Fr. Bob Hoefler Scholarship
The blessings and generosity of Fr. Bob continues to touch our community. A scholarship has been established from a donation to our parish from our late Pastor. Two $5,000 scholarships are available to SFA parishioners who are high school seniors and are seeking a post-secondary education at an accredited institution of higher learning. Please see our website under the Parish In Action tab for eligibility criteria and more detailed information. Deadline for submitting an application to the parish office is Friday, April 20, 2018 at 4:30pm.
Campus Security In this day and age we are all concerned about security. Our parish has developed a security plan for our campus. One aspect of the plan involves security during Mass; that is, how we address potential disturbances, medical emergencies or severe weather incidents during mass. We are looking for volunteers in three different groups to help address these situations. The groups are a service team (an expansion of our ushers and greeters); a medical team (consisting of medical professionals) and law enforcement personnel. If you are in one of these three groups and would like to volunteer your services for the security of your fellow parishioners and have questions about the plan there will be a table staffed by members of our security committee in the parish hall after Masses on the weekends of April 14 & 15 and April 21 & 22.

Note from Fr. Ray Holy Week and Easter were joyous and worshipful. The liturgies were well planned and well attended. I want to say thank you to the many people who worked so hard to make our Holy Week and Easter beautiful and worshipful. This Sunday is the Octave of Easter, the eighth day, one of the most ancient commemorations in the Church. Over the last week we have celebrated the resurrection every day at Mass and in the Liturgy of the Hours. Only recently (since 2001) has this Sunday been known as Divine Mercy Sunday. We celebrate Easter Season until the Solemnity of Pentecost on May 20. We welcome Chris Aldinger as our new Director of Parish Operations. Chris joined us on April 3. He has more than 13 years experience in parish management. As Chris joins us we will soon bid farewell to Tom Nolan after 16 years as our Director of Parish Operations. Tom will be around for about a month assisting in Chris’ transition. Annual Diocesan Appeal (ADA): Our goal this year is $334,040. As of April 1, $123,017 has been pledged for 36.83% of our goal. Any amount pledge over our goal will be returned to the parish; if we are short of the goal we will have to make up the shortage out of our parish operating funds. Please prayerfully consider supporting the ADA. Thank you for your giving what you can. Message of Pope Francis for Easter: “We Christians believe and know that Christ’s resurrection is the true hope of the world, the hope that does not disappoint. It is the power of the grain of wheat, the power of that love which humbles itself and gives itself to the very end, and thus truly renews the world. This power continues to bear fruit today in the furrows of our history, marked by so many acts of injustice and violence.” John’s gospel for the Second Sunday of Easter tells us of Jesus’ visit to his disciples on the evening of his Resurrection. He sent the Holy Spirit on them and told them “whose sins you forgive are forgiven.” We also know that Thomas wasn’t there; he doubted until he saw Jesus a week later and made his profession of faith. We are invited to make our profession of faith even though we haven’t seen. “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe. … Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” John 20:27, 29
Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Ave Maria 302 will be conducting a Life Saver Drive after all Masses on April 28 & 29. Funds raised through this event are donated to local charities and missions. Please be generous in your support of this worthwhile cause.
After serving as Usher Coordinator for the past 5 years, Jeff Gust decided it was time to allow someone else the opportunity. While on the job Jeff did wonderful job of training new ushers
and incorporating new procedures requested by Fr. Ray or the Diocese. While Jeff is stepping down from this role, he will continue serving on the Stevens Ministry leadership team. We thank him for serving as Usher Coordinator at such a high level.
We welcome Rob Mauritz as our new Usher
Coordinator. Rob and his wife, JoAnne, have been SFA parish members since 1993.
As our parish continues to grow, the ministry of being an usher has never been more important. If you enjoy helping people and are looking for a way to serve the Church, being an usher may be your calling. We are in need of more ushers so please prayerfully consider signing up. Usher training will be scheduled at a variety of times over the next few months. Please see Rob in the Parish Hall to answer your questions or to sign up! Come be part of Liturgical Ministries!
Nursery Volunteers We are seeking additional volunteers to help staff our nursery. We have volunteer hours available almost every week for many different events, including Sunday Mass, Youth Faith Formation events and much more. Opportunities will continue through the summer. Priority will be given to students who are in 6th grade or older and have completed a nursery orientation. The next orientations are listed below and will likely be the last ones offered this school year. If interested, register for one of the half-hour sessions at http://signup.com/go/kUUHawu If none of these dates work in your schedule or if you have questions, please email Rebecca Bahl, nursery coordinator, at [email protected]
