Come and join in song together

Sing with might and main

Our beloved Butler High School

Sounds her praise again,

Here’s to her whose name we’ll

Ever cherish in our song.

Honor, love, and true devotion

To her belong.

This election day, Butler High School students could be checking your voter registration or assisting you at the voter machines. Nearly 45 Butler High School students will serve as poll workers through the Youth at the Booth program. Youth at the Booth gives high school seniors a chance to experience the democratic process first-hand by placing high school seniors as poll workers.

This is Butler High School’s seventh year participating. Participants must be 17 or older, meaning some poll workers will not even be old enough to vote!

TitleIParentLiteracyNightprovidesparentswithstrategiestohelpstrengthenstudents’readingskills

More than 100 parents and Title I students from Demmitt Elementary, Helke Elementary, and St. Christopher attended the district’s Title I Parent Literacy Night on October 24. The meeting provided parents with information about the Title I program, why their children are part of the program, and what they can do at home to help strengthen their children’s reading skills.Camping was the theme of the evening, starting with a dinner of hot dogs and chips and a reading of the eBook “A Camping Spree With Mr. MaGee.”

Parents and students then visited five different stations where the Title I teachers explained resources used in the Title classes and shared different reading/skill based activities for students and parents to practice at home. Set around tents and a “fishing pond,” the five different stations involved creating a retelling story cube with Mrs. Nicholas, fishing for rhyming words with Mrs. Kellar, building words using individual letters with Mrs. Kane, modeling good reading techniques with Mrs. Vicars, and explaining the computer-based programs Razz-Kids and Earobics with Mrs. McPeck.

It’sR’OctoberatDemmitt!

Last week Demmitt Elementary students participated in R’October... because ART rocks in October! R’October is an Art Spirit Week, and students and staff were encouraged to dress up according to different art-based themes.
