NUTRACEUTICALS

The term Nutraceuticals combine with the term nutrient means a food or food particle and pharmaceuticals that is a medical drug a nutraceutical is a food with medical health and benefit that includes the prevention and treatment of diseases.

History

The term Nutraceutical was discover from nutrition & pharmaceuticals in 1989 by Stephen DeFeliceGreek Physician HippocratesThe nutraceutical industry inside us is about 86 billion Dollars this figure is slightly higher in Europe and japan approximately a quarter of 6 billion Dollars total annual food sales.47% of the JapaneseThe Indians Egyptians Chinease and Sumerians are few cicilizations that provide evidence that suggest that foods can be use as a medicine to treat and prevent dieases and enhance productivity of animals

Continous

The modern nutraceutical industry began to develop in japan in the 1980s.in contrast to the natural herbs and spices used as folk medicine for centries throught asia. The nutraceutical industry has grown alongside the expansion of modern technology.

Analysis of food limited to:

(i)Flavor

(ii)Taste

(iii)Texture of food and its nutritional values and compsosition of following thingsCarbohydrates. Fats .Proteins .Water. Fats. MineralsExamples of the nutraceuticals chemicals includes probiotics, antioxidents phytochemicalsNutraceuticals are consider as alternative medicine for many years.

Compound and risk of disease in animals

Potassium high pressure and stroke cause high blood in animalsPlant& sterol ester cause coronary diseasesSoya protein cause also coronary heart diseasesFiber containing grains that cause cancerDietary sugar alcohol cause dental cavities.

Classification of nutraceuticals:

The food or food products that are use as nutraceutical contain following except pro-bioticAntioxidantPre-bioticOmega free fatty acidsDietary fiber

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are substances which prevent the body from free radicals. They stabilize the free radicals Zink and some vitamins are examples of antioxidantsAntioxidants are present in canola oil corn oil oat oil wheat germ

Pro-biotic

They are live microbial food ingredients which are beneficial to health500 different microbial species

LactobacillusEnhance rumen functions

Page 11: nutraceutical in animal feeding-ppt

11

Pre-biotic

They are substances which are given to animals and beneficial for microbial growth in intestine and normal digestion processInsulin which is soluble dietary fibers and resistant to digestive enzyme and thus reaches to large intestine or colon essentially intact where it is fermented by resistant bacteria LactobacillusInline is example of pre-biotic that is soluble dietary fiber and that resist the digestive enzymes that increase digestion

MINRALS

Calcium:

Essential for bone growth and teeth

Iron Energy productionMagnesium

For healthy muscle and nerve formationPhosphorous

Energy production bone strength and imp for production of energyCobalt

Component of vitamin B-12 &its coenzymes

Continous….

Iodine

Proper function of thyroid glandChromium

Convert carbohydrates and fat into energy with the help of insulinSelenium

Antioxidant and part of GPX enzymeZink

Help in wound healing and Neonates body organ formation and cell reproduction

Herbs

Aloe-Vera

Anti inflammatory and help in wound healingGarlic

Anti bacterial anti inflammatory effectsGinger

Carminative antiemetic also cure dizzinessGinseng

Antioxidant and enhance humor and cell mediated immunity

Various phytochemicals

Toco-trienols & toco-pherolsCarotenoids are use as a oxidants and present in cropsPhytosterols present in various plants and decrease cholesterolIso-flavonaoids presnt in soya beans and anti treating in natureFiber present in some crops and protects against colorectal diseasesThese are following nutraceuticals that are modulate rumen fermentation in ruminants

Page 16: nutraceutical in animal feeding-ppt

16

Continous

Plant extracts that are garlic yucca oregano mint cinnamon

Fat burning substances (L-carnithine organic trivalent chromium omega-3-fatty acids .The affect of saponins and tannins on rumen and microbial activity as fallowBreakdown of dietary proteinGarlic oil and benzyl salicylate reduced the acetate and increased the propionate and butyrate proportions which is an antimethanogenic effect

Page 17: nutraceutical in animal feeding-ppt

17

Continous

Cade oil, capsicum oi, and ginger oil resulted in small effects on rumen microbial fermentation probably related to their low content in oxygen High doses of fenugreek resulted in reductions in ammonia concentrations of 19.2 and 39.1% respectively to hydrocarbonsCareful selection and combination of these additives may allow the enhance of rumen microbial fermentationTheir efficacy requires determination of potential ruminal adaptation in long-term in vivo feeding conditions

Applications of NutraceuticalsClass & component and benifit

Source Potention

Beta-carotene damage Carrots Neutralizes free radicals, which may cells; bolsters cellular antioxidant defenses

lycopene Maintain prostate health

Monosaturated fatty acids

Soya beans-soya based foods

May reduce cronory heart attack

Sugar alcohols Reduce risk of dental carrires

Lactobasili intestine

SUMMARY

Nutraceuticals present in most of the food ingredients with varying concentration Concentration time and duration of supply of nutraceuticals influence animal healthManipulating the foods, the concentration of active ingredients Diet rich in nutraceuticals along with regular exercise, stress reduction and maintenance of Healthy body weight will maximise health and reduce disease risk

………..

Changes in the diet to get maximum level of active componentsCombination of food ingredients rich in nutraceuticals Mixing of food with active ingredientsChanging food types to natural type of diet Fiber present in some crops and protects against colorectal diseasesAntioxidant and enhance humor and cell mediated immunityThey are live microbial food ingredients which are beneficial to health

…….

Nutraceuticals neutralize the free radicals by giving them electrons and stable to theNutraceuticals are important for prostate healthHerbs are also use as antioxidantsPre-biotic are those substances are offer to animals and the help to rumen microbeFiber content in crops also help full for cure of many diseases

Some nutraceuticals use as to control blood glucose level
