06 05 23 Wood, Plastic, and Composite Fastenings 1.0 RECOGNITION ITW BCG Construction Hardware Hangers and Anchors recognized in this report has been evaluated for connecting wood members together. The structural performance properties of the ITW BCG Construction Hardware Hangers and Anchors complies with the intent of the provisions of the following codes and regulations:
• 2012, 2009 and 2006 International Building Code® (IBC)
• 2012, 2009 and 2006 International Residential Code® (IRC)
2.0 LIMITATIONS
Use of the ITW Construction Hardware products recognized in this report is subject to the following limitations: 2.1 Products shall be manufactured, identified and installed in accordance with this report and manufacturer's installation instructions. Where conflicts occur, the more restrictive shall apply. A copy of the installation instruction shall be available at the jobsite at all times during installation. 2.2 Adjustment Factors for conditions noted in Section 3.2 of this report and applicable codes shall be considered and applied to allowable loads.
2.3 All fasteners and connected wood members shall comply with Sections 4.2.2 and 4.2.3 of this report. 2.4 Use of connector products and fasteners with fire-retardant lumber or preservative-treated lumber shall be in accordance with Section 4.2.3 and 4.2.4 of this report. 2.5 Design loads determined by a registered design professional shall be less than the allowable loads as indicted in Tables 1 through 8 of this report. 3.0 PRODUCT USE 3.1 General: ITW BCG Construction Hardware Hangers and Anchors are used for connecting wood members together in
accordance with Section 2304.9.3 of the IBC. Products may be used in structures regulated under the IRC when a design is submitted in accordance with Section R301.1.3 of the IRC. 3.2 Design: Products are designed for use in dry conditions in wood with a maximum moisture content of 19 percent (15 percent for engineered wood products), and where sustained temperatures do not exceed 100°F (37.8°C). Reductions are required for wet service installations or sustained temperatures over 100°F (37.8°C) and shall be determined in accordance with the ANSI/AF&PA NDS. Connectors in contact with fire-retardant-treated or preservative-treated lumber shall comply with IBC Section 2304.9.5 or IRC Section 319.3, as applicable. The report holder or lumber treater shall be contacted for reduced capacities and minimum corrosion resistance. 3.3 Installation: General Installation shall be in accordance with the codes in Section 1.0 of this report, this report, and the manufacturer’s installation instructions. The products in this report shall be properly installed and used in accordance with the installation instructions and design limits in this report and in the manufacturer's published installation instructions. To obtain the tabulated allowable loads in this report, all fasteners specified for attachment of the product shall be properly applied. No gaps shall occur between hanger product and wood members. A maximum of 1/8-inch (3.18 mm) gap is allowed between the supported wood member and supporting wood member after attachment of joist hangers. 4.0 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION 4.1 Product Information: 4.1.1 AGUS Joist Hanger Series: The AGUS joist hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Hangers are available in heights ranging from 51/4 to 7 inches (133 mm to 178 mm). Clear seat widths of 37/16, 3⅝ and 5 inches (87 mm, 92 mm, and 127 mm) are available to accommodate single and multiple ply supported members of various thicknesses. The seat depth of the hangers is 41/4 inches (108 mm). For AGUS joist hanger series, Table 1 and Figure 1 of this report summarize product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations.
