The official start of Phuket’s high season is now only a month away, and as Airports of Thailand officially reported that Phuket International Airport saw a record breaking 1 million passengers pass through in the month of August you have to wonder what kind of figures are going to pass come through come the busiest months if December and January, and whether the amounts are going to put too much pressure on the already over strained facility.
October figures should give a little insight into what to expect come the busy months, as for 9 days of October, 5th until 13th, Phuket sees its annual Vegetarian Festival, an event which year on year see growing amounts of visitors. If a so called low season month such as August can see 1 million passengers pass through the airport, you can be certain that October and the following months will also see record breaking figures.

AMULETS MARKET - This can be found down a tiny alley off Rassada Road in Phuket Town, not far from the Fountain Circle and adjacent to the Krung Thai Bank. This is where religious amulets, charms, and talismans are sold. Here you can see faithful believer’s squatting down with their magnifying glasses to study tiny images of the Buddha. It is great fun to see and makes an excelling pit stop while walking around the old town.
SOI ROMANEE - This road is full of colorful renovated buildings, and it was once a red light district for the Chinese laborers who came to work in the tin mines. Some shophouses have been turned into chic bars, while some continue to be what they were originally such as old style barbers. Today, all the electric and phone cables have been put underground and it is one of the most popular location for romantic pre-wedding photo shoots.
THAI HUA MUSEUM - This is also on Krabi Road and is less than five minutes walk from Baan Chinpracha. At first it was a Chinese-language school but it has since been renovated and is now a museum which exhibits various aspects of Phuket’s history. Highlights include a short film about the Phuket-China connection which has English subtitles. Opening Hours are 09:00 – 17:00 daily and admission is 200 Baht
Staying in a hotel room may become a little boring for some, so how about lying on the deck of a boat, sailing to visit different locations, whilst feeling the heat of the sun and the sea breeze blowing on your skin, and anchoring up at night and staring at the star filled sky above?
IIt’s an experience in which, depending on your mood, you can
choose where you want to be and how you wish to spend your
time. If you want peace and quiet, you can visit one of the many
deserted beaches. If you are in more of a partying mood, you can
watch the sunset from a seafood restaurant and then attend a beach party
or dance till sunrise in a nightclub.
Bareboat Yacht Charter also known as independent charters. This
is an option which allows experienced sailors to sail where and when they
please. They provide the utmost freedom and privacy. Sailing licenses are not
mandatory for most charter companies, however the charterer is required
to have a minimum of three years sailing experience as a skipper and there
will also has to be a required refundable security deposit or damage waiver
option. One or two days practice with a local skipper for familiarization is also
possible if needed.
Sailing yachts that available for bareboat come in different types and sizes.
You can find anything from 30 foot single hulls up to 50ft catamarans which
can accommodate 10-12 crew members. Motor yachts are not yet allowed for
bareboat charters. Most bareboats are fully equipped and come with a dinghy
and outboard engine. At the start of your yacht charter there will be full
briefing about the boat and the sailing area.
Sailing schools and regattas - you have zero knowledge about
sailing there are companies that offer sailing courses. They are short, fun
courses that teach you the basics of sailing, and you will be surprised how
capable you are of guiding a small yacht which could change your holiday
forever. Advance courses including race training are also available.
Where and when to catch the wind?Phuket lies 8 degrees north of the equator and experiences mild tropical
weather. The winds generally blow from the northeast in the dry season
months, which are from November until April. During this time it is possible
to sail in all parts of the area, including the West coast of Thailand and the
famous Surin & Similan Islands, known for their great diving locations! The
days are generally blue skies in the day and clear starry skies at night.
March and April can be very sunny, with absolutely no rain and rather light
breezes; so it is ideal for sailors who like flat seas.
BOATING IN PHUKET (PART I: BAREBOAT SAILING HOLIDAY)
In the “Green season”, which falls from May to October, the wind turns and comes generally
from the south west direction. Fortunately being blessed with mild weather Phuket does not experi-
ence cyclones or typhoons and the weather in this season is often pleasant with some rainfall.
Although the Andaman Sea coast is unsuitable for sailing during this time, Phang Nga Bay, off
Phuket’s East Coast, provides a sheltered, calm and enchanting place to cruise. With its numerous
islands, all unique in formation, this makes a great cruising area by any one’s standards. This is
one reason most boats are based on the west coast of Phuket offering possibilities to cruise all
Millions of people all around the world use social networks to connect with their friends, meet new people, share images and videos, play games and a whole lot more. Unfortunately, there are a lot of privacy issues with the big social networks. People are becoming increasingly worried about their personal data that they voluntarily provide to social networks like Facebook and Twitter. If you want to use a social network that allows you to stay anonymous, you should take a look at a new site called Whisper.
What is Whisper?Whisper is a new social network that allows us to stay anonymous whilst posting
our experiences, thoughts, and feelings. It’s a bit different from other social networks
because you don’t share your personal information. You can share all your darkest
secrets and never be worried that somebody will find out it’s you!
It works a bit differently from the popular social networks like Facebook. Basically,
you can share your thoughts using photos and then type on top of the photo using
an array of different fonts. It has been described as “A Pinterest for Memes” (Quota-
palooza).
What makes it fun?One of the best things to do on this social network is to scroll down the page and
take a look at the kind of things that people confess to. If you find a picture that you
like, you also have the opportunity to share it on Tumblr, Facebook or Twitter.
Probably the biggest bonus about this social network that is really is a place to vent
your ideas and thoughts and actually have freedom of speech over everything you
say. Even today, we are not free to say some of the things we’d like to, not because it’s
illegal, but because we fear the scrutiny of our family and friends. Here, you can say
absolutely anything you want and not have to worry about a thing.
What makes it better for privacy? If you already use Facebook, you’ll have noticed that your account is set to public, unless you change the settings to private. Even still, Facebook still know
your name, where you are and what you like. This information can be used to push advertising in your face, or even passed onto the authorities when they
put in a request.
Whisper, on the other hand, won’t even ask your name. When you post, it says that the post came from ‘Near New York’, for example. This really is truly anony-
mous and if you’re the kind of person that worries about your online anonymity but still want to share your thoughts and ideas sometimes, there really is
no better place to do other than Whisper.
Whisper is probably the first 100% anonymous social network and if privacy is your thing, then this is the social network for you.
To use Whisper you do need to download the app for your iPhone or Android phone, at the moment you can’t reply to people or post your own ‘whispers’
