SPRING 2014 | April 2, 2014
Myrtle’s Message
Quality Jobs & Workforce Development “Workforce Development is about getting people the right skills for the right jobs at the right time.” - Anonymous
Quality Jobs and Workforce Development are top
priorities for me. I’m connecting Fourth Council District residents with job opportunities on my
weekly job board but my commitment doesn’t stop there. I am also Vice Chair of the San
Diego Workforce Partnership’s San Diego
Consortium Policy Board.
The San Diego Consortium Policy Board
determines the final approval of funding
initiatives, objectives, and policy. Our focus is on maximizing stewardship and our priority is to
distribute funds in the most accountable, effective, and transparent manner. We work to get people the right skills for the right jobs at the right time!
San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP) funds programs that provide eligible youth with work experience and work readiness. SDWP also funds job training programs that enable eligible
adults to develop the skills and knowledge needed to meet the needs of regional employers. Their network of career centers and community partners assist eligible job seekers with job
training. One of these premier career centers is in the Fourth Council District. The South Metro
Career Center located at 4389 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113.

CIVIL PENALTY NOTICE AND ORDER | This notice was issued for a property on Imperial
Avenue that is in violation of the San Diego Municipal Code by failing to obtain the required permits
and approvals for construction work. Civil Penalties are assessed at a daily rate not-to-exceed $2,500
per day per violation and a total maximum of $250,000 per parcel. Code enforcement helps to keep
our neighborhoods clean and safe.
Councilmember Cole will be addressing issues of importance to the Fourth Council District and
answering constituent questions at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Democratic Club on Saturday, April 12th
at Noon | Malcolm X Library, 5148 Market Street, San Diego, CA 92114.
Thank You Councilmember Cole
“Thank you and your staff for going the extra mile for Ms. Stuckey and helping to replace her stolen trash can. We do live in the greatest City in the Country.” – James Alston
“I thank you so very much for being able to follow through on this issue in order to obtain something of consequence in a relatively quick time frame. You have succeeded where others could not and for this you are to be commended.” - Jim Simon
NEWS | In celebration of Women’s History Month, Councilmember Cole addressed a standing room
only crowd of Navy men and women aboard the USS Greenbay. Captain Huffman welcomed
Councilmember Cole aboard the vessel as the first community leader to speak to the crew of over
400. Councilmember Cole eloquently shared her personal journey to her now historic seat as the first
African American woman to serve on the San Diego City Council.
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am
learning how to sail my ship.”
