When it comes to woundcare, medicine has reached apoint where the current lines oftreatment products are not nearly aseffective as they had been in pastyears. This may be due to antibodiesthat have developed from using medi-cine with some chemical-based ingre-dients. Whatever the reason, woundcare products today, in many cases, have become virtually useless.

Ocean Aid, Inc. researches, in-vents, and manufactures an armamen-tarium of completely natural antibacteri-al wound care products that work. Indoing so, Ocean Aid is changing theway healthcare professionals will ap-proach future wound care, and howthey can best manage it. Why should a petroleum-or ointment-based product be used?(Wouldn’t this cut off the air supply tothe wound and slow cell growth?) of Orthopedics at New Haven Hospitalin North Carolina, Ocean Aid productswere shown to be well-received by thepatients, cost-effective, and easy to ad-minister. In this study, diabetic patientswith stage-2 and stage-3 ulcers were in-

structed to use OceanAid Spray as the soletopical product. Theywere told to clean thewound by soaking asterile gauze in OceanAid Spray and thenapplying this gauze tothe wound. At thispoint, the gauze be-came a wet-to-drydressing, which would

be re-soaked 3 more times each day byspraying the intact gauze. Wounds werethen débrided every 10 to 14 days bysharp dissection to the appropriate levelof bleeding tissue. When the ulcer hadimproved sufficiently to a Wagner-1depth, the spray was used without adressing 3 to 4 times daily until healed.

While this study represents only aphase 2 clinical trial, it is of interest tonote that none of the lesions becameinfected or reinfected while using thisproduct. This is attributable to thenatural antimicrobial actions oflysozyme in the product.

The study also examined the use ofOcean Aid Moisturizing Foam as apostoperative dressing following a phe-nol-alcohol procedure. Twenty-one pa-tients including several diabetic pa-tients were followed for an average of 2to 3 months after a phenol-alcoholprocedure for permanent correction ofan infected ingrown toenail. Patientswere instructed to leave their postoper-ative bandage in place for the first 24hours, then to remove the bandage, and drain and flush the wound withOcean Aid Moisturizing Foam. In thisprocedure, the foam product was pre-ferred to the spray because the foamwas easier to use in a small area (like atoe). Patients were instructed to dis-pense Ocean Aid Moisturizing Foamonto a cotton swab and apply this to

sis bullosa, abrasions, and insect bites.Ocean Aid Moisturizing Foam is

appropriate for many conditions thatarise daily in the podiatrist’s practice.Based on the same concepts as thespray, Ocean Aid Moisturizing Foam ismade fromall-natural in-gredients thatcomplementthe humanbody’s ownhealing pro-cesses. UsingOcean AidMoisturizingFoam after op-erative phe-nol/alcohol treatments, as well asother dermal chemical treatments, provides the patient relief from painand protection from harmful bacteria;it acts as an invisible bandage. TheOcean Aid Moisturizing Foam doesnot clog dermal pores, and it is easy toapply. Again, cross-contamination isnot an issue. The foam is indicated forpsoriasis, postoperative phenol/alcoholtreatment, porokeratotic lesions, mosa-ic verruca, verruca plantaris, mollus-cum contagiosum, and hereditary ker-atosis punctata plantaris.

Ocean Aid, Inc. was established tooffer practicing podiatrists the optionof having a line of all-natural, safe, ef-fective, and easy-to-use products, which they can dispense from their of-fice. The entire line of Ocean Aid prod-ucts is safe for the diabetic population, which is growing at an unprecedentedrate. In the coming months and years, the practicing podiatrist will be facingmore and more diabetic patients withchronic wounds. Given this scenario, the Ocean Aid line of wound careproducts is the perfect complement toone’s daily office armamentarium.

In a clinical study performed by Dr.Paul Glaser, DPM, FACFS, of SummitPodiatry, PC in Wilmington, North Car-olina, Glaser Foot & Ankle Clinic inWhiteville, North Carolina, and seniorattending physician for the Department

the toe 3 to 4 times a day, covering itwith a fabric bandage, and then leav-ing it exposed to the air at night after 3days. Results showed that all woundshealed without complication. Whencompared with a control group, phe-nol-induced inflammation regressedsignificantly sooner in the Ocean AidMoisturizing Foam group. Additional-ly, when the foam group was com-pared with the control group, overallhealing time was reduced to the 90thstate in 2 to 3 weeks compared withthe more common 3 to 5 weeks whentopical antibiotics alone are used.

In conclusion, Ocean Aid Sprayand Ocean Aid Moisturizing Foam arecost-effective and well-accepted natu-ral products for the skin conditionsmentioned previously and as woundcare dressings.

In acute skin conditions, the aver-age treatment course of 2 to 3 weekswould cost $30 to $50 for Ocean Aidproducts compared with hundreds ofdollars for comparable topicalsteroids. Chronic skin conditions re-

quire constant care, which can costthousands of dollars per year. Also, there is the issue that some productscan negatively affect the immune sys-tem (e.g., topical or oral corticos-teroids). Ocean Aid products containan isotonic solution of sea salt withall trace elements and natural antimi-crobial Lysozyme that nurture tissuesby promoting natural healing.
