The Chief Guest, Dr. Tofail Ahmed also instantly announced to donate Tk. 10,600.00 (Ten thousand six hundred) to make the round figure of Tk. 500000.00 (Five lacs). After the lunch a colorful cultural program was held performed by the students of the University.

BU organized freshers reception program for the newly admitted students in Spring 2017. The program was held on 6 February 2017, at Comilla Town Hall. Prof. Dr. Tofail Ahmed, local government specialist and former Professor, Chittagong University was present as the Chief Guest and Mr. Hasan Imam Majumdar, Principal, Ajit Guho College, Comilla was present as the Special Guest. The Program was chaired by Mr. Prof. Md. Abdus Sattar, Vice Chancellor of Britannia University. Among others Dr. S. J. Anwar Zahid, Registrar, BU; Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman, Dean, School of Arts and Social Science,

Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya, Dean, School of Business, Md. Milan Hossain, Dean, School of Law and other faculty members and officials were present in the program. In the extended part of the program, a cheque of Tk. 4, 89,400 .00 (Four lacs eighty nine thousand and four hundred) which was collected from the donation of the BU students, teachers, officials and the University authority was given to the father of Bindu (Bindu is one of the BU students and she is suffering from kidney diseases). The 3rd meeting of the Academic Council was held on 9 November 2016 at 4.00 pm in the University conference room. In the meeting several agenda were discussed - Review of Promotion Policy for faculty members, The approval of Faculty Promotion Assessment Committee, The approval of the revisited curriculum of BBA, CSE and English Departments, The approval of GradeImprovement Policy and miscellaneous. The meeting was presided over by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar. Among others, Md. Siddiqur Rahman (Member, Board of Trustees), Prof. Amir Ali Chowdhury (Ex Principal, Victoria Govt. College, Comilla), Dr. S. J. Anowar Zahid (Director, Research, BARD, Comilla), Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman (Dean, School of Arts & Social Science), Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean and Chairman, School of Business), Mr. Milan Hossain (Chairman, School of Law), Mr. Md. Abdur Rashid (Chairman, Department of English), and Mr. Abdus Sattar (Chairman, Department of CSE) were present .

BU Morals and Ethics Club organized a Human Chain on 6 December 2016 at 12:30 pm (Tuesday) in front of University with a view to making an urge to stop Genocide and Brutality against the Rohingyas in Myanmar. The members of BU Morals and Ethics Club and other students of Britannia University joined the chain. Besides, Md. Milan Hossain, Associate Professor and Advisor, BUMEC, and Faculty members of different schools were also present. In that chain, Md. Rasel Ahmed, President of

BUMEC (a student of the Department of LLB), Md. Abdur Rahman Rabby , Secretary of BUMEC (a student of the Department of BBA) and Md. Ali Haider, joint secretary (a student of Department of law) delivered their speech. They made a strong urge to stop genocide and brutality against the Rohingyas in Myanmar; they raised questions why the UN and international community are silent on Rohingya issue; they also claimed permanent solution to the problem.

Britannia University celebrated National Victory Day on 16 December 2017 at university campus. It was a discussion and celebration program and all Deans and Chairmen of the respective Schools and Departments, faculty members, officials and students were present in the program. Syed Shafiqul Haque (Director, Admin) was present as a Special Invitee. In the first segment of the program, the National Flag was hoisted and in the second segment, Deans and Chairmen of the respective Schools and Departments delivered their valuable speeches highlighting the spirit of the day. The program ended up with distributing light refreshments to the participants.

Britannia University celebrated Bangla Nabarsha on the 1st day of Baishakh, 1424 with various cultural events. Like the previous year, the University observed the day with a gala cultural program and various colorful events. The program venue, Comilla Zilla School Auditorium and its premises were decorated with colorful balloons and ribbons. The students of the University also made the venue more festive with their artistic and cultural dresses. Nearly 600 students, faculty members, and office stuff participated in the day-long program. The first segment of the day started with the distributions of Boishakhi Special Snacks to the participants. The students of English Department opened a stall of traditional pitha and Baishakhi items. Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar was present as the Chief Guest, among others BoT members, Director (Admin), Registrar, Deans and Chairmen of respective Schools and Departments were present. In the cultural program there were poetry recitation, dance, fashion show, song, short drama, mimicry and band show.

