She thought I would help out with the kids who were at- tending camp with ostomies. What a fabulous experience. I met Reid Nishi- kawa, a Pharmacist from Nutrishare who was there to lend a hand and volunteer with setting up TPN and tube feeds for many of the kids attending that camp session. It was an eye opener for all of the volunteers to participate in the 24/7 routine that parents maintain to keep their children with medical challenges healthy and at home. COBRA and Disability Extension of Coverage If an individual is entitled to COBRA continuation coverage because of a termination of employment or reduction in hours of employ-ment, the plan generally makes continuation of coverage available for 18 months. However, if the individual is disabled (as determined by the Social Security Act) and satisfies the applicable notice requirements, the plan must provide COBRA continuation coverage for 29 months. This extension of coverage also applies to non-disabled family members. If you are eligible for COBRA and are disabled, make certain that you notify the COBRA administrator of your disability within the required time frame.

Contact us if you have any questions or require assistance with COBRA cover-age or any insurance issues.

Hello all!I have been working for Nutrishare for 11 years as an Executive Assistant to Dr. Thomas Diamantidis out of Northridge, CA. My job is to assist Tom in a broad spec-trum of administrative tasks and help out with the Educational Conferences where I can. Tom has been a very warm and car-ing boss, I could not ask for better. Tom and Rod make Nutrishare a pleasure to work for and it is very rewarding to see the positive influence and the many ways they have enhanced the lives of Nutrishare Family consumers. In my personal life I have a great family. I have been married for 30 years to Peter who is semi-retired. We have two beauti-ful daughters who keep my life interesting. Gina and Elena are 24 and 22 years old. We also have a stepdaughter Janelle, who works in corporate for Levi Strauss. She has been married to Chip for 12 years and has 2 children (our grandchildren), Henry and Eva. They live in San Mateo and we do not get to see them often enough. My hobby is oil painting, all subject matter. Here is a painting of a little boy that I did for my Mom. Painting gives me a lot of joy and relaxation. I bowl on the church bowling league and am a mem-ber of the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. I volunteer with their women’s organization, Philoptochos (which means friend of the poor). I am co-chair of Dress for Success. We collect clothing for wom-en in shelters so they can get jobs and be ‘dressed for success’. I need more time to paint, but things are great - thank God.

Nutrition Week . . . Nutrishare clinicians attended Clinical Nutrition Week (CNW) January 21 - 24, 2012 in Orlando, Florida. The American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN) develops and plans the yearly CNW. Since 1976, ASPEN has been dedicated to improving patient care by advancing the science and practice of nutrition support therapy.

In keeping with Nutrishare’s high standard of providing our consumers with up to date, evidence-based nutrition support therapy, attendance to CNW helps us to stay current with the latest research as well as new and upcoming tech-nologies. Nutrishare clinicians also get the opportunity to network with na-tional and international experts in clinical nutrition.

As active ASPEN members, Nutrishare clinicians participate at ASPEN meet-ings as speakers, poster presenters and committee members. This year at CNW, Nutrishare’s following research posters were accepted by ASPEN and were included in the event... Jody’s Notes

In January, Senator Amy Klobuchar held a Health Forum in Edina, MN to address the current shortages of medications and

the “pay-for-delay” of new generic drugs. She has introduced legislation that would require faster notification by drug companies when shortages are going to occur. This would allow time to either find other companies to produce the drug or get them from Europe or Canada. Another participant was Jon Lei-bowittz, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission. The FTC is looking into the legality of a brand name drug company paying a generic drug company to keep their drug off the market. Because generics cost approximately 15% of a name brand drug, this is a very bad deal for consumers.
