This is my favorite time of year. I love that there are so many outdoor activities for families to do. From apple picking to pumpkin carving and even dressing up as our favorite ghouls and goblins, this month is definitely a time for enjoying our families, making memories and forming new traditions. Our new calendar coordinator, Catherine Moore, has worked hard to include our favorite seasonal outings this month along with some new adventures. One again, we will be participating in the Fall Hay Day on October 11 th . We are looking forward to using our new banner to advertise our club and bring in new members. We need a few volunteers to help man our booth, so please contact Catherine Moore ([email protected] ) if you are interested. With last year’s tree planting being such a success, we have decided to volunteer to plant another one. We will be bringing much needed shade to the newest play area at Riverside Park. Another exciting activity this month is the MOM’S Club Scrapbook signing. Christine Anderson and Betty Miller worked together on the 2007-2008 scrap book. We hope to see many of you at JJ Biello on October 20 th to come see it in person, sign it and help us finish a wonderful keepsake for our club. Also on the calendar are some of the usual favorites – like Berry Patch Farms and Hill Crest Orchards. For those of us that love the excitement that Halloween brings, we can meet at Boo at the Zoo and at the Woodstock Kid Fest for some yummy candy and fun entertainment. We will also visit The Terrace Senior Living Community (formerly The Oaks) to participate in the Halloween parade. Lastly, I look forward to seeing many of you at my favorite mom events - Board Games for Moms, Circle of Friends and Walking Club. You can visit with old friends or meet someone new; either way it is a great way to connect with each other. In closing, I want to thank those of you who filled out the MOM’S Club Survey. We hope to use the productive information to bring about positive change and new ideas that will include members – old and new. We, as your board, are always open to suggestions and feedback from you. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if we can do something better or should try something new. We are here to serve you! President’s Message

The cool, crisp air and the beautiful yellow, orange and red leaves on the trees can only mean one thing – Fall is finally here! This is my favorite time of year. North Metro Gymnastics North Metro is once again offering us classes for our children on one Friday per month at 11 AM. The cost is $5 per child. These classes will be included on the monthly activity calendar, but for more info

contact Jenny Jones at [email protected]. RSVPs must be sent to the MOMS Club gmail account at [email protected] on the Monday before each class. The class dates are as follows: October 10; November 14; December 12; January 16; February 13; March 13; April 17; and May 8.

Playgroups Have you been considering joining a playgroup but need some more information about our current groups? Just contact Julie Kori, the Playgroup Liaison, and she can let you know what age groups

currently meet and when and help you find some new playmates for your children. Currently, there are only four active playgroups, so there must be some more members out there to form more playgroups. If you have any questions or are interested in joining a group, please contact Julie Kori at 678-880-1983 or [email protected].

MOMS Club Tidbits Our secretary, Amy Nelson, sends out weekly tidbits through email to the entire club. There are usually time-sensitive notices in these emails so please be sure to read them. If you have anything to share with

the entire club please send your message to Amy at [email protected] and she'll be sure to get it out to the club.

Helping Hands Helping Hands coordinates not only meals for moms and baskets for babies, but also babysitting needs in times of family crisis. If you should need help, please contact Gail Battey at

[email protected]. Our goal is to support all moms in times of need.

Chapter Historian SAY CHEESE!!! If you happen to take photos during any of our activities, or playgroups, please share them with Betty Miller as she continues to fill our MOMS Club scrapbook. If possible, please

write carefully the names and what the activity is along with the date (or month) on the back of each photo or separate sheet of paper. You can give them to Betty personally, email them to [email protected], or mail them to her at 1508 Willow Bend, Woodstock, GA 30188. Thanks!

Calendar IDEAS! Do you have a great idea to share? Or have a fun place in mind where you’d want to play with the kids at? Please send your fun activity ideas to our NEW calendar coordinator, Catherine Moore at

[email protected] so she can coordinate the next month’s MOMS Club activities. When taking a more active role in submitting creative ideas, the more our club will appeal to more members. All ideas accepted! As the new Calendar Coordinator, I am forming a Calendar Committee …if you’d like to be on it please email me at [email protected].

