I can’t wait for our inaugural Disneyland® Paris – Val d’Europe Half-Marathon Weekend, organised in collaboration with runDisney - their first event outside the United States.

Among the planned festivities are races for young and young-at-heart runners alike, a Health and Fitness expo, and evening events for friends and families.

This is no regular race event. You’ll enjoy an extraordinary experience with a distinctly Disney feel, and many magical surprises along the way!

We’re excited to host many runners for this half-marathon, which is an exceptional chance to run through the heart of our Disney® parks and the surrounding Val d’Europe area before crossing the finishing line at Disney Village®.

On behalf of all our Cast Members, I’d like to thank you for joining us on this incredible adventure.

And so, on your mark... Get set... GO! ... and become the very first runners to enjoy 13 miles of smiles and fun through Disneyland® Paris!

Welcome to the first-ever Disneyland® Paris – Val d’Europe Half-Marathon, organised by Disneyland® Paris and runDisney in association with the communes of Val d’Europe.

This event adds a new dimension to the Val d’Europe half-marathon which already existed, and I would like to thank all the organisations and volunteers that have been with us on every step of this adventure over the past few years.

Val d’Europe and Disneyland® Paris are working hand-in-hand to build a new city on the doorstep of Paris. It was a crazy gamble, but it has paid off handsomely, resulting in an exceptional place to live that has grown from 3,500 to 35,000 residents in less than 30 years. Home to France’s largest TGV hub, Val d’Europe is proud to be an international point of entry to the greater Parisian region. It is an important economic and business center for eastern France, as well as being a bustling central point for the Seine et Marne region with its hospital, university complex, ICC headquarters, and other amenities and services.

And the show is not yet over! Val d’Europe, one of the youngest and most dynamic areas in France, will welcome 10,000 new residences over the next 20 years, and many other projects. These projects include constructing the Arena, convention centres, and a higher-education campus.

The course you’ll follow for this race will take you through part of this area. Seeing Val d’Europe during this race will, I hope, make you want to spend time at Villages Nature, play some golf, shop at the outlet stores in Vallée Village, or visit Louis Braille’s birthplace. Maybe one day you will even want to join us as we build the future of Val d’Europe!

The race staff would like to thank you in advance for considering the following etiquette tips as you enjoy the events.

• Please pay attention to pre-race instructions – both print and verbal. What you read and hear will not only help guide you through the course but will keep you safe.

• Wear your race bib on the front of your shirt and SMILE! Photographers will be taking pictures of you throughout the race.

• Please enter your correct start corral. This will ensure that you are running with people who have a similar pace.

• Run or walk no more than two abreast. Other runners will want to get by you. If you are walking in a group, please start in the last corral.

• If you want to run with a friend and you are in a different corral, the fastest of the two can move back to the slower corral.

• If you are stopping at a water or a food station, move all the way over to the table. Grab water and move away from the table so that others may get water, too.

• Move to the side if someone behind you says “Excuse Me” or “Coming Through”.

• Feel free to shout words of encouragement to other runners. You will hear words of encouragement in return.

• When you are approaching the finish line, you may see loved ones cheering you on. Please do not encourage anyone to join you in the finish line stretch. Your support team is very important, but please communicate that the race course and finish area is for registered participants and staff only.

• Enjoy the post-race refreshments, but remember that others will want to enjoy the goodies too.

• Celebrate! Thank your volunteers and have a great race!

Medical information

Medical stations are located along the course and will be marked with medical flags.

With prior training, you should be prepared for the physical demands of the half marathon.

Nevertheless, you may suffer cold or heat stress, or become dehydrated. The followingcan help you prepare for a safe and enjoyable race.

What to know about fluid intake• Drink enough water before the race so that your urine is clear to light straw incolor (this will vary per person).• During the race, drink when thirsty.• After the race, drink to satisfy your thirst

Tips for race day• Check your urine a ½ hour before the race or before you leave your home. If itis clear to light yellow (like light lemonade), you are well hydrated. If it is darkand concentrated (like iced tea), drink more fluids!

• DO NOT take any product with ephedra in it. Ephedra increases your risk of“heat illness.” It should not be used while training or on race day!

• Stay away from dehydrating agents such as cold medicines, anti-diarrheaproducts, sinus meds and caffeine which all can lead to dehydration; you maytake them again a few hours after finishing the race.

Pain relievers / supplements• Vitamin supplements (Vitamin A, B2 (riboflavin), C and E) and some foods (such as beets) can alter urine color so be wary of hydration status if taking these supplements.

Warning signs• Nausea and/or Vomiting – this can be a sign of dehydration, or over hydrationand electrolyte imbalance. Proceed directly to a medical aid station locatedthroughout the course.• Dizziness, confusion, loss of peripheral vision or general tingling are moreconcerning and greater precautions should be taken. Find a course representativeand ask for assistance immediately.• Chest Pain – stop all activity and ask another participant to assist with locatinga course representative or medical volunteer.

For your own safety• Complete the medical history on the back of your race bib.• Drink appropriately, guided by thirst • Know the symptoms of heat illness. Run responsibly and don’t be afraid to ask for help.• Help your fellow runners. If you see someone in distress, tell him or her what we have

told you. If they refuse to stop, report their race number to one of the volunteers along the route.

• Let your friends and family know your race number so they can find you if youare in a medical tent.

• Listen to the weather forecast and plan accordingly. Both heat-related injuriesand hyponatremia are life-threatening conditions.

• Skin in high friction areas (nipples, thighs, armpits, etc.) should be well lubricated with a non-water soluble lubricant (petroleum jelly).

• Make sure your shoes and clothes are appropriate for the event and environmental conditions

QuestionsThe Medical Team is here to help! On race day, there will be sports medicine professionals at the finish line tent and in the parking lot on bicycles. Remember, on the course we will have medical volunteers along the race course to help you along the way.
