Mission Statement

“ We, Océano Alliance, are hard working business students united together for a specific cause towards working with Buttonwood Park Zoo in order to raise awareness within our community about the Zoo and the ocean. Through fundraising and teamwork we hope to make a difference with the community landmark while simultaneously promoting sustainability and eco-friendliness. “

Community PartnerButtonwood Park Zoo

• New Bedford, MA. • 30 exhibits, including elephant,

bison, mountain lions, bears, eagles, seals, otters, and farm animals.

• Named “one of the finest small zoos in the United States” by the AZA.

• Leader in global wildlife conservation, dedicated to providing excellent care for animals and educating the public.

Service to Community Partner

• Volunteered at Buttonwood during busiest time of year, New Bedford school vacation week and Earth Week.

• Provided service to community partner by being in charge of the bear exhibition learning table.

• Fundraiser for Buttonwood Park Zoo.

• Float in the New Bedford Earth Eve parade promoting Worlds Ocean Day for Buttonwood Park Zoo.

Earth Day Awareness

• Planned fundraiser so that it fell on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2014.

• Promoted event for Tropical Smoothie while simultaneously promoting Earth Day and the Earth Week events happening at Buttonwood Park Zoo.

• Used Buttonwood Park Zoo’s website to explain ways to conserve and ways to help the earth while promoting our event on Facebook.

Community Involvement

• Connected with the community through the use of our fundraiser.

• Promoting and involved the University of Massachusetts student population by posting flyers and handing them out.

• New Bedford Macaroni Kid promoted our event on their page.

• New Bedford Macaroni Kid is an extremely popular website in the South coast that promotes events for children and families and are followed by over 700 people on facebook.

Goal One

• Raise $300 for Buttonwood Zoo

• Status: In progress. With two

fundraisers planned for the upcoming

weeks, one April 22nd (Earth Day) and on May

6th, we plan to meet our quota of raising 300

dollars for the Zoo.

Goal Two and Three

• Volunteer at least 10 hours collectively

• Provide community service by volunteering at Buttonwood during busiest time of year for them.

• Status: Partially met.

• Conflicts that caused us to not meet our goal.
