First Day - The Holy Spirit (Friday)

Holy Spirit! Lord of Light! From Your clear celestial height, your pure beaming radiance give!

Meditation Only one thing is important — eternal salvation. Only one thing, therefore, is to be feared — sin. Sin is the result of ignorance, weakness, and indifference. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Light, of Strength, and of Love.

With His sevenfold gifts, He enlightens the mind, strengthens the will, and inflames the heart with love of God. To ensure our salvation we ought to invoke the Divine Spirit daily. For “the Spirit helps us in our weakness, we do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us.”

Prayer Almighty and eternal God, who has promised to regenerate us by water and the Holy Spirit, and has given us forgiveness of all sins, promise to send forth from Heaven upon us Your sevenfold Spirit; the Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding, the Spirit of Counsel and Fortitude, the Spirit of Knowledge and Piety, and fill us with the Spirit of Holy Fear. Amen.

Primer Día - El Espíritu Santo (viernes)

¡Espíritu Santo! ¡Señor de Luz! ¡Danos, desde tu clara altura celestial, tu puro radiante esplendor!

Meditación

Sólo una cosa es importante: la salvación eterna. Por lo tanto, sólo una cosa hay que temer: el pecado. El pecado es el resultado de la ignorancia, debilidad e indiferencia. El Espíritu Santo es el Espíritu de Luz, de Fuerza y de Amor.

Con sus siete dones ilumina la mente, fortalece la voluntad, e inflama el corazón con el amor de Dios. Para asegurarnos la salvación debemos invocar al Divino Espíritu diariamente, porque “el Espíritu viene en ayuda de nuestra flaqueza. Pues nosotros no sabemos cómo pedir para orar como conviene; mas el Espíritu mismo intercede por nosotros”

Oración Omnipotente y eterno Dios, que has condescendido para regenerarnos con el agua y el Espíritu Santo, y nos has dado el perdón de todos los pecados, permite enviar del cielo sobre nosotros los siete dones de tu Espíritu, el Espíritu de Sabiduría y de Entendimiento, el Espíritu de Consejo y de Fortaleza, el Espíritu de Conocimiento y de Piedad, y llénanos con el Espíritu del Santo Temor. Second Day - The Gift of Fear of God (Saturday) (Sat)

Come, Father of the poor! Come, treasures which endure! Come, Light of all that live!

Meditation The gift of Fear of God fills us with a sovereign respect for God, and makes us dread nothing so much as to offend Him by sin. It is a fear that arises, not from the thought of hell, but from sentiments of reverence and filial submission to our heavenly Father. It is the fear that is the beginning of wisdom, detaching us from worldly pleasures that could in any way separate us from God. “They that fear the Lord will prepare their hearts, and in His sight will sanctify their souls.”

Prayer Come, O Blessed Spirit of Holy Fear, penetrate my inmost heart, that I may set You, my Lord and God, before my face forever. Help me to shun all things that can offend You, and make me worthy to appear before the pure eyes of Your Divine Majesty in heaven, where You live and reign in the unity of the ever Blessed Trinity, God, world without end. Amen.

Segundo Día - El Don del Temor (sábado)

¡Ven, Padre de los pobres! ¡Ven, tesoros que sostienes! ¡Ven, Luz de todo lo que vive!

Meditación

El don del Santo Temor de Dios nos llena con un soberano respeto por Dios, y nos hace que a nada temamos más que a ofenderlo por el pecado. Es un temor que se eleva, no desde el pensamiento del infierno, sino del sentimiento de reverencia y filial sumisión a nuestro Padre Celestial. Es el temor principio de sabiduría, que nos aparta de los placeres mundanos que podrían de algún modo separarnos de Dios. “Los que temen al Señor tienen corazón dispuesto, y en su presencia se humillan”

Oración Ven, Oh bendito Espíritu de Santo de Temor, penetra en lo más íntimo de mi corazón, que te tenga, mi Señor y Dios, ante mi rostro para siempre, ayúdame a huir de todas las cosas que te puedan ofender y hazme merecedor ante los ojos puros de tu Divina Majestad en el Cielo, donde Tú vives y reinas en unidad de la siempre Bendita Trinidad, Dios en el mundo que no tiene fin. Amén.

Third Day - The Gift of Piety (Sunday) (Sun)

Thou, of all consolers best, visiting the troubled breast, does refreshing peace bestow.

