NUACHT NA CARRAIGE Bealtaine 2014 SURVEY – Cost of School Uniform There was a huge response to the survey on the cost of the school uniform. RESULTS The vast majority of parents are in favour of having a school uniform. The cost of the jumper was a major concern. Pupils wearing designer runners instead of school shoes was another major concern as well as not having a choice of shops supplying the uniform. Black school shoes will be insisted upon in September. Runners, canvas shoes etc will not be allowed. If in doubt contact the school. Generic grey shirt, trousers and skirts widely available. BEFORE Only one supplier of jumper. €35-€49 depending on size. Tracksuits €60. FROM MAY 2013 2 Suppliers. Buckley’s in Shandon Street and McCarthy’s Sportsworld, Glamnire. All jumpers will now cost €35. Buckley’s will give a 15% reduction if jumper is bought in May or June. They also operate a payment scheme. McCarthy’s have reduced cost of tracksuit to €55. Replacement pants from €18 - €25. M oloney CHAPLAIN As we come to the end of another academic year, we are thankful for the knowledge we have gained and the blessings that we can count. I wish all students the very best of luck in their house exams, and in particular, those sitting state examinations. Here is a ‘Prayer for Preparation to Study’ for all those sitting exams; God bless. Lord, Give me insight that I might understand what I am studying, and help me to remember it when the time comes. Above all, I thank you for the ability to be able to study and for the many gifts and talents you have given me. Help me always to use them in such a way that they honour you and do justice to myself. Amen N. Moloney, Chaplain 3RD YEAR VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT organised by Mrs. O’ Callaghan. Congratulations to the finalists of our recently organised volleyball tournament. Winner of the MVP was Christopher Cremin 3.3. LITERACY AND THE LIBRARY One of our aims is to improve the literacy levels of our students and research shows that an increase in reading levels helps to achieve this. Recently we have had a ‘Drop Everything and Read’ Week to promote reading. The Board of Management has decided to give priority to developing a library for teenagers and a sum of €5,000 has been allocated to restock the library. We are asking parents and pupils to help kick start the restocking of the library by donating books of interest to teenagers and a text with details of this ‘book drive’ will be forwarded shortly.
