Trade Centre (ITC) grand opening will be at Agribition 2017. It will feature 150,000 square feet of space for livestock, international business and a new show ring. This year, the partially completed ITC will be home to some purebred beef, sheep, goats, horses, a brand new wash rack, and a show and sale ring for the sheep and goats.
John deere Sale arena
The new sale ring at Agribition is the John Deere Sale Arena which was previously known as the Stock Exchange or Commercial Cattle barn. Thousands of dollars have been invested into upgrades to transform the space into a top-notch facility. Upgrades include brand new bleachers, significant lighting and heating, and cutting edge screens for video sales. The John Deere Sale Arena will also be the new home of the Watering Hole – a bar that will be fully operated during sale hours.
Way Finding
The ongoing construction means new walking routes from one side of the grounds to the other. Please check a map, our Facebook and Twitter accounts, or ask at our information booths for the best way to get where you want to go.
Building FareWellS
Some buildings are now gone that were at the last show, and this year will be the last for some familiar Agribition buildings as well. This year you’ll notice the buildings along Barn Road, including half of the Winter Fair, the Auditorium, and the old barns, are gone to make way for the ITC. This will be the final year of the remainder of the Winter Fair building as well as the Chevrolet GMC Stadium (Exhibition Stadium). The Pasqua and Harlton buildings will also be demolished to open up improved traffic and parking for the ITC.

Education has been a cornerstone at Agribition for 31 years. As the gap widens on consumers understanding of modern agriculture, Agribition plays an important role helping the industry tell their story.
Agribition offers an extensive Education program including the Family Ag Pavilion, milking demonstrations, and the thinkAG Career and
Education Expo as a means to educate others on agricultural practices and the food they eat.
The Education Program has taught thousands of school children the importance agriculture plays in the food industry.
displays and activities are located in the Family ag Pavilion in the Co-operators Centre and ag-ex Pavilion.
The Family Ag Pavilion sponsored by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and Ledcor is located in Arena 1 in the Co-operators Centre. The Pavilion offers a variety of interactive displays and activities encompassing many aspects of the agriculture industry.
The Pavilion is for everyone,” says Carla Schmitt, Education Team Leader and Agribition Board Member. “Regardless of your age or background this is the place to gain insight into agriculture.”
“As organizers, we want to continually offer a hands-on learning experience that people will remember. The Education Program at Agribition instills an expanded view of agriculture through fun and interactive activities for the whole family,” says Schmitt.
The Pavilion is anchored by the Agrium Seed
Survivor display. There are eight interactive stations featuring multimedia and virtual reality games, designed to teach youth about agriculture. youth who visit the display can plant a sunflower seed to take home, care for, and watch grow!
Other highlights include the beef display put on by Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association. Learn about the life of a beef animal from farm gate to plate. People enjoy the engaging atmosphere where they can discover all parts of the beef industry and see a live beef animal. Round out your visit at the Family Ag Pavilion seeing your other favourite animals including sheep, chickens, turkeys, honey bees, and more!
The Family ag Pavilion is open Monday – Saturday 10 aM to 6 PM
Another integral part of the Education Program at Agribition is the thinkAG Career and Education Expo. On November 21-24, 2016, students in grades 9 through 12 will explore the endless career and entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture at the Expo.
It will feature eight half-day workshops and seven interactive career exploration stations where students will learn about modern food production and discover the diversity of agriculture-related post-secondary options. For more information, please contact [email protected].
A family trip to Agribition isn’t complete without seeing a Milking Demonstration in the Ag-Ex Pavilion.
Visitors will get a firsthand view of where milk comes from and meet some of the great people who are a part of the dairy industry. Check daily schedules for milking times.

Being an agvocate is easier than you think and we can help.
Visit AgMoreThanEver.ca for resources and tips, and join our community of agvocates from across the country.
Speak from the heart
You live and love ag. Share that love with the world.
“ Having a conversation with a consumer is actually not as hard as you think. You’re basically telling them what you do.”
– Ravi Bathe, Poultry and Berry Producer
Go where the conversations are
Be an active voice and help shape people’s relationship with ag.
“ In order for consumers to support and understand us, they need to know us better. The best people to explain this are the people who live agriculture.”
– Natacha Lagarde, Maple Syrup Producer
Be open and honest
Transparency creates trust, so tell your story.
“ What do we have to hide? Nothing. I eat the food I produce. If we tell our story honestly, people will trust us.”
– Sam Bourgeois, Apple Producer
Don’t know where to start? Here are a few tips.Somebody should speak up.Somebody should set the record straight. Somebody should do something.
Well I’m somebody. You’re somebody. Everyone in ag is somebody.
So be somebody who does something.
Somebody who speaks from a place of experience, with passion and conviction.
Somebody who proudly takes part in food conversations big or small, so our voice is heard.
Somebody who tells our story, before someone else does.
Somebody who builds consumer trust so our industry can meet the demands of a growing, and very hungry, world.
Somebody who shapes people’s relationship with agriculture.
It can be done.
But it’s a big job that takes co-operation, patience and respect for every voice in the conversation. We need to build lines of communication, not draw lines in the sand.
Be somebody who helps everybody see Canadian agriculture as the vital, modern industry it is. Somebody who helps everybody see people in ag for what they are – neighbours, friends, and family who share the same concern everyone does: providing safe, healthy food to the people we love.
Our point of view is important. Our story is important. And people want to hear what we have to say. So be somebody who takes, and makes, every opportunity to share it.
I’m somebody. You’re somebody.
Together, we can tell everybody.
Be somebody who does something.
Be an agvocate.

auctioneer Competition
Winners Circle auctioneers Competition
Competitors will battle to become the champion of Canadian Western Agribition’s Winners Circle auctioneer Competition presented by ritchie Bros auctioneers in the final year of the Exhibition Stadium. Four finalists will have their job cut out for them trying to get top dollar for a mix of horse pull teams and charitable items.
It is common for auctioneers to travel around North America to compete for cash and prizes and show off their craft. The Winners Circle is a unique event because it features a blend of live animals being sold, combined with art work,
holiday packages, and beauty products. This adds to the complexity of the competition and brings out the showmanship in the competitors found only at Agribition. They are more than just fast talkers - it is art in motion.
The beneficiary of the proceeds at the charity auction is STARS air ambulance. STARS is a non-profit organization that provides specialized emergency medical care and transportation for critically ill and injured patients.
Since establishing operations in Saskatchewan in 2012, STARS has flown more than 3,300 missions to 500 communities across Saskatchewan from its bases in Regina and Saskatoon, with a current average of three missions per day.
About 50 per cent of the funds required to operate the service in Saskatchewan come from fundraisers and corporate, community and individual donors - that’s $10.5 million the charity needs to raise annually.
STARS is proud to serve the people of Saskatchewan and thanks you for your ongoing support.
If you can’t attend the Winners Circle, visit the STARS booth in the young’s Equipment display area in Co-operators Centre Arena 5.
Join us Monday, november 21 at 7 PM in the Chevrolet GMC Stadium for a fun, fast-paced evening of auction excitement!
