About AIESEC

Publication Date : 8th November 2013Fourth Edition

Local Chapter President October was a rather hectic month for me as LCP. This is for various reasons. First, the Election Conference which took place at the end of September and secondly the just concluded Pioneers Congress. The election Conference was a huge success and this is mainly because of the lovely team of individuals who worked tirelessly to organize the entire conference:

Sylvia Njoki- Organizing Committee President Stephanie Munyoki- OCVP Sites and Logistics Diane Nthurima- OCVP Corporate Relations Charles Sofali- OCVP Finance Sandra Kembabazi- OCVP CommunicationsThis dynamic team prepared an amazing conference for us all, that was in conjunction with JKUAT. The election process was successful and we were lucky to have the honour of having a super alumnus, Pheodor brown as the Chair of the conference. Immediately after the conference we had to start preparing for the 7th East African Pioneers Congress. We sent 37 delegates to the conference, 2 Congress Committee members and 1 Congress Committee teamster. This was a great milestone for AIESEC in USIU that I am very proud of.

As the EB 2013 term comes to an end, I can say that I am very proud of my team. There were some rough patches on the way, we had some good times and some not so good times. All in all, it was our little failures that led to our successes, having learnt to fall down, dust ourselves and get back up. As we embark on our transition journeys, we are trying our best to groom our successors with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge for an amazing 2014. With only a month before my very able successor Santana Wangui takes office, the final touches are underway. I have a lot of hope in the future of my team, this experience should be one of the most insightful things they have gone through, just like myself. I have a lot of hope for AIESEC in USIU and our members, they are an amazing lot of young individuals on a journey to save the world and make it more habitable. I have a lot of hope for AIESEC as an organization, our values and the vision that we live by every day. AIESEC is making a huge difference in the world, in very little ways, that is the most fulfilling thing about this organization, knowing that someone somewhere can breathe easier because of you and I. Until next month, screw it, let’s do it!

Keziah Wamuhu,Local Chapter President.

TALENT MANAGEMENT

Recruitment DriveThe TM team organized for recruitment which ran from 30th September to 10th October. During that time, the team was gathering information on how many members were needed in the LC; Talent planning, and an information desk was set up for Talent promotion. We recruited 120 potential members, and they were called for an information session on Friday 11th October 2013.At the end of the recruitment process, we recruited 29 new members. For their induction, some paid for and attended the 7th East African Pioneers Congress. The TM team is still planning for another weekend date to induct all newies.

Myaiesec.net TrainingIn conjunction with the IM team, we organized to hold myaiesec.net training during MSS on the 18th of October 2013. The MSS was graced by Sophie ‘Shiznit’ Njenga; MCVP Expansions and Specialized Units and Wanjiru ‘Macwin’ Maina-MCVP Organizational Development. The new members were introduced to myaiesec.net, while their roles were added on the system.

This raised the LC’s TMP and TLP standing in AIESEC Kenya, as reflected on the system. Older members were also taken through how to use myaiesec.net, i.e. by adding teams, looking for files on the system and more. Members were also introduced to aiesec.org.

7th East African Pioneer’s CongressThe TM team pipelined 37 members to attend the 7th East African Pioneers Congress. The group contained both new and older members, and it was a great learning experience. By the end of the conference, during the Gala Dinner, AIESEC USIU was awarded with a certificate for best LC roll call. The congress brought together youth from Kenya and four other East African countries namely Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda. We networked with members from these various AIESEC entities and fostered some partnerships while making strategies that will help us improve in TMP and TLP. It was held from 30th October to 3rd November 2013.

INCOMING EXCHANGE PORTFOLIO

Earlier on in the year the Member Committee came up with a financial model forthe iGCDP portfolio to make it financially sustainable to also ensure quality andimpactful experiences are made on our Exchange Participants. Therefore we as theIGCDP portfolio have set up meetings with our TN takers to explain to them how themodel works and how it benefits all of us if we are to run this program. Most TNtakers bought the idea and this will enable us run exchange better and efficiently. We also had a Japanese intern who was volunteering at Marurui United YouthOrganization(MUYOG) and had a wonderful experience and has even recommended theorganization to many more potential EPs who are already sending in their applications. The IGCDP portfolio is also working on getting more health organizations on boardsuch that we are also able to widen our Exchange Participant pool.At the moment we are also matching interns to our TNs and most of them arrive laternext month.

This has been a good year for AIESEC USIU but we still have to do more to achieve our maximum potential.

Outgoing Exchange

So far, with regards to the Outgoing Exchange Portfolio, the team has acquired new team members who are currently undergoing training of the OGX processes. With EP’s, the ones who were raised during the last quarter are getting matched and realized so as to ensure that there are no backlog EP’s by the time the year ends.Succession planning is also taking place as the potential VPOGX successor is getting trained and integrated into the VP role so that she gets to understand the role. The project that is currently being run is the IRC project inclusive of other non-IRC partner countries like Sri Lanka.

Recruitment was done two weeks ago and the EP’s are getting prepared for Reviews by being given information sessions at different levels. The Portfolio is also solely working on GCDP since GIP EP’s can only be people who have participated in the Global Community Development Programme so as to satisfy the Global Competency Model of AIESEC International.Reviews are set to be in the next 2 weeks so that we can start the Raising and Matching process, so that Realization can take place in December.

Connie Nehundu, Vice President Outgoing Exchange.

Recruitment driveRecruitment for new members and exchange participants happened on 7th to 10th October 2013 where we were able to help the talent management team by creating awareness of our recruitment. This was possible through creation of a poster which was able get more and more people know about AIESEC recruitment. We were able to reach more than 60 people and the feedback about how they got to know about the recruitment was through the poster.Through the recruitment we the Communications & IM team were able to get the following members:-1. Fred Marita2. Shalom Mucai3. Ian Muna4. Muzna Yusuf5. Timothy Renalda6. Elizabeth Wambui

I advice each of the above to make an initiative to learn more and do more beyond their job description because in AIESEC it is up to you.

Communication & IM [email protected] trainingTraining on the aiesec.net platform was held on the 18th of October during MSS , a week after our recruitments. We were able to train the members on the usage of the platform and how to get acquainted to it. The Lab 4 was packed to the fill with about 50 members attending. [email protected] is a very important tool for the organization and each and every member should be active in it.Myaiesec.net provides:-1. Access to opportunities2. Tools for realization of exchange3. Access to knowledge.

Aiesec.orgAiesec.org has revolutionalized by having new:1. Look & feel- which aims to present AIESEC as a youth network.2. Stakeholder customization 3. Newsroom- Global updates, entity-sourced content and filtered viewing.4. Communicating the why-how-what of AIESEC5. Call-to-actionsLastly i would like to thank my team for showing interests in expounding their skills and learning how to use Adobe InDesign and hence making this month’s edition of the newsletter.
