On October 4, 2018, WorkSource staff held an annual Workforce Development Board and Local Elected Officials (LEO) Board Training. Topics included an overview of the Workforce Innova on and Opportunity Act (WIOA), the roles of the Board, LEO Board, and the Fiscal Agent. Other topics of interest discussed included the High Demand Career Ini a ve, Appren ceships, and On‐The‐Job Training.
The Career Coaches par cipated in the Greater Hall Chamber of Com‐merce’s Job Fair on October 13th. With over 65 businesses represented, it was a great event for job seekers in the region. Congrats to the Chamber on such a successful event and to all WorkSource staff for their par cipa on in the event.
On October 16, 2018, the City of Helen hosted the Georgia Municipal Associa on (GMA) District 2 Fall Policy Forum at City Hall. It was a great opportunity to network, learn about successful municipal ini a ves throughout the district, and receive updates on GMA’s legisla ve priori es, services, and training programs.
Congratula ons to the ci es of Hiawassee and Toccoa who recently became PlanFirst communi es as recognized by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs! PlanFirst is DCA’s program to recognize and reward commu‐ni es that clearly demonstrate an established pa ern of successfully implemen ng their Local Comprehensive Plan. The ci es of Lula and Gainesville were also recently re‐designated. Congratula ons! Applica ons are due May 15th annually. On October 24th, the Federal Co‐Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC), Tim Thomas visited Georgia for the first me since his appointment by President Trump. We were fortunate that he was able to spend a day in the Georgia Mountains Region. We were able to showcase several ARC funded projects in both Hartwell and Lavonia! A huge thank you to Annaka Woodruff, ARC Program Manager for arranging the mee ng, and to the ci es of Hartwell and Lavonia for their hospitality.
I would like to welcome Mr. Juston Kearby who has recently joined the GMRC Team. Juston is the new Intake Assistant for the Youth Department of WorkSource. We are excited to have Juston on our Team and look for‐ward to all the great work he will bring to the department.

GMRC has entered into contract with Towns County to update tax parcels for 2017 and 2018.
Orthophotogaphy deliverables have started coming in for the 2018 GMRC Aerial Photography Project. The City of Conyers, Athens‐Clarke Coun es, Towns County, and Barrow County are among the first received.
LiDAR data for the FY19 USGS 3DEP Grant will be acquired star ng December 2018. The 67 coun es shaded in yellow on the map below will be flown to USGS QL2 specifica ons and be publi‐cally available.
The City of Hiawassee has entered into contract with GMRC to update their sewer infrastructure mapping.
Faith Bryan and Brandon Carlock a ended the ESRI ArcPro workshop that was held on October 1st at the Georgia Geo‐spa al Conference held in Athens.
Information Services Economic Development
A number of communi es have recently completed their comprehensive plan updates. Plans for Banks County and Maysville have been approved by the state and are going through the local adop on process. Plans for Dawsonville, Homer, and a joint plan for Habersham County and the municipali es of Alto, Baldwin, Clarkesville, Demorest, and Mt. Airy should have their reviews completed in me for adop ons in early Novem‐ber. (See map, right)
Several Developments of Regional Impact (DRIs) are working their way through Forsyth and Hall Coun es. The mixed use Gateway Village (DRI #2863) features 519 acres of Industrial, Office, and Commercial uses as well as a waste water treatment facility just north of Gainesville. In the City of Cumming, there are three projects under review: The Mashburn Tract (#2751) with 63 acres of residen al and commercial use, The Villages at Brooks Farm (#2848) with 152 acres of residen al and commercial use, and the Westshore Development (#2876) featuring residences, a hotel and about 250,000 SF of office and commercial uses. The Career Coaches par cipated in a job fair sponsored by Goodwill Career Center located in Dawsonville. Five people took advantage of the resources aboard the units.
Ten people took advantage of the Career Coach resources while it was parked at the library in Rabun County. This is the largest number of visits to date while parked at the library!
In a con nua on with our community partners, a resume training session was held at the Salva on Army of Hall County. Resume session were also conducted for students of Stephens County Mountain Educa on Charter High and Forsyth County Mountain Educa on Center – Hill Site. Collec vely, 35 students par cipated.
The Career Coach par cipated in the Greater Hall Chamber Job Fair held at the Gainesville Civic Center on Saturday, October 13th, 2018.

Career Coach Monthly Totals for September
Youth Program
For the month of October, the WorkSource Youth Program saw one forkli cer fica on and five GED comple ons.
Staff held the Gainesville High School Workshop and hosted 60 high school seniors. The workshop offered resume services and career assessments, along with Dress for Success and Paying for College informa on sessions.
Staff also assisted Banks County High School with mock interviews and a reality store.
Around The Region "Demorest Women's Club unveils Na onal Register for Historic Places plaque for historic building"
The GMRC Planning Department conducted a feasibility study for the historic Demorest Woman's Club in 2015 to determine future uses and building rehabilita on requirements for the City and Women's Club. The DWC was listed on the Na onal Register of Historic Places in 2008. The Demorest Women’s Club held a plaque unveiling Tuesday, September 25, as the club’s property is on the Na onal Register of Historic Places. The clubhouse was built in 1901, and the club has been part of this register since 2008. Funds for the plaque were provided by Demorest city councilman Bruce Harkness.
