GENERAL SPECIFICATION
Forestry Commission Practice Note 8.All native species should be of local stock. Native trees and shrubs certified as British Native plant stock. All planting stock should comply with the Horticulture Trade Association Plant specification. All plantingpreparation, handling, planting and maintenance should be in accordance with the national national plant specification handling and establishing .
STANDARDS: All trees and shrubs to comply with BS 3936 Part 1, planting to be in accordance with BS8545;2014 (trees) and BS 4428:1989 (general landscape). Topsoil to comply with BS3882: 2015
Topsoil incorporated into the planting beds to be gently mounded towards the center of each bed to allow for settlement. On completion of planting the whole area of the shrub bed shall be mulched with75mm consolidation thickness of medium textured decorative grade natural pine bark having first been prepared in accordance with the specification.
All existing trees and hedges to be protected in accordance with BS 5837:2012 for the duration of the construction period.
All planting, seeding and turfing shall be carried out in the first planting and seeding season following the completion of the development.Any trees, shrubs or plants which are removed, die or become damaged or become diseased within five years of planting shall be replaced within the next planting by trees, shrubs of the same size and species.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULEGeneral Grass Areas
1. Nature strips are levelled, free of rock, rubbish and weeds
2. Park and reserve area are seeded, turfed or sprigged.
3. All seed is germinated and showing an even coverage with no bare patches and no areas of weed.
4. The grass is at least second cut.
5. Grassed area is free of pests, diseases and weeds.
6. Where minimal landscaping is required are graded, free of weed, rock and debris
7. Top soil has been applied and the area seeded to Council satisfaction.
Garden Beds
1. Garden beds are kept in neat order and free of litter.
2 Garden beds are kept free of weeds, or any small weeds have been sprayed.
3. Garden bed edges are clearly defined.
4. Any edging material between garden bed and path does not encroach onto path.
5. Any dead, diseased or missing plants have been replaced.
6. All shrubs and groundcovers are displaying healthy and vigorous growth.
7. Mulch is to a minimum 75mm deep and covers whole garden bed.
Trees
1. Trees are securely staked with three stakes and flexible ties,
2. Trees are correctly planted with top of root ball even with surrounding ground.
3. All trees have a mulched ring at least 1.2m in diameter and 150mm in depth. The mulch is clear of the trunk of the tree.
4. All bowls at the base of the trees are well formed, free of weeds and allow for maximum water retention.
5. Any dead, diseased or severely vandalized trees have been replaced.
6. All weeds and suckering material have been removed.
7. All trees have a single straight leader. Trees will not be accepted with multiple leaders.
8. Trees are planted at correct offset distances, as specified.
9. IN ADDITION FOR A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS POST PLANTING ALL TREES WILL
- HAVE ANY STAKES AND TIES REMOVED- BE REGULARLY WATERED AND WEEDED- BE PROPERLY PRUNED BY A TREE ARBORIST- BE RE-MULCHED AS REQUIRED WITH PREMIUM MULCH
TURFING
Praparation: All topsoil areas are to be reduced to a fine, firm tilth with good crumb structure. Raked to atrue, even surface, friable and lightly firmed but not over compacted.Turf: All lawn areas are to be laid with cultivated turf. Laid within 48 hours of delivery and avoid layingwhen persistent cold or drying winds are likely to occur, or soild is frostbound, waterlogged or excessivelydry.Turf to be laid off planks on previously laid turf with broken joints, well butted up.All nawly laid turf to be thoroughly wateres immediately after laying.
SOFT LANDSCAPINGGeneral: the existing soild and any imported required for the completion of the works is to be subject toa topsoil analysis with any required amelioration carried out.Topsoil depths: shrub planting 450mm, lawns: 150mm
General: All plant stock to conform to standards set out in the National Plant Specification, to be sturdy,healthy and vogorous, of good shape and without elongated shoots: grown in a suitable environmentand hardened off: free from pests, diseases, discoloration, weeds and physiological disorders, haeve abalanced branch system and be true to name.
Plant handling , storage and transportation: to accord with HTA ' Handling and Establishing LandscapePlants'.Preparation of planting beds: prior to planting, all topsoil; to be dug over to a depth of 150mm within 2-3days prior to planting when weather and ground is suitably dry. Leave reqular and even and level25mm above adjoining paving and kerbs.Remove all visible weeds, roots and large stones with any dimension exceeding 50mm.
Mulching: all shrub areas to be mulched witrh ornamental bark mulch to a depth of 75mm.Finished level of mulching to be 30mm below adjacent grassed or planted areas and all plnts to bewatered to soil field capacity prior to mulching.