Fall Hay DayCherokee County Parks & Recreation Department is putting on a Fall Hay Day – a community fall festival with craft vendors, local businesses, and kids’ activities. Admission is one unwrapped toy per family to benefit MUST (Ministries United for Service and Training, Inc.). Our chapter voted to have

a booth at the Hay Day as a way to recruit new members. We need volunteers to man our booth for each time slot during the event. It will be super easy - we have our business card taped to lollipops to hand out, flyers about our club for more interested moms, and Halloween Coloring Sheets at our table for kids to enjoy. All you have to do is talk with moms who might want to know a little bit more about our club. We'll have 2 - 3 members at the booth for each shift so you don't have to worry about being put on the spot - someone will be there to help you answer any questions (or to chat with during lulls in traffic). And, we've divided it up into shifts of only 90 minutes, so you'll still have time to enjoy the Hay Day events with your family: * 10:30 – 12:00 includes helping set-up

* 12:00 – 1:30* 1:30 – 3:00 includes helping break down/clean-up (during the last 15 - 30 minutes last year, there weren't many people left, so it was easy to get wrapped up by 3)

Please contact Catherine Moore ([email protected] or (678) 367-1162) if you can help out with this event!!

Long-Term Service Project: “THE HOUSE OF HOPE”Last month we spotlighted our long-term service project – House of Hope. This month we have listed information about how you can help as an individual (apart from our club activities). It is completely voluntary and you are in no way obligated to do so; however, some of you who have

learned more about the House of Hope may want to know what else you can do to help. Thank you in advance for helping us make a difference in the lives of these women.

How YOU Can Help The House of Hope:

1. Save A Life Campaign: This entails making monthly pledges towards one lady’s expenses:

“You can help save one woman’s life with a gift that covers her basic living expenses for one week:”

Her groceries for a week $25

Her transportation for a week $16

Her housing for a week $100

Her utilities for a week $35

Full sponsorship for one week is $176; for one month $700 and for one year $8,400.

2. Angel Food Ministries: Purchase a $30 box of Angel Food for the House of Hope. www.angelfoodministires.com

By buying food from first rate suppliers at substantial volume discounts, Angel Food Ministries is able to provide families with approximately $65 worth of quality nutritious food for $30. Angel Food Ministries does not use out-of-date food or inferior products. ABOUT THE FOOD: Each month's menu is different and consists of fresh, frozen and packaged food. Angel Food is purchased from the nation’s top food suppliers. Providing quality, nutritious food at significant discounts on a regular basis is one practical way to give people a “hand up” during

Page 4: October 2008 Newsletter

MOMS Club® of Woodstock, Georgia—October 2008 Newsletter http://www.geocities.com/woodstockmomsclub2000/index.html

difficult times. The cost for a box of Angel Food is $30. There is no purchase limit for boxes of Angel Food. There are no applications or qualifications necessary to purchase. ABOUT THE VALUE: Comparison shopping nationwide in various grocery stores has revealed that the average retail value for the same food items would be approximately $65. Generally, one box of Angel Food assists in feeding a family of four for about one week or a single senior citizen for almost a month.

3. Job Networking: Help the ladies find a job, when needed. For example, Pat is a skilled administrator and is in Phase II of her recovery so; she is looking for a part-time job as an Administrative Assistant!

4. November House of Hope Craft Show: Spread the word and help to find craftsmen/women to participate in the craft show at Gary & Renee McCormick’s house. All craftsmen/women will be required to donate 20% of each purchase to the House of Hope

5. Donate items to the House of Hope from their “Wish List:” (see examples of past donations below)

Computers (for job searching & developing computer skills),

Car for Adina (since public transportation is not readily available in the Roswell/Woodstock area & she is ready to graduate the program & is working)

TV/DVD player (for enjoyment)

6. Form Relationships: Friendships and relationships make a big difference in these ladies starting a new life. These relationships prevent the ladies from wanting to return to their previous life. If you connect with one of the ladies during one of our events with the House of Hope, then feel free to invite them into your world! You can:

Invite a lady or a group of ladies over to have a meal with your family

Set-up a “ladies movie rental night” at your house

Treat them to a meal

Extend a lady a guest pass to your gym

Go on a walk

Small GroupsActivity Groups Information - October 2008

Some suggested groups have been Book Club, Recipe Club and the “Lonely Wives” Dinner Club, but we need someone to head them up. Coordinating a group is not time consuming and it is a great way to get more involved in the club.