4.1.2 AHU Joist Hanger Series: The AHU hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Hangers are available in heights ranging from 51/2 to

81/2 inches (140 mm to 216 mm). Clear seat widths of 19/16, 37/16 and 39/16 inches (40 mm, 87 mm, and 90 mm) are available to accommodate single and multi-ply supported members of various thicknesses. The seat depth of the hangers is 23/4 inches (70 mm). For AHU joist hanger series, Table 2 and Figure 2 of this report describe product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.1.3 FA Anchor Series: The FA anchor series is manufactured to attach metal plate connected trusses, framing and wall members, made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. The FA1 Anchor has a 423/32-inch (120 mm) overall height with 19/16-inch (40 mm) flanges. The FA2 Anchor has a 223/64-inch (60 mm) overall height with 19/16-inch (40 mm) flanges. The FA1 and FA2 anchors are used in pairs with one anchor applied to each face of the supported truss or joist member, and attached to the face of the supporting member. The FA1 and FA2 anchors are used singularly or in pairs to attach stud, joist or truss members to wall plates. The anchors resist vertical loads and lateral loads applied perpendicular to the supported stud, truss or joist member, and thrust loads applied perpendicular to the wall plate. For FA anchor series, Table 3 and Figure 3 of this report provide product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.1.4 LTH Joist Hanger Series: The LTH hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Hangers are available in heights of 31/8, 43/4 and 611/16 inches (80 mm, 121 mm, and 170 mm) with a clear seat width of 19/16 or 31/8 inches (40 mm or 80 mm). The seat depth of the hangers is 19/16 inches (40 mm). "Standard" fastening attachment only requires fasteners to be applied in the circular holes. "Enhanced Joist" fastening attachment requires fasteners in all the circular holes plus the triangular holes in the Joist. "Enhanced Header" fastening attachment requires fasteners in all the circular holes plus the triangular holes in the corner of the flange. "Enhanced Joist and Header" fastening requires the use of all circular and triangular holes for attachment. Triangular holes in the corner of the flange are for Enhanced fastening at an angle of 45 degrees into the Header. For LTH joist hanger series, Table 4 and Figure 4 of this report summarize product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.1.5 LEHJ End Jack and Hip Jack Series: The LEHJ hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Hanger height is 51/4 inches (133 mm). The clear seat width accommodates single ply 2 x supported members at 45 degrees and 90 degrees from the supporting member. Table 5 and Figure 5 of this report
contain product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.1.6 LDS Joist Hanger Series: The LDS hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Hangers are available in heights of 33/32, 51/32, 631/32, 85/32, 87/8 and 1013/16 inches (79 mm, 128 mm, 177 mm, 207 mm, 225 mm, and 275 mm) with clear seat widths of 19/16, 31/4, 39/16 or 47/8 inches (40 mm, 83 mm, 90 mm, or 124 mm). The seat depth of the hangers is 13/4 inches (44 mm). "Standard" fastening attachment requires fasteners to be applied in all circular holes in the supporting member, and in all supported member nail guide openings that are not marked with an “ENHANCED OPTION VERSION MEJORADA” stencil. "Enhanced Joist" fastening attachment requires fasteners to be applied in all the circular holes in the supporting member and in all nail guide openings in the supported member. Nail guide openings are for fastening at an angle of 45 degrees into the supported member. For LDS joist hanger series, Table 6 and Figure 6 of this report provide product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.1.7 MDS Joist Hanger Series: The MDS hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Hangers are available in heights of 511/16, 615/16 and 813/16 inches (144 mm, 176 mm, and 224 mm) with clear seat widths of 15/8, 31/4, 35/8, and 69/16 inches (41 mm, 83 mm, 92 mm, and 167 mm). The seat depth of the hangers is 3 inches (76 mm). Fastening attachment requires fasteners to be applied in all of the circular holes in the supporting member and in all nail guide openings in the supported member. Nail guide openings are for fastening at an angle of 45 degrees into the supported member. For the MDS joist hanger series, Table 7 and Figure 7 of this report summarize product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.1.8 STH Joist Strap Hanger Series: The STH strap hanger series is manufactured to support metal plate connected trusses, I-joists and framing members made of solid sawn or structural composite lumber. Strap hangers are available with overall heights of 825/32, 1225/32, 161/16, 175/32, 217/16, 2113/16, 2115/16, 221/16, 229/16 and 261/16 inches (223 mm, 325 mm, 408 mm, 436 mm, 545 mm, 554 mm, 557 mm, 560 mm, 573 mm, and 662 mm), with clear seat widths of 19/16, 15/8, 113/16, 29/16, 31/8, 31/4, 39/16, 35/8, 69/16 and 71/4 inches (40 mm, 41 mm, 46 mm, 65 mm, 79 mm, 83 mm, 90 mm, 92 mm, 167 mm, and 184 mm). The seat depth of the strap hangers are 13/4 and 21/8 inches (44 mm and 54 mm). Fastening attachment requires fasteners to be applied in all the circular or slotted holes in the supporting member and in the circular holes in the supported member. Slotted openings are for supported member fastening options at an angle of 45 degrees into the

supported member. For STH joist strap hanger series, Table 8 and Figure 8 of this report describe product dimensions, fastener schedule, wood species, allowable loads, and typical installations. 4.2 Materials 4.2.1 Steel: • The AGUS hanger series is manufactured from mill
certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS Grade 37, No. 12 gauge, G90 coating, with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0966 inch (2.45 mm), and Fu = 52 ksi (359 MPa).