Meditation The gift of Piety creates in our hearts a filial affection of God as our most loving Father. It inspires us to love and respect for His sake, persons and things consecrated to Him, as well as those who are vested with His authority – His Blessed Mother and the Saints, the Church and its visible Head, our parents and superiors, our country and its rulers. He who is filled with the gift of Piety finds the practice of his religion not a burdensome duty, but a delightful service. Where there is love, there is no labor.

Prayer Come, O Blessed Spirit of Piety, possess my heart. Enkindle therein such a love for God that I may find satisfaction only in His service, and for His sake lovingly submit to all legitimate authority. Amen.

Tercer Día - El Don de Piedad (domingo)

Tú, de todos los consoladores el mejor, visitando el corazón turbado, da la gracia de la placentera paz.

Meditación

El don de Piedad suscita en nuestros corazones una filial afección por Dios como nuestro amorosísimo Padre. Nos inspira, por amor a Él, a amar y respetar a las personas y cosas a Él consagradas, así como aquellos que están envestidos con su autoridad, su Santísima Madre y los Santos, la Iglesia y su cabeza visible, nuestros padres y superiores, nuestro país y sus gobernantes. Quien está lleno del don de Piedad no encuentra la práctica de la religión como deber pesado sino como deleitante servicio. Donde hay amor no hay trabajo.

Oración Ven, Oh Bendito Espíritu de Piedad, toma posesión de mi corazón. Enciende dentro mío tal amor por Dios que encuentre satisfacción sólo en su servicio, y por amor a Él me someta amorosamente a toda legítima autoridad. Amén.

Fourth Day - The Gift of Fortitude (Monday)

Thou in toil art comfort sweet; pleasant coolness in the heat; solace in the midst of woe.

Meditation By the gift of Fortitude the soul is strengthened against natural fear, and supported to the end in the performance of duty. Fortitude imparts to the will an impulse and energy which move it to undertake without hesitancy the most arduous tasks, to face dangers, to trample under foot human respect, and to endure without complaint the slow martyrdom of even lifelong tribulation. “He that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved.”

Prayer Come, O Blessed Spirit of Fortitude, uphold my soul in time of trouble and adversity, sustain my efforts after holiness, strengthen my weakness, give me courage against all the assaults of my enemies, that I may never be overcome and separated from Thee, my God and greatest Good. Amen.

Cuarto Día - El Don de Fortaleza (lunes)

Tú, en la fatiga dulce alivio, refresco placentero en el calor, solaz en medio de la miseria.

Meditación

Por el don de Fortaleza el alma se fortalece ante el miedo natural y soporta hasta el final el desempeño de una obligación. La fortaleza le imparte a la voluntad un impulso y energía que la mueve a llevar a cabo, sin dudarlo, las tareas más arduas, a enfrentar los peligros, a estar por encima del respeto humano, y a soportar sin quejarse el lento martirio de la tribulación aún de toda una vida. “El que persevere hasta el fin, ese se salvará”

Oración Ven, Oh Espíritu de Fortaleza, alza mi alma en tiempo de turbación y adversidad, sostén mis esfuerzos de santidad, fortalece mi debilidad, dame valor contra todos los asaltos de mis enemigos, que nunca sea yo confundido y me separe de Ti, Oh mi Dios y mi máximo Bien. Amén

Fifth Day - The Gift of Knowledge (Tuesday)

Light immortal! Light Divine! Visit Thou these hearts of Thine, and our inmost being fill! Meditation The gift of Knowledge enables the soul to evaluate created things at their true worth – in their relation to God. Knowledge unmasks the pretense of creatures, reveals their emptiness, and points out their only true purpose as instruments in the service of God. It shows us the loving care of God even in adversity, and directs us to glorify Him in every circumstance of life. Guided by its light, we put first things first, and prize the friendship of God beyond all else. “Knowledge is a fountain of life to him that possesses it.”

Prayer Come, O Blessed Spirit of Knowledge, and grant that I may perceive the will of the Father; show me the nothingness of earthly things, that I may realize their vanity and use them only for Thy glory and my own salvation, looking ever beyond them to Thee, and Thy eternal rewards. Amen.

Quinto Día - El don del Conocimiento (martes)

¡Luz inmortal! ¡Divina Luz! ¡Visita estos corazones tuyos y llena nuestro más íntimo ser!