Britannia University observed ‘International Mother Language Day’ on 21 February 2017 with due solemnity and showing homage to the heroic sons of the nation who scarified their lives for the sake of our mother tongue, Bangla. The activities of the observation started with a rally, ‘Provath Feri’. The ‘Provath Feri’ started from Comilla Education Board

and ended at the Central Shahid Minar, Comilla . Honorable trustee members, the Registrar, faculty members, officials and the students of the University took part in that ‘Provath Feri’. The program of the day ended at the Comilla Shahid Minar after offering flowers as a sign of homage to the language martyrs.

Britannia University observed forty one Death Anniversary of Father of the Nation, Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day with great respect and solemnity on 15 August 2016. A discussion and Doa Mahfil were arranged by the University on that day. Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman, Dean, School of Arts & Social Science, chaired the program. Among others, Freedom Fighter Syed Shafiqul

Hoque (Director, Admin), Registrar, Deans and Chairmen of respective School and Departments, faculty members, officials and students were present. The speakers discussed various life events of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and emphasized on his

leadership and honesty. The program ended up with a special prayer for the salvation of his departed soul.

Observance of 41th Death Anniversary of Father of the Nation, Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman

A representative team from Britannia University participated in the “Public Safety and Law and Order” on 17 July 2016 at the auditorium of Krishibid Institution, Dhaka. The program was chaired by Mr. Asaduzzaman Khan, the Home Minister of People’s Republic of Bangladesh Government. The team includes Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean and Chairman, School of Business), Mr. Milan Hossain (Dean and Chairman, School of Law), Mr. Md. Abdur Rashid (Chairman, Department of English) and Mr. Abdus Sattar (Chairman, Department of CSE) and four students from the four respective departments. About 300 participants including teachers, administrative officials and students of other private universities of Bangladesh, attended the meeting. The meeting began with one minute silence in memory of the victims of the terrorist attacks at Holey Artisan Bakery at Gulshan and Sholakia Eidgah in Kishoreganj. In the inaugural speech, the Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said, “we have to create such an atmosphere at the campuses so that the terrorists cannot have any scope to materialize their ideas there.”Students and teachers of other universities also delivered speeches

emphasizing on creating opportunities for co-curriculum activities by the university authority to keep the youngsters on the right track.The following day Britannia University organized a

meeting on the same topic to create awareness among the students and their guardians. In the meeting, it was decided that all students, official and faculty members would bear ID card in the premises, CCTV monitoring should be ensured, a visitor book will be kept in the reception to register the information regarding every visitor and the class attendance for the student will be strictly mainted and accordingly each guardian will be informed.

Britannia University celebrated ‘Independence and National Day 2017’ at the University campus on 26 March 2017. Syed Shafiqul Haque (Director, Admin) was a special invitee and Professor Dr. Md. Absus Sattar (Vice Chancellor, Britannia University) was the Chair of the Program. Among others, faculty members, officials and students were present in the

program. In the first event of the program, Deans and Chairmen of the respective Schools and Departments delivered their valuable speeches highlighting the significance and spirit of the day. The discussants opined that 26 March is the name of an inspiration for our nation; therefore, the new generation of this country must know the history of the day.

INDEPENDENCE AND NATIONAL DAY CELEBRATION

Britannia University organized admission fairs for the incumbent students and guardians in the sessions - Fall 2016, Spring 2017 and Summer 2017. All the fairs were 07 day long Admission Fair. The fair of Fall 2016 started from 21 September 2016 and ended on 27 September 2016, the fair of Spring 2017 started from 12 January 2017 and ended on 19 January 2017 and the fair of Summer 2017 started from 03 May 2017 and ended on 09 May 2017 at Comilla Town Hall, Kandirpar, Comilla. All the fairs were inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Britannia University, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar. Among others the Chairmen and Deans of respective Schools and Departments, faculty members, officials and some representative students were present in the fairs. In the fairs students got 50% discount on the total admission fees and could know details about the academic affairs of the university.

