Funeral services were held Tues., March 11, 2014 at the Chaney-Reager Funeral Home Betty Lorraine Bock, 75 of Sterling, was born Dec. 31, 1938 and died Sun., March 9, 2014 in Sterling. A Celebration of Life will be held Thurs., March 13, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Chaney-Reager Funeral home, with services concluding at the funeral home. Memorials in Mrs. Bock’s honor may be made to the American Lung Association. Betty was born in Sterling to Clifford Glen Simmerman and Evelyn Pearl Mason. Betty was a lifetime area resident and attended Sauders and Padroni schools. She married Harold A. Bock Jan. 3, 1955 in Padroni. Mrs. Bock worked at G.W. Sugar from 1976 until 1985 as factory manager’s clerk, then went to work at Leon Larson Motors from 1985 until she retired as bookkeeper and secretary. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Bock who passed away on Nov. 26, 1985; sister Ruth Cuthbert and son Darrell Bock. Mrs. Bock is survived by her son Allen Bock and wife Kimberly of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter Peggy Robinson and husband Scott of Nixa, Mo.; other family members Harold Scheck of Sterling, Trina Magnusson and husband Tom of Sterling and Candice Magnusson and Dallas Magnusson; best companions Annie and Sammie; grandchildren Callie Kacvinsky and husband Carl, Emily Bock and Daniel Bock, all of Lincoln, Neb., Kyle Robinson of Tucson, Ariz. and Alek Robinson of Nixa, Mo. Mrs. Lorenzini is survived by her son John F. Lorenzini of Sterling; daughter Cyndy O’Neal of Pavillion, Wyo.; sister Armella Doyle of Thornton; brothers Cornelius Gassman of Lewellen, Neb., Ralph Gassman of Hudson, LeRoy Gassman of Brush, Marvin John Gassman of Brush, Gerald Gassman of Henderson, 6 grandchildren and 8 great- grandchildren. Janice L. Piper A beautiful spirit and kind soul, Janice Lucille Piper, was welcomed home to the Lord on Thurs., March 6, 2014. A celebration of her life will be held on her birthday, Mon., April 14, 2014 at 11 a.m., at the Faith United Methodist Church in Sterling. Memorials in Mrs. Piper's honor may be made to Faith United Methodist Church, 230 Williams Place, Sterling, CO 80751. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Jim, her daughters Michelle Hayes (Bob), Kimmerly Piper-Aiken, son Jay (Pam), and nephews Lynn (Edna), Dale (Dena), and Gary (Wendy) Dunning. Mrs. Piper is remembered as being a selfless, tireless mom who encouraged those around her to excel in everything from education and music, to drama and sports. Born in Vroman, Colo., on April 14, 1936, she was raised in Rocky Ford and graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1954. During high school, she met her soul mate, “Jeep,” and they were married on Feb. 6, 1955. They lived in Boulder, Fort Collins and Anton, before moving to Sterling in 1968. She was Registrar of North- eastern Junior College (NJC) before retiring. She enjoyed caring for her grand- children and great grandchildren, along with her mother, Cleo Gettel. Travelling to Australia, Hawaii, Canada and across the U.S. with Jim gave her great joy. She taught Sunday School at Faith United Methodist Church. She was an amazing seamstress and loved creating and designing gorgeous computer-generated cards and program books. Janice was a gracious hostess and enjoyed entertaining in their home. Holidays were always very special occasions for her family. “Jan” was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and served in many leadership roles. In later years, Janice was an active member in the Red Hat Society and Readers Club. Her legacy of love will be passed on to her grandchildren: Cory Leicester, Penney (Zach) Stephen, Kaley (Jason) Zeisel, Brandon Aiken, Lucas and Emily Piper along with great grandchildren: Alaina Aiken O’Connell, Jacey, Jayla, and Joslyn Zeisel, Emma and Henry Stephen. She was preceded in death by her sisters Jeannie (Eddie) Dunning and Verlea (Delbert) Bainum and her brother Ronnie (Marilyn) Gettel. Janice is survived by her brother Oliver (Belinda- deceased) Gettel. Chaney-Reager Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Janice L.
