In addition to its direct services to Cartagena and Barranquilla (both located at Mexican Gulf) and Buenaventura (Pacific) SACO Shipping offers a fourth direct service to the Colombian capital Bogota since June 1st, 2017.
Direct only: SACO Shipping and South America
SACO’s South America services at a glance · 24 direct export
services · Only NVOCC offering
direct services to Arica, Barranquilla, Bogota, Buenaventura, La Guaira and Puerto Cabello
· 40+ trans-shipment services
· 7 direct import services ex Buenos Aires, Callao, Cartage-na, Guayaquil, Montevideo, Santos and Valparaiso
We may be familiar with the six biggest
metropolises but only when looking at a
map we realise that just two of them are
coastal cities: Rio de Janeiro (11.8 mil-
lion inhabitants) at the Atlantic Ocean
and Buenos Aires (14.3 million) at the
Rio de la Plata. Lima (10.9 million) and
the Pacific port of Callao are some ten
kilometres apart, whereas the distance
between Sao Paulo (20.6 million) and the
port of Santos is approximately 60 kilo-
metres. The ports of Valparaiso and San
Antonio are some 125 and 80 kilometres
respectively away from Santiago (6.3
million). From the Colombian capital
Bogota (9.5 million) one has to drive
about 1,100 kilometres to get to the port
of Cartagena.
Brazil’s official language is Portuguese
whereas Spanish is the dominant lan-
guage in the other twelve South Ameri-
can countries – making communication
a bit easier. Just to compare: The Euro-
pean Union with its currently 28 member
states has 24 official languages.
Geographically South America is so distant from Europe that apart from tourist attractions like Rio de Janeiro’s sugarloaf mountain, Lake Titicaca and the ruins of Machu Piccu we in fact know very little about the fourth biggest continent and its 418 million people.
As shipments no longer have to be unloaded in Cartagena transit times will be faster
and rates more competitive. Boxes will be transported in bond with trucks to Bogota
Zona Franca, Calle 13. Importers benefit in two ways: Firstly, there is a five-year
deadline for customs clearance and secondly, goods can be cleared in parts.

With pride and joy SACO GROUPAIR Brussels recently published
good news for the company and its customers: In June SACO
GROUPAIR Brussels moved to a new warehouse in the cargo area of
Brussels’ airport. Managing Director Wim Sterckx and his team of 20
employees now operate a 4,000 square metres “state-of-the-art”
warehouse. As the office space measures approximately 900 square
metres, parts of it will be sublet to customers allowing them to open
own offices.
The icing on the cake: Forwarders who are not represented at the air-
port are offered to open virtual offices to gain access to SACO
GROUPAIR’s wide range of network services.
SACO GROUPAIR’s main competitive advantage is its strict neutrali-
ty, says Wim Sterckx. Being a member of AirCargoGroup, the leading
alliance of neutral airfreight wholesalers, SACO GROUPAIR can offer
logistic services at over 200 airports in 60 countries. “If you want to
find out more, just give us a call or pop in to say ‘hello’. By the way: In
Brussels we have lots of great food, gorgeous chocolate and probably
the best beer in the universe.”