The freshers reception program of Fall 2016 was organized by the University on 19 October 2016 at C o m i l l a Town Hall. Prof. Dr. Ali Ashraf, the V i c e Chancellor of Comilla Universi ty was present as the Chief Guest. The P r o g r a m was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of Britannia University, Prof. Md. Abdus Sattar. Among others Mr.

M. C. Baral, Registrar, Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman, Dean, School of Arts and Social Science, Prof. Dr.

Surajit Sarbabidya, Dean School of Business, Md. Milan Hossain, Dean, School of Law and others faculty members and officials were present. The program followed by offering packet lunch to the

freshers and by organizing a cultural program performed by the students of BU.

Britannia University organized 5 day-long grand annual study tour- 2016 on 22-26 February at Cox´s Bazar, Inani, Himchori and at Saint Martin Island. A total of 300 students, some Faculty members and office staff of the University joined the study tour. The journey started from the university campus with seven luxurious buses. First of all, the tour team visited Saint Martin Island. After staying two days and one night there the team made a stopover at Cox´s Bazar. Staying at Cox´s Bazar, the team visited Himchori, Inani and Cox´s Bazar sea beaches. During the visit all enjoyed the surrounding scenery of the spots. In the Hotel premise, a cultural program was arranged which included various cultural events such as rock song, solo song and duet song etc.

As a part of regular activities of Games and Sports Club of Britannia University, BU TV Cup Cricket Tournament was organised where the teams from four departments participated. In the competitive and high voltage final match of the tournament, Super Zeal, the team of BBA Department defeated the team of LLB Department. In the prize giving ceremony, the vice chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar was present as the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean and Chairman, School of Business), Mr. Milan Hossain (Dean and Chairman, School of Law) and Mr. Md. Abdur Rashid (Chairman, Department of English) were present as the Special Guests. Besides, Sheikh Abujar, the adviser of Games and Sports Club, other faculty members and students of BU were present. The Chief Guests handed over TV, Cup and Crests to the Champion and Runner up team.

On 2 September 2016 Britannia University Family celebrated 71st birth anniversary of the Vice C h a n c e l l o r , Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar. The program was initiated offering him a beautiful flower bouquet by Syed Shafiqul Haque, D i r e c t o r , Administration, Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman (Dean, School of Arts & Social Science), Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean and Chairman, School of Business), Mr. Milan Hossain (Chairman, School

of Law), Mr. Md. Abdur Rashid (Chairman, Department of English), Mr. Abdus Sattar (Dean

and Chairman, Department of CSE), Mr. Shahidul Islam Sheikh, Asst. Controller of Examinations & HR and by others officials. Later on the event was c e l e b r a t e d cutting a cake

by honorable Vice Chancellor and announcing a Lunch party for all the officials and faculty members of BU.

The officials and faculty members of Britannia University organized a formal farewell program on 25 January 2017 to honor Mr. Makhan Chandra Baral (Registrar, BU) for his valuable services to the University. Mr. MC Baral has served three years in his position and made significant contributions to the University. On the farewell program, honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar was present as the Chief Guest. Among others, Md. Siddiqur Rahman (Member, Board of Trustees), Sayed Shafiqul Hoque (Director, Admin), Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman (Dean, School of Arts & Social Science), Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean and Chairman, School of Business), Mr. Milan Hossain (Dean and Chairman, School of Law), Mr. Md. Abdur Rashid (Chairman, Department of English), Mr. Abdus Sattar (Chairman, Department of CSE) and other officials and faculty members were present. In the farewell speeches, all praised the honesty, diligence, personality and sincerity of Mr. Baral. In the second part of the program, he was honored with a crest, a photo in a frame and flower bouquets from the Vice Chancellor, officials and Faculty members.

