ਜਿਉ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਕਾਸਟ ਮਝਾਜਰ ਜਬਨੁ ਸੰਿਮ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਰਿ ਸਾਜਰ ॥ ਜਬਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ਹਜਰ ਿੀ ਕੋ ਦੁਆਰ ॥ As the fire in the forest, without control,

cannot serve any purpose in the same way

without a Guru, one cannot attain the Gate

of God. 535

The fire of desire sits is in the Mind

ਨੀਲ ਅਨੀਲ ਅਗਜਨ ਇਕ ਠਾਈ ॥

There are

billions,

countless

billions of fires

of desire at

the seat of the

mind. 221

A controlled mind is the only useful mind

You must understand the attributes of the

mind before you can control it.

The mind experiences everything through its

senses called indriyas.

ਇੰਦਰੀ ਦਸੇ ਦਸੇ ਫੁਜਨ ਧਾਵਤ ਤਰੈ ਗੁਣੀਆ ਜਿਨੁ ਨ ਜਟਕਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ There are ten indriyas of sense and action;

the ten wander unrestrained. Under the

influence of the three qualities, they are not

stable, even for an instant. 1310

10 Indriyas

5 for senses Subtle

5 for Action physical

• Sight

• Sound

• Taste

• Smell

• Touch

• Skin

• Upper Limbs

• Lower Limbs

• Rectum

• Reproductive Organs

We control the mind by learning to stay

present and shutting down the indriyas.

For the mind to stay present it needs a tool

Wāhegurū is the Gurmantra

it is also called Gurshabad

• Close your eyes

• No images in your mind

• Keep your body still

• Focus on the sound like a hammer striking

the mind

ਿੀਅਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਿਪਤ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੁ ॥ ਅੰਤਜਰ ਲਾਗੀ ਿਜਲ ਬੁਝੀ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਜਿ ਜਗਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

The one who chants Ram; the mind will be pleased and appeased. The raging fire

within is extinguished; the Gurmukh obtains

spiritual wisdom. ||1||Pause|| 20