• The AHU Hanger Series is manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS or HSLAS Grade 60, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 60 or HSLAS Grade 60 Class 2, or better; No. 18 gauge, with G90 or G185 coating, with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0428-inch (1.09 mm), and Fu = 70 ksi (483 MPa) minimum.
• The FA anchors are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 or A1063 SS Grade 37 or better, No. 18 gauge with G90 coating, with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0428 inch (1.09 mm), and Fu = 52 ksi (359 MPa).
• The LTH hanger series is manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 or A1063 SS Grade 37 or better, No. 20 gauge with G90 coating, with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0329 inch (0.836 mm), and Fu = 52 ksi (359 MPa).
• The LEHJ, STH213, STH218 and STH413 Hangers are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS Grade 40 or HSLAS Grade 50, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 40 or HSLAS Grade 45 Class 2, or better; No. 18 gauge with G90 or G185 Coating with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0418-inch (1.06 mm), Fu = 55 ksi (379 MPa) minimum.
• The LDS Hanger Series and MDS26, MDS28, MDS210, and MDS1.81/10 Hangers are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS or HSLAS Grade 60, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 60 or HSLAS Grade 60 Class 2, or better; No. 18 gauge with G90 or G185 Coating with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0423-inch (1.07 mm), Fu = 70 ksi (483 MPa) minimum.
• The STH29 and STH29-2 Hangers are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS Grade 50 Class 1 or HSLAS Grade 55 Class 2, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 50 or HSLAS Grade 50 Class 1, or better; No. 18 gauge with G90 or G185 Coating with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0428-inch (1.09 mm), Fu = 65 ksi (448 MPa) minimum.
• The STH218-2, STH222-2, STH418, STH422, STHI1.81/22, STHI222, STHI322 and STHI422 Hangers are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS Grade 37 or HSLAS
Grade 50, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 37 or HSLAS Grade 45 Class 2, or better; No. 16 gauge with G90 or G185 Coating with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0566-inch (1.44 mm), Fu = 52 ksi (359 MPa) minimum.
• The MDS26-2, MDS28-2, MDS210-2, MDS46, MDS48, MDS410, MDS26-3, MDS28-3, MDS210-3, MDS28-4 and MDS210-4 Hangers are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS Grade 50 Class 1 or HSLAS Grade 55 Class 2, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 50 or HSLAS Grade 50 Class 1, or better; No. 16 gauge with G90 or G185 Coating with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0551 inch (1.40 mm), Fu = 65 ksi (448 MPa) minimum.
• The STH426, STH422-2, STH422-2R, STH426-2 and STH426-2R Hangers are manufactured from mill certified steel coil manufactured to ASTM A653 SS Grade 50 Class 1 or HSLAS Grade 55 Class 2, or ASTM A1063 SS Grade 50 or HSLAS Grade 50 Class 1, or better; No. 16 gauge with G90 or G185 Coating with a minimum uncoated thickness of steel = 0.0565-inch (1.44 mm), Fu = 65 ksi (448 MPa) minimum.
4.2.2 Wood: Connections are designed for use with solid sawn or engineered wood products with a minimum specific gravity, as determined in accordance with the ANSI/AF&PA NDS for the species, shown in the allowable load tables. Allowable load tables in this report are for a maximum moisture content of 19 percent for solid sawn lumber and 16 percent for engineered wood products. Allowable loads are specified for a minimum of 3 inches (76 mm) total supporting member thickness for the AGUS and AHU products, and a minimum of 1.5 inches (38.1 mm) total supporting member thickness for the FA and LTH products. Wood members not complying with the minimum requirements for the load tables shall be reduced in accordance with AWC or ANSI/AF&PA NDS specifications and calculations. 4.2.3 Fasteners: Fastener Shank and Lengths for connections are specified in the allowable load tables. All fasteners specified in the allowable load tables in this report are common type nails with minimum yield strength (Fyb) of 90,000 psi (621 MPa). Fasteners in contact with fire-retardant-treated or preservative-treated lumber shall comply with IBC Section 2304.9.5 or IRC Section 319.3, as applicable. The report holder or lumber treater shall be contacted for reduced capacities and minimum corrosion resistance.

Fasteners in face of header shall be evenly divided between header flanges and applied in the lowermost holes of each header flange. (6) All fasteners shall be placed a minimum of ¼-inch from any edge of members or as required to avoid lumber splitting. (7) STH hangers may be installed with one strap top mounted and one strap face mounted over header, use lowest of the top and face allowable load for connection.
