euCEP – a brief introduction
Worldwide production and use of raw caoutchouc (rubber)ca. 18 Mio. t/a• 40 % natural rubber (rubber tree)• 60 % composition rubber (oil)
Residual material during production of technical rubber productsca. 5 - 10 %• 450.000 - 900.000 t/a (worldwide)• high value raw material• nowadays: downcycling or energy recovery
Use of rubber• 50 % tires• 50 % technical rubber products (sealing profiles, shoes, automotive etc.)

At the moment – residual material
Research in the field of residual material
• what amounts are aviable?– by standardised questionnaires
• discussion with the industry to catch their requirements– workshops– visits
• logistic concetps for collecting the material and quality management– case studies

At the moment – technology
Research in the field of grinding and using of elastomeric powders
• grinding of different types of rubber material– ambient grinding– cryogenic grinding (liquid nitrogen)– costs, effectivity, quality– characterisation and modification (surface)
• use of elastomeric powders as functional additiv for different raw materials
– resins (epoxy, polyurethan etc.)– plastics (PE, PP etc.)– powder and liquid coatings– bitumen and sealing pastes– concrete, finery

At the moment – technology
Example of a functional TPE-alloy
• water swellable TPE-alloy (self repairing sealing systems)– applicable e. g. in the field of civil engineering– low costs– easy to handle– isotropic swelling– weldable– recycling ability– rubber powder is responsible for porosity

Future activities
Logistics and technology
• logistics– realising case studies
• technolgoy– further work on grinding and using elastomeric powders – establishing different instruments and machines– fabrication of test samples– characterisation of test samples
Information, networking, and PR
• continous dialogue with the industry
• establishing the brand
• strengthen the cross-boarder-activities
