December 24th, Christmas Eve Service, 7pmDecember 25th, Christmas Day, one morning service
I want to begin today by saying thanks for your wonderful response to our “Take God at His Wordseries. Many said the book and sermons were a real help to you and gave you a better understandinof tithing. What has made this memorable is how God used your time together as a family to share thinward growth that has taken place IN YOUR HEART. Continue this practice and watch how God drawyou closer to one another and to Him.
Remember your commitment to the Lord. Many of you responded favorably to this series by sayinthat you already tithe, but would expand your generosity here weekly. Many of you indicated yowould begin to give a particular dollar amount each week. Many others said that they have not tithebefore, but they would begin. Glory to God for all who have listened to His Word proclaimed and aracting upon it as you begin to “Test the Lord in this” aspect of your life.
This week I will preach about “Leadership” as we use Sunday for a brief congregational meeting afte
each service and vote on those who seek to be officers at Fifth Avenue. To prepare your heart for thdecision, please read the following passages prior to Sunday: 1 Timothy 3:1-13, Titus 1:5-9, Hebrew13:7, Acts 6:1-6. Pray for these men and ask God to give you wisdom in this decision as to who is besto serve.
Allow me to turn our attention now to a specific prayer request. On Wednesday, Elisha Brown, who five, will have major surgery at Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. Scott and Sarah Brown covet youprayers during this difficult time. Their family will be in Pittsburgh for at least two weeks after thsurgery. In case you did not know, Scott leads our second worship hour at Fifth.

I hope you had a great time of Thanksgiving with your families. As
you begin to make plans for Christmas day, we plan to have oneservice that morning. Look soon for more details.
I leave you with this final thought from Scripture: “Pleasant words
are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.”
Now let’s go and be pleasant as we live out our faith.

Giving Tree 2011
What is the Giving Tree? The giving tree is a wonderful opportunity to spread joy and love on Christmas morning bybuying a present for a child in a needy family. These are all local families that we are
sponsoring through Job and Family Services.
How Can I Help?If you would like to take part in this, please take an ornament from the Giving Tree in theparlor. Each ornament has the name of a child on it. Attached to the ornaments will bebusiness cards that have instructions for giving gifts through this program and informationabout the child and gift needed.
What Kinds of Gifts Are Needed? We are sponsoring 15 children in 6 different families. The ornaments break down as follows:
30 ornaments (2/child) are for clothing for the children
15 ornaments (1/child) are for “wish list” items such as toys, dolls, or small electronics
6 ornaments (1/family) are for a grocery or gas card that will go to the parents
Job and family services are also in need of wrapping paper. If you leave a roll of wrappingpaper by the tree, it will be delivered with the gifts.
What do I do with the gifts? Please do not wrap the presents in paper; they will be unwrapped
before delivery if you do. Every gift associated with an ornamentshould be placed in a gift bag with no tissue paper. The ornamentshould be attached to the bag. The bag should be left under the
Giving Tree. All gifts need to be delivered by Sunday,
December 18.
