Prepared
Learn from experienced professors, as well
as master practitioners teaching in local
schools. Hands-on experience in nearby
public and private schools will help you build
confidence. A master’s degree from NU’s
College of Education is highly regarded in
the profession and provides candidates with
full Washington state teacher certification.
The Timing Is Right
Due to a recent Washington court decision,
the state has increased the K–16 education
budget by over $1 billion. Next year, it is
required to increase that budget yet again.
What does this mean? There is increased
funding for new teachers. This is a great time
to become a teacher in Washington state!
Effective and Efficient
Graduates will earn the Washington State
Residency Teaching Certificate and the
Master in Teaching degree simultaneously.
This means you’ll begin your career with
a master’s degree and—very likely—at
the higher salary that accompanies your
graduate degree.
Worker-friendly
The MIT program is designed for people who
are working full time. All classes meet at night
and on Saturdays so you can maintain your
current life. Please note that student teaching
will be accomplished during daytime hours.
The Support of a Cohort
You’ll be part of a supportive cohort of
students who will encourage you along the
way. Typically a tight bond develops in each
cohort during the 11-month program, a bond
that continues even after graduation.
Affordable
A world-class education is more affordable
than you might think. In fact, our tuition is
among the most competitive you’ll find. And
when the year is over, you won’t just have a
new career. You’ll have one with meaning.
It’s hard to put a price tag on that.

THIS SCIENTIST NOT ONLY EXPERIMENTS, HE INSPIRES. Craig Day had a successful career as a molecular
biologist. His research focused on developing
vaccines to combat infectious diseases. But as his
family began to grow, Craig discovered another
passion: teaching kids. He enrolled in NU’s Master
in Teaching program and found himself with a
full-time job teaching science in about one year.
“My love for science came from a middle school
teacher. I want to be that same example today for
my students in the Snohomish County area—to
use my research background to inspire in them an
appreciation for science.”
