The name for Iron Construction was derived by combining the first letter of the founders’ surnames, Claudia Folzman and Dave Edgar. Together they make the periodic symbol for Iron (Fe), one of the most impor-tant elements on Earth. Iron has personal significance for Claudia and Dave for its role in engineering and biology, their respective fields of study. Iron Construction was founded in 2001. The vision was to create a non-traditional commercial general contracting company where executive management was actively involved with projects, and more importantly, clients.

Since its inception, the annual Iron Construction Charity Golf Classic has raised over $350K for Operation: Care and Comfort (OCC). Since 2003, OCC has shipped nearly one million pounds of care packages for distribution to Marine, Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard personnel that are deployed in conflict regions. Additional philanthropic outreach includes annual participation in OCC’s Adopt a Military Family during the holiday season, Loaves and Fishes Thanksgiving Canned Food Collection, Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence Holiday Clothing and Toy Drive, Guadalupe River Clean Up Day, Share Your Holiday program, Walk for Life, Links for Life and reaching out to and supporting military families in need throughout the greater Bay Area.

Iron has excelled at projects that challenge most commercial contractors, specifically working in spaces that are occupied, projects that require value engineering to be successful regarding quality, constructability, and cost and projects with aggressive schedules.

David Edgar, President & CEO

A lifelong passion for building. This is what defines Iron Construction co-founder and

president Dave Edgar’s construction philosophy. With over three decades of experi-

ence working in all aspects of construction, from carpenter to superintendent, Dave’s

unprecedented knowledge made starting his own company an obvious choice. “I

wanted to start a company that focused on building, not bureaucracy. Working for

large construction companies can be rewarding, but sometimes you lose touch with

the customer. At Iron, I’m able to take personal ownership in all of our projects and

ensure the client’s needs are met to their satisfaction.”

Claudia Folzman, COO

Claudia Folzman brings two decades of construction experience. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the business, Claudia also oversees the manage-ment of business development and supervises the project management and project engineering staff.

Working on nearly all aspects of construction project management has pro-vided Claudia with a unique breadth of experience: “Our ability to see projects from a broad perspective helps us to understand and solve problems the client

Hills Library and Police Station, but his work in the bio-life science and controlled spaces domain is where his

expertise really shines. Dave has managed many projects for medical research and assembly facilities for clients

ranging from Sun Microsystems to Genentech. It is this highly specialized knowledge that sets Dave apart from his

peers and makes him one of the foremost bio-life science facilities experts in the country.

Dave has been featured as an industry thought leader by local and regional media including the Silicon Valley

Business Journal and Empire Broadcasting. Dave is a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engi-

neers and enjoys fishing and golf in his spare time.
