Fall Rally 2014

As always, Fall Rally this year was held at Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, New Jersey. Fall Rally is typically the largest NJ Key Club event of the year; thousands of members across the state come together for service, information, and fun. The theme was animation: it was to time to get “animated” for service! The day, Sunday, October 12, started out with important meetings and updates, along with discussion of Key Club’s goals and future projects. After that, it was an afternoon filled with themed rides and rollercoasters at Six Flags. We hope to see you there next year as well!

’s40th Anniversary At Par Hills!

This year, the Parsippany Hills Key Club is celebrating a huge milestone- its 40th anniversary! It’s been 40 years since Key Club was first born in our school, and we’re proud to say that we have been committed to community service and leadership for 40 years since October 14, 1974. Last school year, we held a t-shirt design contest for the anniversary; Eva Cavanaugh’s winning design is shown below. Most of the club members that went to Fall Rally this year wore the shirt, it was great to see Parsippany Hills proudly representing their Key Club dedication.

Our club had its own celebration of the event with snacks and drinks for everyone after our general meeting that Tuesday. Overall, we hope to continue our dedication to service within our school and community for many years ahead!

2014 Halloween at the Hills

Our Key Club participated in the 2014 PHHS Halloween celebration! The event required several volunteers and boxes of candy; members stayed after on the Tuesday and Wednesday before Halloween at the Hills to make decorations for the room and supplies for the activities.

The theme was Hollywood: members came dressed in gowns and suits and greeted the ‘stars,’ while others wore all black and posed as the paparazzi and press. The stars were stopped for pictures and questions as they walked along the red carpet: a pathway lined with red streamers and a Key Club Walk of Fame. This led to the games, where participants could bowl for Oscars, knock down the villains, and fish for candy. Spotlights focused on a Hollywood sign was the background to our room. As usual, the Key Club room was kid-friendly but still lots of fun. We heard great feedback from parents, and we thank everyone who helped make our room a success!

Halloween for UNICEF

Key Club partnered with Unicef to celebrate Halloween in a sweet way: our chapter was given donation boxes for each member during trick-or-treating. Unicef is a program committed to helping underprivileged children; they promote education and child rights and do their best to eliminate discrimination, violence, and poverty. Our chapter typically raises about $200 for this fundraiser.

This year, Key Clubbers Ananya, Sara, Shreya, Tara, Vaishnavi and Vanessa collectively raised over $100 for this organization; many other members did the same. Most families were excited to help such a great fundraiser. Asking for something as simple as spare change can benefit not only your life, but also another child’s.
