The Laser Disc Player of the 80’s

In the technological world of education, there are many technologies we use for a year or so and then they are no longer utilized. This is what happened to the Laser discs.

The main reason the Laser Disc Player is not being used is because something Better took its place. This was the DVD. The DVD replaced the Laser Disc in many ways, but one of the main ways was in price. The DVD was much cheaperTo purchase than the laser discs. The size was also an important factor.

The video and information from various other sources can be see. Students can see wildlife videos, hear animals from different continents, and various news items. Textbooks are also enhances as with new information that can be seen not only on the pages but in the videos.Obsolete: What does it obsolete; replace?

This technology replaces reel to reel tape movies and hopes to eliminate VHS videos.

Retrieves and Rekindles: What does it rekindle from the past?

The mystery of video and enhances the news footages from history. Makes textbooks come alive with video from different countries, cultures and instills new ideas.Reverses: What may eventually reverse it and replace it?

Eventually this will be replaced with CD’s or DVD’s. The digital revolution has begun and the emphasis is smaller and more compact.

Increasing returns is the war against two competing technologies that come out at the same time.

The DVD discs are in competition with other websites such as DiscoverySchool and other educational sites that research and add educational videos.

DVD’s and Online Movies such as Netflix. For the DVD and Online movies would be Red Queens.
