November begins the holiday season that I always love. We will have a busy November at our church. The first ever church retreat is at Mountain Harbor Resort from November 6-8. If you are staying overnight the two nights, you already have received room information. Many will attend just for the days. We will have our first session at 10:00 on Saturday and our church service at the regular time, 10:30 on Sunday. The church will be closed that day, and we hope everyone will attend at the resort. Our guest speaker, Shirley Mathey, will present four sessions, and there will also be lots of free time to relax with your friends. Of course, we'll have some great meals, games, music, and fun. Our annual rummage sale will be November 20-21. Jane and Geary Hufstedler will organize us, but it takes lots of participation from everyone. You may want to start bringing items and storing them in the room upstairs and in the back of the kitchen downstairs. The church does get quite cluttered temporarily, so you can also bring items on the day we set up. If you have some big items, let Geary and Jane know, so they can find help for you. Charlotte and Allen Gold have invited all of us to Thanksgiving at their home on November 26. It will surely be a fun way to spend Thanksgiving with all your UU family. November 29th we will have an important congregational meeting to make plans for our future. You won't want to miss this chance to help guide our direction. 10:30, fifth Sunday meeting. Watch your email for all the latest information about Sundays, UU Wednesdays at 10:00, Movie Night(s), Thanksgiving Dinner, Rummage Sale, Retreat, choir practices, and many other events. You certainly won't be bored in November! Change your clocks back when you go to bed on Halloween night, when we end Daylight Saving Time. Enjoy Autumn! Wisdom Seekers Book Group Meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays

From 9 to 10

Our next book will be “The Shack” by William Paul Young. You should be able to find at the local library, or it is available on Kindle for $6.99 or less. “Mackenzie Allen Phillips's youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.” +-----------------+--------------+--------------------+---------------+----------------+

Religious Exploration The Religious Exploration Classes / Discussion Group

1st and 3rd Sundays at 9:00

This book views world history not from London, Paris and Rome but from Bagdad, Damascus and Cairo. “Destiny Disrupted, A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes” takes, as its point of departure, the following question: “What are the key events of world history and the shape of the overall story if one assumes that the center of the world is not Europe but the Islamic heartland?”

We expect to finish Destiny Disrupted in the next few sessions so that in January we will begin “A Chosen Faith.” By John Buehrens and Forrest Church. “For those contemplating religious choices, Unitarian Universalism offers an appealing alternative to religious denominations that stress theological creeds over individual conviction and belief. In this new edition of the classic introductory text on Unitarian Universalism, which includes a revealing, entertaining foreword by best-selling author Robert Fulghum (All I Really Need to Know I Learned in

Kindergarten.) The authors, John Buehrens and Forrest Church, explore the many sources of the living tradition of their chosen faith.” We strongly encourage all especially our new Friends and Members to read and/or join the discussion. Jane will be the facilitator of this book.

Notice: The Hot Springs Gay Pride Group meet at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hot Springs on 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 5pm. All are welcome.

Movie nights in November get tricky with the Retreat and Thanksgiving, so here is what we’re going to do. We’re going to have a Family Movie, an LGBT Movie, a Classic Movie and a New Release Movie and show one a week. For November, we will all be at the Retreat, so Friday night, after games, for the night owls, I'll show either a Thriller called "The Gift" or a family/comedy movie called "Pixels" or both, as we will have 2 cabins for movie viewing. Second week, Saturday, Nov 14, I'd like to give the movie "Pride" another go. It is such an inspiring story, and worth another watch, even if you have seen it. It's a great opportunity for us to invite folks from the LGBT community. Eat dinner beforehand, and bring muchies like popcorn etc.to share. Movie at 7. Third week, we’ll be in the middle of our RUMMAGE SALE Fourth week; It’s suggest we do not schedule a movie for the night after Thanksgiving. "Home for the Holidays” starring Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr. Let's do a Thanksgiving themed potluck. If 10 people show up with pumpkin pie, I'd be OK with that. Leftovers at 6, movie at 7. We'll leave it as an open option.. If no one is in town for the 4th Friday movie, we will show it the following month. Sheri