Meditación

El don del Conocimiento permite al alma darle a las cosas creadas su verdadero valor en su relación con Dios. El conocimiento desenmascara la simulación de las creaturas, revela su vaciedad y hace notar sus verdaderos propósitos como instrumentos al servicio de Dios. Nos muestra el cuidado amoroso de Dios aún en la adversidad, y nos lleva a glorificarlo en cada circunstancia de la vida. Guiados por su luz damos prioridad a las cosas que deben tenerla y apreciamos la amistad de Dios por encima de todo. “El conocimiento es fuente de vida para aquel que lo posee”

Oración

Ven, Oh Bendito Espíritu de Conocimiento, y concédeme que pueda percibir la voluntad del Padre; muéstrame la nulidad de las cosas de la tierra, que tenga idea de su vanidad y las use sólo para tu gloria y mi propia salvación, siempre por encima de ellas mirándote a Ti y tus premios eternos. Amén.

Sixth Day - The Gift of Understanding (Wednesday) (Wed)

If Thou take Thy grace away, nothing pure in man will stay, all his good is turned to ill.

Meditation Understanding, as a gift of the Holy Spirit, helps us to grasp the meaning of the truths of our holy religion. By faith we know them, but by Understanding we learn to appreciate and relish them. It enables us to penetrate the inner meaning of revealed truths and through them to be quickened to newness of life. Our faith ceases to be sterile and inactive, but inspires a mode of life that bears eloquent testimony to the faith that is in us; we begin to “walk worthy of God in all things pleasing, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”

Prayer Come, O Spirit of Understanding, and enlighten our minds, that we may know and believe all the mysteries of salvation; and may merit at last to see the eternal light in Thy light; and in the light of glory to have a clear vision of Thee and the Father and the Son. Amen.

Sexto día - El don del Entendimiento (miércoles)

Si tu apartas tu gracia, nada puro permanecerá en el hombre, todo lo que es bueno se volverá enfermo.

Meditación

El Entendimiento, como don del Santo Espíritu, nos ayuda a aferrar el significado de las verdades de nuestra santa religión. Por la fe las conocemos, pero por el entendimiento aprendemos a apreciarlas y a apetecerlas. Nos permite penetrar el profundo significado de las verdades reveladas y, a través de ellas, avivar la novedad de la vida. Nuestra fe deja de ser estéril e inactiva e inspira un modo de vida que da elocuente testimonio de la fe que hay en nosotros. Comenzamos a “caminar dignos de Dios en todas las cosas complaciendo y creciendo en el conocimiento de Dios”.

Oración Ven, Oh Espíritu de Entendimiento, e ilumina nuestras mentes, que podamos conocer y creer en todos los misterios de la salvación, y que por fin podamos merecer ver la eterna luz en la Luz, y en la luz de la gloria tener una clara visión de Ti y del Padre y del Hijo. Amén.

Seventh Day - The Gift of Counsel (Thursday) (Thu)

Heal our wounds – our strength renew; on our dryness pour Thy dew; wash the stains of guilt away!

Meditation The gift of Counsel endows the soul with supernatural prudence, enabling it to judge promptly and rightly what must be done, especially in difficult circumstances. Counsel applies the principles furnished by Knowledge and Understanding to the innumerable concrete cases that confront us in the course of our daily duty as parents, teachers, public servants, and Christian citizens. Counsel is supernatural common sense, a priceless treasure in the quest of salvation. “Above all these things, pray to the Most High, that He may direct thy way in truth.”

Prayer

Come, O Spirit of Counsel, help and guide me in all my ways, that I may always do Thy holy will. Incline my heart to that which is good; turn it away from all that is evil, and direct me by the straight path of Thy commandments to that goal of eternal life for which I long. Amen.

Séptimo Día - El don de Consejo (jueves)

Sana nuestras heridas, renueva nuestra fuerza. En nuestra aridez derrama tu rocío. Lava las manchas de la culpa.

Meditación

El don de Consejo dota al alma de prudencia sobrenatural, permitiéndole juzgar con prontitud y correctamente qué debe hacer, especialmente en circunstancias difíciles. El Consejo aplica los principios dados por el Conocimiento y el Entendimiento a los innumerables casos concretos que confrontamos en el curso de nuestras diarias obligaciones en tanto padres, docentes, servidores públicos y ciudadanos cristianos. El Consejo es sentido común sobrenatural, un tesoro invalorable en el tema de la salvación. “Y por encima de todo esto, suplica al Altísimo para que enderece tu camino en la verdad” (Ecl 37,15).