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

A workshop on Accounting Software ‘TALLY ERP-9’ was organized on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 for acquaintance of the BBA students with the application of accounting software. During the workshop, the students were provided TALLY ERP-9. After workshop a competition of using the software to solve an accounting related problem was held and the first three (3) participants of the competition were honored with the award from the School of Business.

The training session was held on November, 2017 at the Conference Room of BU for the BU officials.

Internship defense of the 1st and 2nd batch BBA students was held on 25 May 2017 before two specialized boards on Marketing and Finance. They reports of the internship projects were assessed on the defense session through the criteria of reviewing literature, designing research methods, data collection and analysis, recommendations based on the findings of the study.

As a mandatory academic requirement for the students to visit any factory, production plant, corporate house, tourism spot or center and the likes and thereby prepare and submit their respective assignments in the form of reports to the concerned supervisor, the School of Business, BU organized one study tour and three industrial tours in the academic year July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017.

As part of its placement tie up with the leading corporate companies of the country, the School of Business, BU has already ensured 100% placement for all the students of its 1st and 2nd batch BBA students. The students got very good and worthy placement in the manufacturing, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), real estate, banking and service industries including few multinationals. The companies offered placements include:

The School of Business, Britannia University organized a holistic industrial tour of visiting more than 10 companies at Habigonj Industrial Park (HIP) of the PRAN-RFL Group with a big team of more than 200 students of BBA Program on November 11, 2016 (Friday). The students were given valuable briefing from the high officials of HIP with practical orientation through physical visit, verification and observation on the production, quality control, human resource management, marketing planning, distribution management, etc., of the PRAN-RFL products. The following day the participants went to a study tour to enhance the knowledge of the students in tourism management by visiting Madhabkunda Waterfall and Eco Park.

This tour was organized by the School of Business, Britannia University and was held on 9 September 2016, at Shitakundo Eco Park, Chittagong to give the students practical orientation regarding the various aspects of eco-tourism management with the first-hand information related to the planning for developing and maintaining natural resource attractions, creating demand for events, food, leisure and recreation for the tourists, security and safety of the wild life, nature, animals, tourists, etc. This will enhance the professional expertise and knowledge of tourism and hospitality management of the participants.

To enrich the HR, production, quality control, distribution and import-export management knowledge and skills of BBA students, School of Business, Britannia University organized another industrial tour at Soorty Textiles (BD) Limited at Comilla EPZ with various batches of marketing, finance and HRM specializations senior level students. In that tour, the BBA students were also informed and encouraged by the high officials to apply for the job opportunities prevailing in the company.

BASIS Students’ Forum BU Chapter (Department of Computer Science & Engineering) organized an activa-tion campaign on 6 April 2017 at BU campus. This was a campaign to select the best teams from the universities of Bangladesh to participate in the “NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017”, a global event organized by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), with the collaboration of Bangladesh Associ-ation of Software and Information Services (BASIS) as the host organizer for the event in Bangladesh. The event is supported by BASIS Students’ Forum, Bangla-desh Innovation Forum & Cloud Camp Bangladesh. Mr. Abdus Sattar (Chairman, Department of CSE), and other faculty members Mr. Shovan Kumar Paul, Mr. Mozammel Hoque, Mr. Sheikh Abujar, Mr. Md.

Mohibbullah were present in the event. BASIS Students Forum Comilla University Chapter Affairs, Mr. Nayan Banik gave a presentation to the students about this event.

