Hello church!
We have so much to be thankful to God and to celebrate as I
write this article!
Our first Katie Luther Brew Ha Ha and Oktoberfest was a
wonderful success!!
People were already talking about NEXT YEAR as we were
finishing up plans for this year!
People were excited to share this event with their friends and
neighbors and invited them along for the fun!
Several teams worked collaboratively to make the event a success:
council, hospitality, worship and music, property, youth, staff and
others who stepped up with expertise and gifts.
Obtained ABC banquet license, clarified health department food
service requirements and secured liability insurance clearing the way
to offer this event to the general public.
We raised enough money to send TWO young people to the
gathering in Houston through the items donated to the silent auction
and mum sale.
We are able to fund our part of the upcoming area 500th Reformation
Service on October 29.
Most importantly, we praised God AND had a good time being
together and enjoying the fellowship.
October is also the month – other things going on include
We begin our annual stewardship of life focus. Stewardship isn’t
JUST about money – it’s about all the gifts that God has given us –
time, talent as well treasure. Eric Carlson boldly stepped forward to
head this up. We will be focusing on the mission and ministry of
RLC.
Pet Blessing: Using a Thrivent Action Grant, Eileen Clauson is
heading up the effort for the Pet Blessing on October 8. We will
partner with our friends across the street at Church of the Messiah.
The Faith In Action Team met on Thursday, September 14th. The first
item discussed was the super-fine success of the annual school supply
collection for the Minnick Schools of Lutheran Family Services and
Chancellor Elementary School. Thank you very much Resurrection
Family!! All supplies have been delivered to the schools and there are now students who will
have a much more successful learning experience because of this vital outreach.
Ellen Bushman and myself were both “off of our feed” this summer as the old country
expression goes. We both forgot about the snacks and playground balls for the Minnick
Schools. Snacks are needed after the students take their long rides to school and the
playground balls are needed to get many Minnick School students engaged in school activities.
We will include these items on the Christmas Angel Tree. Faith In Action is already wrapping
cartons to hold the non-perishable food items. More information will be in the November
Newsletter.
As for now, Faith In Action will focus on the annual Hope House collection of needs. Watch the
Narthex Baobob Tree for the leaves of items needed by the Hope House clients. Colleen Butler
and Joy Bushman will be chairing this project. Even while Joy is recovering from surgery, she
will be helping Colleen as Co-chair.
Please keep helping with the needs of Brisben, Fifth Saturday Meals, and Christ Luthern Pantry.
By the end of the year, Dee Tillman would like to step down as co-chair of the Brisben Homeless
Shelter Meals. Please think and pray about this position. The Holy Spirit is always working at
Resurrection and moves us into these much needed projects.
Fall Blessings,

Fall Hope House Collection
It’s that time once again for us to help the residents of
Hope House by providing necessary daily needs. Please
take a leaf or two off the Baobob Tree in the narthex
and purchase the item(s) noted on the leaf. Bring the
item(s) back to church and place them around the tree.
We will be collecting through Sunday, November 1st.
Thank you for your continued support for this ministry.
If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Butler

Music News
Hello to all my RLC friends and family, September was filled with excitement and enthusiasm in these past few weeks. What an amazing event we had this past weekend with our Oktoberfest as we kicked off our fall season with a fantastic evening of fellowship. There was lots of energy flowing through the fellowship hall that night, especially with a "hymn sing-along" at full volume! After a big weekend of fun with that event (including our silent auction, our mum sale, and much more) we now look towards our October opportunities for more and more worship time together, also to include gathering for our traditional Night of Broadway Music October 15th at 6:00pm, our combined service with other Lutheran churches at University of Mary Washington's Dodd auditorium to celebrate the 500 anniversary, and we begin our Christmas music rehearsals. You will hear more about all of these events during this month. Our choirs are working on selections from Handel's Messiah to share with you over the Advent and Christmas season. I'm very excited about preparing this for our Advent season and invite all of you to come join us if you so desire. We rehearse on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM. As many of you know, the choir room is being moved to the second floor and will be under renovation over the next month. This will allow us a larger space to rehearse and the room to grow, how exciting!! Bless all of you and many prayers for a safe and joyful Fall season. Invite your friends to come and see all of these amazing ways to spread the love of God in worship and in all of these opportunities. Happy Fall to all of you! Love, Amy
