The research programme
1.How policies, processes and mechanisms need to change in order to enable OA publication of monographs?
2.What are the measurable effects of a move to OA monographs?
3.How do perceptions of OA monograph publication change among participants during the project?

Librarians supporting researchers
• Keep on purchasing P & E monographs – there is still a strong reliance on library provided monos, especially for Phd and lecturers
• Promote awareness of OA as an option for publishing monographs & what the various models are – esp with senior lecturers
• Integrate with the DOAB & highlighting its existence to researchers – they are QA publishers
• Make sure that the voices of HSS researchers are heard and supported in the race for Gold OA fees
Librarians supporting researchers
• Provide researchers with support materials, info sessions on copyright
• Explain to researchers what the different CC licenses are and providing support
• Help authors deposit their OA books in repositories and raise awareness within the community
• Help authors understand usage of their books • Provide ideas on how to use social media to promote
their books• Experiment with new models / publishers – OAPEN,
Knowledge Unlatched, OpenEditions, OpenBooksPublishers
Publishers supporting researchers
• Talk to your authors about OA and what they want• Think about your licensing arrangements and especially CC
licence options that you offer – how can you best your authors’ needs?
• Consider engaging with publishers / initiatives experimenting in this arena (e.g. OAPEN, Knowledge Unlatched) so that you can offer viable OA models to researchers with less of a risk to you (as there's clearly an interest)
• Express better what you are doing and your value add to the publishing process as researchers don't necessarily value everything you do and are likely to get more demanding when they, rather than their libraries, are paying for the research to get out there!
• Continue to offer both print and electronic and work with librarians to raise awareness of your OA offering