3rd Space Apps International Hackathon titled, “NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017” was held at Independent University Bangladesh (IUB) on April: 29-30, 2017. This program was organized by National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) jointly with Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS). Only fifty teams from over 100 universities in Bangladesh were selected to participate and Britannia University team was lucky toparticipate in“NASA Space Apps Challenge 2017”.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering team of Britannia University participated in a CUET National Collegiate Programming Contest (NCPC-2017) held on 9 March 2017 with supported by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC), Government of Bangladesh and ICT Division at CUET Campus.One team (Team: Numb) from Britannia University participated and the team consists of three members. The team members were, Md. Omar Kaushru (Batch: Spring 14), Sajal Acharjee (Batch: Spring 14) and Md. Ahsanul Hasan (Batch: Summer 14). The students performed brilliantly in the contest.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) and Computer Club of Britannia University (BU) jointly arranged third Intra-University Programming Contest on 10 January 2017 at Britannia University campus. Eighteen participants from eleven semester of the Department of CSE took part in the contest. Among the participants, three had been bestowed with prizes and all participants were awarded with certificates. Md. Mahamudul Haque secured the first position, Md. Omar Khasru, the second position, and Md. Jubaer Ahmed secured the third position. Mr. Mozammel Haque, Lecturer of the Department of CSE worked as the Judgein the contest. Vice Chancellor of Britannia University, Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar was the Chief Guest in prize giving ceremony, Professor Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya, Club Coordinator and Dean, School of Business and Sayed Shafiqul Haque, Director of Administration were present as Special Guests. The program was chaired by Abdus Sattar, Chairman of the Department of CSE. The program was anchored by Ayesha Syddika (first batch student) of the Department.

Department of Computer Science & Engineering organized a Freshers Reception Program for 12th batch students at BU auditorium on 14 March 2017.Honorable Vice Chancellor of Britannia University, Prof. Dr. Md. AbdusSattar was the Chief Guest and Chairman of CSEBU, Mr. Abdus Sattar presided over the event.Prof. Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean & Chairman School of Business), Dr. Anwar Jahid (Registrar, BU). Syed Shafiqul Hoque (Director, Administration), and Mr. Abdur Rashid (Chairman, Department of English) also attended the event as special guests.At the very beginning of the program, the Department received the freshers with flowers. The event included speeches from honorable guests,current and former students of the Department. In the second session, there was a cultural program having various cultural events .The whole program was coordinated by CSE Spring 15th batch students.

As a part of Vision 2021: Digital Bangladesh, the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh approved a project titled “Learning and Earning Development Project” to be implemented by the ICT Division of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. The Department of Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) of BU arranged a project seminar at Britannia University on 11th December, 2016. Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar inaugurated the program as the Chief Guest.Mr. Rupali Mandal, UNO, Comilla Sadar (South) chaired the program. Among others, Mr. Hossain Al Mamun, project coordinator of Learning and Earning Development Project, ICT division at Comilla Region and Mr. Abdus Sattar, Chairman, Department of Computer Science & Engineering were present in the seminar. The specific objectives of the project were to train and develop the students as skilled manpower, to be freelancers in the IT/ICT sector, to expose outsourcing capabilities in IT/ICT era into global market leading, tocreate new job facilities in the global market, to improve national awareness at all levels, and to create master trainers in freelancing area to disseminate the training program in all levels.

EATL-Prothom Alo Apps Contest Motivating Seminar, sponsored by The World Bank and Canada was held at Britannia University campus on 2 August 2016. Ethics Advance Technology Limited (EATL) arranged the seminar with the cooperation of the Department of Computer Science & Engineering and Computer Club, Britannia University. Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar inaugurated the function as the

Chief Guest. In his speech he praised the role of the teachers and students of the Department and expressed his gratitude to EATL and Prothom Alo for the initiative. Mr. Dipu Richard Palma, Manager of EATL discussed the details of the contest, the purpose of the contest, and instructed the participants how to compete the contest. Mr. Abdus Sattar, Chairman, Department of Computer Science & Engineering was present in the seminar. He

encouraged students to develop new apps not only for mere participation but also to contribute to the welfare of the country. Department of English, Britannia University arranged a seminar on ‘Origin, Development and Features of Theater of Absurd’ on 21 December 2016. The seminar started with the welcome speech of Mr. Md. Tariqul Alam (Sr. lecturer in English, BU). Later on, students from first and second batches presented their papers on ‘Theatre of Absurd’. Md. Zainal Abedin, (2nd batch student of the Department) presented his paper ‘History of the Development of Theatre (from Greek to Modern)’, Md. Milan Miah (1st batch) presented his paper ‘Differences between the Absurd plays and those of others', Sharmin Nasrin (1st batch) presented her paper ‘Definition, Origin and Features of Absurd Plays’ and Md. Abu Yousuf, another student of 2nd batch presented his paper, ‘Examples, Character Analysis and Meaning of Absurd Plays’. After the presentation

session, there was a question answer session for the students followed by a discussion session by Md. Abdur Rashid, Asst. Professor and Chairman of