Oración

Ven, Oh Espíritu de Consejo, ayúdame y guíame en todos mis caminos para que siempre haga tu Santa Voluntad. Inclina mi corazón a aquello que es bueno, apártame de todo lo que es malo y dirígeme por el sendero recto de tus Mandamientos a la meta de la vida eterna que yo anhelo. Amén.

Eighth Day - The Gift of Wisdom (Friday) Bend the stubborn heart and will; melt the frozen, warm the chill; guide the steps that go astray! Meditation Embodying all the other gifts, as charity embraces all the other virtues, Wisdom is the most perfect of the gifts. Of wisdom it is written, “all good things came to me with her, and innumerable riches through her hands.” It is the gift of Wisdom that strengthens our faith, fortifies hope, perfects charity, and promotes the practice of virtue in the highest degree. Wisdom enlightens the mind to discern and relish things divine, in the appreciation of which earthly joys lose their savor, while the Cross of Christ yields a divine sweetness according to the words of the Savior: “Take up thy cross and follow me, for my yoke is sweet and my burden light.”

Prayer Come, O Spirit of Wisdom, and reveal to my soul the mysteries of heavenly things, their exceeding greatness, power and beauty. Teach me to love them above and beyond all the passing joys and satisfactions of earth. Help me to attain them and possess them forever. Amen.

Octavo Día - El don de Sabiduría (viernes) Dobla la voluntad y el corazón obstinado, funde lo que está helado, calienta lo que está frío. ¡Guía los pasos que se han desviado!

Meditación

Abarcando a todos los otros dones, como la caridad abraza a todas las otras virtudes, la Sabiduría es el más perfecto de los dones. De la Sabiduría está escrito: “todo lo bueno vino a mí con Ella, y riquezas innumerables me llegaron a través de sus manos”. Es el don de la Sabiduría el que fortalece nuestra fe, fortifica la esperanza, perfecciona la caridad y promueve la práctica de la virtud en el más alto grado. La Sabiduría ilumina la mente para discernir y apreciar las cosas de Dios, ante las cuales los gozos de la tierra pierden su sabor, mientras la Cruz de Cristo produce una divina dulzura, de acuerdo a las palabras del Salvador: “Toma tu cruz y sígueme, porque mi yugo es dulce y mi carga ligera”.

Oración

Ven, Oh Espíritu de Sabiduría y revela a mi alma los misterios de las cosas celestiales, su enorme grandeza, poder y belleza. Enséñame a amarlas sobre todo y por encima de todos los gozos pasajeros y las satisfacciones de la tierra. Ayúdame a conseguirlas y a poseerlas para siempre. Amén.

Ninth Day - Fruits of the Holy Spirit (Saturday) Thou, on those who evermore Thee confess and Thee adore, in Thy sevenfold gifts, descend: Give them comfort when they die; give them life with Thee on high; give them joys which never end. Amen.

Meditation The gifts of the Holy Spirit perfect the supernatural virtues by enabling us to practice them with greater docility to divine inspiration. As we grow in the knowledge and love of God, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, our service becomes more sincere and generous and our practice of virtue more perfect. Such acts of virtue leave the heart filled with joy and consolation and are known as Fruits of the Holy Spirit. These Fruits in turn render the practice of virtue more attractive and become a powerful incentive for still greater efforts in the service of God, to serve Whom is to reign. Prayer Come, O Divine Spirit, fill my heart with Thy heavenly fruits. Thy charity, joy, peace, patience, benignity, goodness, faith, mildness, and temperance that I may never weary in the service of God, but by continued faithful submission to Thy inspiration may merit to be united eternally with Thee in the love of the Father and the Son. Amen.

Noveno Día - Frutos del Espíritu Santo (sábado)

Tú, en aquellos que siempre más te confiesan y te adoran, en tus siete dones, desciende. Dales alivio en la muerte. Dales vida Contigo en las alturas. Dale los gozos que no tienen fin. Amén.

Meditación

Los dones del Espíritu Santo perfeccionan las virtudes sobrenaturales al permitirnos practicarlas con mayor docilidad a la divina inspiración. A medida que crecemos en el conocimiento y en el amor de Dios, bajo la dirección del Santo Espíritu, nuestro servicio se torna más sincero y generoso y la práctica de las virtudes más perfecta. Tales actos de virtudes dejan el corazón lleno de alegría y consolación y son conocidos como frutos del Espíritu Santo. Estos frutos, a su vez, hacen la práctica de las virtudes más activa y se vuelven un poderoso incentivo para esfuerzos aún mayores en el servicio de Dios.

