An interagency, web-based system that provides decision support tools and fire spread models, supporting decision documentation to assist fire managers and agency administrators in making strategic decisions for all federal wildland fire incidents.

GIS and WFDSS• If you do not have a WFDSS account request
an account as a “Viewer”. This will give you read access to WFDSS. Non-Fed Government employees will have to take USFS IT Security Training- Geographic Area (GA) Editor can sponsor state users.
• Incident data can be downloaded in KMZ or shapefile format including any perimeters that are in the system.
GIS and WFDSS• As in the past you will be asked to support FBAN’s, LTAN’s,
and other staff who use WFDSS to accomplish their work instead of desktop software. Be prepared to support with files such as Fuels, Physical Geography, Fuel Treatments, Perimeters, Barriers (Dozer line), etc.
• When providing IR perimeters for upload to WFDSS, it is best to separate hotspot data from incident perimeters into separate, clearly named zip files. WFDSS users should upload hotspots as ignition sources, and perimeters as perimeters.
• Requests for data for use in WFDSS may also come from Agency Administrators; they are the primary user and customer.

SOP – Chapter 7 - Data Archiving and Sharing
• Specifications state: The primary datasets that need to be shared on a daily basis are the fire perimeter and fireline data layers.
• Post these data on a designated ftp site (e.g., ftp://ftp.nifc.gov) or Web site.
