Text to God

How often do I wake up tired? Sometimes I can’t even find a reasonfor it. When my life feels increasingly out of control, all I need to dois cry out to God. Feelings pass but the vast amount of love God hasfor me, for us, does not change. Paul reminds me of that tangiblething that will bring me back to where I need to be, and that is myprayers to God. Remember, today is a good day to have a good dayin the arms of our God! And all the people said: AMEN!

Service and EvangelismAs we fulfill our vow of Service and Evangelism, either individuallyor corporately in our chapters, we might find we are doing some ofthe same things. So why send in an article about your project toCross+Links if you’ve already seen a piece about something similar?

Though our service projects may look the same in general, thespecifics are bound to be different. The devil is in the details, theadage goes. But I think we can also see the Heavenly. Here are someexamples.

In the August issue, Susan Fischer, a member of St. Mary Magdalene chapter in LakewoodRanch, Florida, shared with us how she evangelizes and spreads the Good News throughwriting Christian novels. As an introvert, it is hard for her to speak about the Kingdom, but shecan write about it! In response, Bickie Raspilair of Epiphany Chapter in Guntersville, Alabama, wrote this:

Page 4: October 2019 Issue 105 - cdn.ymaws.com

"My form of writing is letters. Since the death of my 19-year-old son in an auto accident in1971, I have written letters to mothers whose children have also died in auto accidents. I tellof my healing as led by the Holy Spirit. I have also written letters of encouragement, welcoming and congratulations as directed by the Holy Spirit." In the March issue of Cross+Links, Karen Reynolds of Bishop’s Chapter in Waco, Texas, toldus about her chapter’s service:"We provide purses full of all things wonderful for the graduates at the Christian Women’s JobCorps. These women have committed to turn their lives around for the better and get theirG.E.D. or job training to improve their lives and the lives of those whom they love. We givethem the purses upon graduation from the program. Examples of items in the purses include(but are not limited to): Spiritual Books, cards and notes of encouragement, hygiene products, scarves, etc. . ." In August, Bonnie Kieffer wrote to us about a similar service project:"The St. Margaret of Antioch Chapter of Province II, New York Diocese, has continued their'Handbag Mission" for the second year. The Daughters asked for donations of totes andhandbags, then filled them with personal care items, notepads, pens, combs and brushes, andother items. They are then delivered to Mary Ellison at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church inHighland, New York to be distributed to women who are looking for jobs or have jobinterviews." Please share with us your stories of Service and Evangelism, and be sure to include lots ofdetails. Who knows? You might inspire another Daughter or chapter to do likewise. Province IV Junior Daughters RetreatOn a wonderful summer evening in June, thirty-three JuniorDaughters, their Chapter Junior Directresses, and the Province IVJunior Daughters Chair boarded a bus from the DiocesanAssembly of Southeast Florida bound for Kanuga Retreat Center inHendersonville, North Carolina. The group left Florida onThursday evening and arrived at Kanuga on Friday morning just intime for a little rest before starting on a Scavenger Prayer Hunt. The Prayer Hunt allowed the Junior Daughters the opportunity topray for all the grounds and buildings which would be used for theretreat activities. The findings in this hunt were hidden, writtenprayers that were then prayed for that area. This made prayer acompetitive and fun activity by rewarding the first team that

completed the task. The evening was another time for the Junior Daughters to shine, as theyparticipated in the opening service as greeters, ushers, readers, and acolytes.

Saturday was a full day of fun activities including gifts, prizes, workshops, and rock paintingwhich was led by Dr. Karen Clark, Diocesan Assembly President of Central Florida. TheJunior Daughters also had a chance to interact with Province IV President, Dr. Jane Searcy, who brought them gifts. Scheduled outdoor time was changed by a little rain, but the girlscontinued to have fun in the most beautiful sing-along with our favorite musician, Ms. BrendaAlbinger. Finally, the day ended with an ice-cream social and a raffle, then on to a campfirewith smores. At nine o’clock on Saturday evening, it was time to say goodbye, as the JuniorDaughters headed back on their bus to Southeast Florida.

The Junior Daughters had an opportunity to meet the National Junior Daughters Chair, Mrs.Tammy Boyd, who spent time with them throughout their activities. There was one JuniorDaughter from the Diocesan Assembly of Atlanta who also joined the group. The candle-lightfarewell from those left behind is always a beautiful yet moving scene with a final blessingfrom our favorite Bishop, the Rt. Rev. William Skilton; followed by singing and waving as theysent us on our way in peace and love.

We are looking forward to an exciting time again next summer and planning to have manymore Junior Daughters from around the Province to join us. Therefore, Diocesan AssemblyChairs throughout Province lV, are asked to start planning for next summer at Kanuga.

Grant that your Church, being bound together in love andobedience to you, may be united in one body by the one Spirit, that the world may believe in him whom you have sent, yourSon Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in

the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