Oración

Ven, Oh Divino Espíritu, llena mi corazón con tus frutos celestiales: caridad, gozo, paz, paciencia, benignidad, bondad, fe, mansedumbre y templanza. ACT OF CONSECRATION TO THE HOLY SPIRIT On my knees before the great multitude of heavenly witnesses, I offer myself, soul and body to You, Eternal Spirit of God. I adore the brightness of Your purity, the unerring keenness of Your justice, and the might of Your love. You are the Strength and Light of my soul. In You I live and move and am. I desire never to grieve You by unfaithfulness to grace and I pray with all my heart to be kept from the smallest sin against You. Mercifully guard my every thought and grant that I may always watch for Your light and listen to Your voice and follow Your gracious inspirations. I cling to You and give myself to You and ask You, by Your compassion, to watch over me in my weakness. Holding the pierced Feet of Jesus and looking at His Five Wounds and trusting in His Precious Blood and adoring His opened Side and stricken Heart, I implore You, Adorable Spirit, Helper of my infirmity, so to keep me in Your grace that I may never sin against You. Give me grace, O Holy Spirit, Spirit of the Father and the Son, to say to You always and everywhere, "Speak, Lord, for Your servant heareth." Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who, before ascending into heaven, did promise to send the Holy Spirit to finish Your work in the souls of Your Apostles and Disciples, deign to grant the same Holy Spirit to me that He may perfect in my soul, the work of Your grace and Your love.

Grant me the Spirit of Wisdom that I may despise the perishable things of this world and aspire only after the things that are eternal.

Grant me the Spirit of Understanding to enlighten my mind with the light of Your divine truth.

Grant me the Spirit of Counsel that I may ever choose the surest way of pleasing God and gaining heaven.

Grant me the Spirit of Fortitude that I may bear my cross with You and that I may overcome with courage all the obstacles that oppose my salvation.

Grant me the Spirit of Knowledge that I may know God and know myself and grow perfect in the science of the Saints.

Grant me the Spirit of Piety that I may find the service of God sweet and amiable.

Grant me the Spirit of Fear of God that I may be filled with a loving reverence towards God and may dread in any way to displease Him.

Mark me, dear Lord, with the sign of Your true disciples and animate me in all things with Your Spirit. Amen.

ACTO DE CONSAGRACIÓN AL ESPÍRITU SANTO

Recibid ¡oh Espíritu Santo!, la consagración absoluta de todo mi ser, que os hago en este día para que os dignéis ser en adelante, en cada uno de los instantes de mi vida, en cada una de mis acciones, mi Director, mi Luz, mi Guía, mi Fuerza, y todo el amor de mi Corazón.

Me abandono sin reservas a vuestras divinas operaciones, y quiero ser siempre dócil a vuestras santas inspiraciones.

¡Oh Santo Espíritu! Dignaos formarme con María y en María, según el modelo de vuestro amado Jesús. Gloria al Padre Creador. Gloria al Hijo Redentor. Gloria al Espíritu Santo Santificador. Amén.

ORACIÓN POR LOS 7 DONES DEL ESPÍRITU SANTO

Oh, Señor Jesucristo, que antes de ascender al cielo prometiste enviar al Espíritu Santo para completar tu obra en las almas de tus Apóstoles y discípulos, dígnate concederme el mismo Espíritu Santo para que Él perfeccione en mi alma la obra de tu gracia y de tu amor.

Concédeme el Espíritu de Sabiduría para que pueda despreciar las cosas perecederas de este mundo y aspirar sólo a las cosas que son eternas,

Concédeme el Espíritu de Entendimiento para iluminar mi mente con la luz de tu divina verdad,

Concédeme el Espíritu de Consejo para que pueda siempre elegir el camino más seguro para agradar a Dios y ganar el Cielo,

Concédeme el Espíritu de Fortaleza para que pueda llevar mi cruz contigo y sobrellevar con coraje todos los obstáculos que se opongan a mi salvación,

Concédeme el Espíritu de Conocimiento para que pueda conocer a Dios y conocerme a mí mismo y crecer en la perfección de la ciencia de los santos,
