CONFIRMATION AND YOUTHMINISTRY KICK-OFF EVENT5PM—7PM SUNDAY IN SCHOOLYARD. ALL HIGH SCHOOLTEENS ARE INVITED (SEE ARTI-VLE INSIDE)
CHURCH LOCATION:1001 N. Brand BlvdMAILING ADDRESS:
As you have already heard many times in the pulpit, it’s a jubilee year in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. It’s because we are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the first California mission, Mission San Gabriel.
Archbishop Gomez has called for a yearlong cel-ebration of this jubilee and has marked it as aninvitation “to make a new start” to go forward in mission as disciples of Christ. He calls the cler-gy, ecclesial workers, and lay leaders to offer prayer and spiritual renewal opportunities to the faithful, especially in these challenging times of the global pandemic.
Twenty-two parishes around the archdiocese have been designated special jubilee year pil-grimage sites, including Holy Family Church here in Glendale. Those who enter one of the pil-grimage sites are invited to spend time there at least to pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glo-ry Be with the intention of uniting themselves with the missionary spirit of Our Lady of Guada-lupe, Star of the New Evangelization, and St. Ju-nipero Serra, founder of Mission San Gabriel Ar-cangel.
With the approval of the Holy See, a plenary in-dulgence, which removes the temporal punish-ment due to sins already forgiven, is granted to those who enter the holy door of any of these pil-grimage sites to pray with the condition that they have confessed their sins and have received Holy Communion.
Additionally, the archbishop encourages us to do three simple missionary practices 2x2: Gospel reflection, prayer, and acts of charity and justice. The jubilee website, ww.forwardinmission.com , outlines clearly these three missionary practices 2x2. Log in to the website to be familiar with these practices.
The website states, “Reflecting together on the life and words of Jesus in the Gospels awaken faith and helps us share Him with others. Pray-ing together aloud open hearts to Jesus. Doing acts of charity and justice together with inten-tionality shows the love and mercy of Jesus. En-gaging in these missionary practices will form hearts for mission and increase confidence in proclaiming the Gospel.”
Here at Incarnation Church, we initiated these practices in the past months through the faith sharing of some of our parishioners after Com-munion, praying 2x2 before Mass and at the time of the General Intercession, and participation in the walk and prayer for unity and peace last summer.
I wish we exercise these missionary 2X2 practices in our parish school, religious education pro-grams, homes, and among our friends. Remem-ber that to be an “amazing parish,” we have to promote a culture of prayer, discipleship, and teamwork.
St. Junipero Serra used to say, “Siempre adelante, nunca atrás”--Always forward, never backward. Let’s live this purpose-driven and missionary spirit of St. Junipero Serra in our parish during this jubilee year and beyond!
Your loving pastor,
Fr. Rodel “Odey” Balagtas

Developing a Relationship in UgandaWe have a great opportunity to develop a shared relationship with a parish in Uganda in Africa. The parish of Our Lady of Presenta-tion Ndibata Parish, in the Diocese of Kiyinda Mityana, has re-cently opened their school, St. Mary’s. The community built this school from the ground up. The school has been open for only 2 1/2 years and they cannot keep up with the growing enrollment. What a great problem to have. They currently have 453 students. Their goal is to provide an all round education for their children, caring for their wellbeing in all aspects of life. St. Mary’s is a school that is giving a chance to every child, creating and keeping those dreams alive. They are in need of classrooms and desks and all related items. They are currently building a 4-classroom build-ing to avoid having to teach students outside. We will share more information in the coming weeks but here are a few pictures. The priest assigned there is Fr. Joachim , who is a former student of Fr. Rodel. Our hope is not just to help financially, but also to develop relationships between our school and our religious education pro-grams. What a great opportunity to share our faith and our gifts!
