FROM THE PRINCIPAL
We have had some outstanding reports about our students
over the last couple of weeks.
Firstly our Year 7 students were quite amazing during their transition
visit to Nuriootpa High School. It was reported to us that their
behaviour was exceptional and our students stood out by how well they
carried themselves. Well done Year 7 students.
STEM OPENING
Thank you to all staff and students for their work and support in
preparing for, and on the day of our opening. This was such an
important day for our school and an opportunity for us to show the
wider community why our school is so great. I was so proud of our
student body on Friday at our STEM opening. I was so impressed by
the quiet behaviour of students and the attention they showed during
the proceedings. A number of guests also acknowledged how well
behaved students were both during the official ceremony and during
the walk around. The Years 6/7’s (Mazis/Desmond) who made a short
presentation to the adults spoke really well and demonstrated their
fantastic learning. The guests were also very impressed with the way
students responded to them during the walk around. Students had
great knowledge about what they were doing and could explain things
really well to visitors. The computing work students were sharing is
very advanced and the coding skills they were applying is well beyond
what is expected of a primary aged student. Thank you Anita for the
great computing work you have led at our school. Lawrence and Thomas
welcomed everyone to the ceremony with “Welcome to Country” and
presented a sprig of gum leaves to each guest. I found this moving.

STRIKE ACTION
At this stage we are not sure if the AEU strike action will go ahead on Thursday 29th
November, but we should know by Tuesday if our school will be closed or if we can offer a
modified learning programme in the morning. Due to the uncertainty we have decided that the
canteen will BE CLOSED if strike action goes ahead (even if we offer a modified programme).
If the strike action goes ahead, teachers will be returning to work at 12.00, when the school
will resume normal lessons.. I will let families know as soon as I can regarding the school’s
position.
2019 CLASS PLACEMENTS
Today students have visited their class for 2019. We have spent many, many, many hours
working together to place students to meet their social, emotional and academic needs. Those
parents who have contacted us with requests, we believe we have met those wishes to the
best of our ability. It is VERY UN-LIKELY that we will make any changes to these classes at
this stage. The only reason for late changes will be because of some VERY SERIOUS issues
raised that we may have overlooked. Please trust our staff in this matter and appreciate the
fact that they are very knowledgeable about their students and we make sure we place
students in a manner which works for 2019. We certainly want the best class make up possible
for 2019, so we are very careful when placing students.
BUSHFIRE READINESS
With the very dry winter we have we are very conscious of the risk of bush fires this
summer. We have already had a rehearsal with the students in case we have a bush fire
nearby during the school day. Our students will evacuate to the gym in case of a bush fire.
The gym provides us with amenities for students who could be in the area for several hours.
If there is a bush fire in the area, we ask you NOT to come to the school to collect your child
until after the bush fire has passed. It is important to keep the streets around us free from
traffic, so the CFS can have easy access to fight the fire.
It is also a good time for families to consider their own personal bushfire plans. Information
that can help you prepare a plan can be found at the South Australian Country Fire Service
website www.cfs.sa.gov.au.

COLOUR EXPLOSION RUN4FUN
Tomorrow is our Colour Explosion Run4Fun, which is one of our major fundraising events this
year. Students are invited to wear casual clothes and those who are participating will need to
bring along a white T-Shirt when doing the run. It sounds like a great day and we are looking
forward to a new type of fundraising event in our school.
PUPIL FREE DAY
Don’t forget next Monday 26th November is a Pupil Free Day. All staff members will be
working at school on that day. Teaching staff will be developing our Site Improvement Plan.
Therefore we will be examining student data and ascertaining the directions and practices we
will need to employ to move our students forward over the next three years.
OFFICE NEWS
We are currently involved in the selection process for the Finance/Business Managers role.
This process will take some weeks but we hope to be able to announce who our Finance/
Business Manager will be by the end of the term.
NEW BIKE SHED IS READY!!!
Our new bike shed is now ready for use. Students are now able to put their bikes and
scooters straight into the shed in the morning.
If students arrive early they are to wait on the grassed area opposite the bike shed and a
staff member will open the roller door at 8.30am.

Katherine, Lilian, Annika, Ahmed, Jamie, Will and Frank are all part of Robogals and Engineers without
borders. They are two not for profit student run organisiations from the University of Adelaide, aiming
to inspire kids in STEM.
On Tuesday and Wednesday this week they ran workshops for years 3 to 7 including:
