SNU nursing students have opportunities to be in an Extern Program in regional medical facilities between their junior and senior years. Students have the opportunity in their leadership class to work with a preceptor in a nursing setting. Sharpened clinical reasoning skills give an increased depth to learning in preparation for working as a registered nurse.

Consider taking your nursing talent to a third world country by joining one of several overseas trips over Christmas Break, Spring Break, or Summer Break. Talk to a professor to learn more about these opportunities when you schedule your campus visit.

WITH HIGHLY-QUALIFIED PROFESSORSSNU nursing faculty are experts in their fields. You will learn from faculty with backgrounds in Neurology, Cardiology, Obstetrics, Emergency, Intensive Care, Medical-Surgical Areas, Pediatrics, Community, and Mental Health. At Southern Nazarene University you will find nursing faculty who are Certified Nurse Educators, the current President of the Oklahoma Emergency Nurses Association, CPR Instructors for theAmerican Heart Association, a House Supervisor at a regional healthcare facility, and faculty for the Nurse Extern Program at Mercy Hospital. These multi-talented faculty enjoy teaching and mentoring students. All of the faculty are members of Sigma Theta Tau, an International Honor Society with an emphasis in research. At SNU you will learn from the best.

WITH PREPARATION AFTERGRADUATION SNU nursing students are prepared to take the National Council Licensure Examination and move into the

workforce. Clinical agencies, where students work consistently, state that SNU nursing graduates are knowledgeable, compassionate, and caring registered nurses. Over the past three years, SNU nursing graduates have all found jobs within three to six months after graduation. SNU nursing graduates work in a variety of settings: cardiac, obstetrics, pediatrics, home health, emergency nursing, and many more. SNU students often return to school becoming nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, and nurse educators. Whatever your dream, you can achieve it!

Brooke Brantley, an SNU nursing graduate, has been a nurse for more than 4 years and is currently the Nurse Manager of Med/Surg at Mercy Hospital, Oklahoma City. She also serves as an adjunct faculty member.

Brooke completed her Masters in Nursing Education in December 2011 with a 4.0. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for Nursing and Mortar Board. Brantley attributes her career success to a number of factors. “I believe I am where I am today because of God, hard work, a wonderful supportive family, and the education I received at SNU. I attended SNU and played tennis during my undergraduate degree in nursing, and it’s wonderful to have the Christian education and the support of the nursing department to continue to play sports while in nursing school. The encouragement of the faculty helped me push and stretch myself, and this is largely what helped direct me to become a manager early on in my career.” says Brooke.

If a dream is a blueprint of a goal not yet achieved, at SNU we partner with you to focus your efforts to attain whatever it is you hope to accomplish. Thus, we say DREAM WITH CONFIDENCE.