E n g l i s h Department. The sole discussant focused on origin, development and the significance of Absurd Plays in the field of English Literature. In the second session, the audience listened to the speeches

from Mr. M.C. Baral (Registrar, BU), Professor Dr. Surajit Sarbabidya (Dean, School of Business) and from Professor Md. Matiur Rahman (Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences) the Chair of the seminar. Among others, Syed Shafiqul Hoque (Director, Administration, BU), all faculty members and students of English Department were present. The whole session was anchored by Sabrina Mannan (Sr. Lecturer in English) and Kiswar Zereen (Lecturer in English).

Dissertation defense of the 1st batch students of BA (Hons) in English was held on 19 May 2017. The Academic Committee of the Department of English, chaired by Prof. Md. Matiur Rahman, Dean, School of Arts and Social Science conducted the defense. In that session the students of 2nd and 3rd batch along with all faculty members of English Department were present. The 1st batch students one by one presented their dissertations highlighting the Objectives of their Research, Literature Review, Research Methodology, Discussion and Findings. Each researcher got 15 minutes to present his research work and got extra 5 minutes for question answer session. All the researchers have presented and managed the defense session with confidence and got high appreciation from the Academic Committee.

The Department of English, Britannia University arranged ‘Study Visit 2016’ at Sonargaon on 02 September 2016. A total of 152 students from graduate and undergraduate programs along with 6 faculty members participated in the visit. Though it was a rainy day, the participants successfully started the journey towards Sonargaon, a historical city of Bangladesh. Three luxurious buses were hired for the tour. The participants enjoyed very much inside the buses during the time of the journey towards the spot. The buses reached the picnic spot at 1.00 pm. Having reached there, they took their lunch and then started visiting the Lok Shilpa Jadughar of Sonargaon where they saw many beautiful and artistic ancient things. After the completion of visiting the museum, all participated in a cultural program organized and performed by the students and teachers of the Department. Some of the students and teachers performed different cultural events like singing, reciting poem etc. Some of the students also staged a short drama there. And finally the memorable visit ended observing various historical places and knowing various information about our past history. It was a one day tour and many of the participants commented later on that they would never forget such memories, visiting the historical city Sonargaon.

Britannia University arranged a five daylong study tour at Cox’s Bazar, Inani, Himchori and Saint Martin. The Raffle Draw and Prize Giving Ceremony were also the part of that tour. But because of the shortage of time and hectic schedule during the tour it was not possible then to arrange such programs. So, after returning from the tour, the Raffle Draw and Prize Giving Ceremony were arranged on 7 March 2017. Newly joined honorable Registrar, Dr. S.J. Anwar Zahid was the Chief Guest of the program. All faculty members of English Department along with the Dean, School of Arts and Social Science and Dean, School of Business were present in the program. An amazing slide show was presented by the students captured the sweet memories of the study tour. Five prizes of Raffle Draw were distributed among the students by the honorable guests. In the second session of the program

two bouquets were presented to Md. Abdur Rashid, Chairman, Department of English by the students and faculty members as a token of love and compliment for his dedication, contribution and successful completion of first year as the chairman of English Department.

English Department celebrated the commencement of the New Year 2017 with a colorful program at BU on 1 January 2017. Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar was the Chief Guest of the program. All faculty members of English Department along with the Dean, School of Arts and Social Science and Dean, School of Business were present in the program. The program started with a welcome speech from a student and then some of the students and faculty members shared their views, ideas and feelings regarding the New Year celebration culture in different countries. In the short speech honorable Vice Chancellor expressed his sheer thrilling on the celebration program arranged by the English Department. There was also a musical session where students as well as some faculty members participated. The program was ended with the cutting of a cake by honorable Vice Chancellor.

English Department celebrated Valentine’s Day with a colorful program at BU on 14 February 2017. The program was hosted by the students of 6th Batch (Spring 2015). Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. All faculty members of English Department, Dean School of Arts and Social Science and Dean, School of Business were present in the program. It was the first of its kind in the university. The program started with the welcome speech and then some of the students shared their views, ideas, feelings and experience about their journey with the Department. In their recollection the thrilling memories of the first day at the Department was at the pivotal point. A slide show introduced all the students of the 6th batch to the audience. Another nice slide show had been presented representing picturesque photographs of different occasions they had attended during their two years program. A short drama on the impacts of taking bribe and watching the serials of other countries was also presented to criticize how those are responsible for the degradation of our society. In another session four faculty members delivered their short speeches on the significance of the Valentine’s Day. There was also a musical session where students as well as some faculty members participated. The whole program came to an end with the cutting of cake by honorable Vice Chancellor.

DEPARTMENT OF LAW

The Department of Law organized a day-long workshop on Environmental Law at Lalmai Hill on 10 May 2017. It was organized by the students of 3rd and 4th batches of the Department of Law aiming at gathering practical knowledge regarding impacts of hill cutting on environment. More than 30 students of the aforementioned two batches participated in the workshop. Among the faculty members, Mr. Md. Milan Hossain (Associate Professor and Dean, School of Law), Mr. Md. Saddam Hossen (Lecturer, School of Law & Course Instructor, Law of Environment) and Asma Akter (Lecturer, School of Law) were present. The students reached Lalmai at about 10 am. At first they visited different parts of Lalmai Hill which had been cutting by the land grabbers for long time. The students were very interested in participating to such kind of workshop and they gathered a lot of information and experience regarding the issue. Later on the students submitted their reports on the subject matter of the workshop to the Department.

The Department of Law, Britannia University organized a Semester Ending Meeting on 25 January 2017 with the students, at University campus to identify the problems what they had faced in the ending semester and to promote good relationship among the students and faculty members. The students from each batch gave their valuable opinions and placed

their problems on different issues particularly demanding the facility of borrowing books at home from the University Library, photo copy service at library and demanding more workshops for their development. All the faculty members of School of Law were present in the program. The program was presided over by Md. Milan Hossain,

Dean and Chair, School of Law.

A new moot court was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Md. Abdus Sattar, honorable Vice Chancellor of the University on 16 May 2017. The court was a dummy one which was nearly similar to the real courts of Bangladesh. Among others, Mr. Siddiqur Rahman, (Honorable BoT member), Dr. S. J. Anwar Jahid (Registrar, BU ) were present as Special Guests Md. Milan Hossain, Dean and Chairman of the Department of law conducted the session as session chair. Honorable Vice Chancellor gave full credit to the Department and he inspired the students for their better future. He desired that the students of the Department will ensure their benchmark in the law field of Bangladesh in near future. One of the BOT members and Registrar also inspired the students and promised that BU would provide every possible tool for the betterment of the students. After completion of the first part of the program, a mock trial was performed by the students of the 1st

and 2nd batches of the Department. Students tried their utmost to do well in that mock trail. All the guests of that program gave full credit to the performing students and they gave importance for the practical experience to the students.

Md. Abdur Rashid [Asst. Professor & Chairman, Dept. of English] attended BELTA National Conference 2016 on 22 October 2016, Venue: Chittagong. The motto of the conference was - Empowering the English Language Teachers. Abul Momen , renowned columnist and journalist was present as the Chief Guest and Prof. Dr. Gulam Faruk was present as the Special Guest. The discussants focused on the various limitations of L2 (Second Language) learning and teaching scenario in our country and recommended some pragmatic suggestions to overcome such limitations.
