We have had a great start to the year. The PTA’s fall fundraiser brought in nearly $10,000 that will go to supporng our students. The top 30 students who fundraised soaked me in a human carwash. We also had record aendance at Autumn Fest. A special thank you goes to all the parent volunteers that planned the event, arrived early to set up, and stayed late to make sure the school was ready for learning on Monday. I am also happy to report that another 20 fathers joined our Watch D.O.G.S. group. I hope to see each of the dads in classrooms soon. Moreover, thanks to the hard work of our staff, students, and parents our kids are learning and growing tremendously. We are grateful for each of you who volunteer at school, make me each night to read to your child, and ensure he or she completes her homework. The month of November marks the end of the first trimester. It is a good me to take stock of our learning community. One of our collecve commitments is that “we will acvely involve parents and the community in the learning process.” The fall parent conferences are a key component in fulfilling this commitment. Parent conferences will take place November 22, 25, and 26. Your conference date and me will be sent home on Friday, November 8. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have quesons about your scheduled appointment. Parent-Teacher conferences provide a valuable opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress and to make plans to support his or her growth for the second trimester. Some suggesons to help you get the most out of your conference are listed below. During the Conference: Please remember that conferences are brief—only 20 minutes. If you need addional me, please arrange for a follow-up session so that conferences scheduled to follow yours are not delayed. Keep a growth mindset. In a growth mindset, one believes that abilies can be developed through dedicaon and hard work—natural talent is just a starng point. This view creates a love of learning and resilience that is essenal in becoming a successful learner. It also helps our children see failure and challenges as opportunity es—a next step, which builds hope. Teaching our children to hold a growth mindset creates internal movaon. Your child’s teacher will share areas of strength and areas for growth; we refer to these as our “stars” and our “next steps”. The teacher may bring up areas in which your child is having difficulty in order to help you understand your child’s progress and create a plan to support his or her growth. Your input in how to help your child succeed at school is imperave as we seek to ensure his or her learning. Make plans on what you, your child, and the teacher can do to promote success. Aſter the Conference: Take some me to discuss the teacher’s comments with your child. Remember to build on your child’s strengths (stars)—share the compliments from the teacher and recognize him or her for what he or she is doing well. Then, if necessary, talk about areas for growth (next steps) and how you and the teacher will help him or her improve. It is Mountain Meadow’s mission to ensure high levels of learning for each student. This is an achievable mission when parents, teachers, and students collaborate. We appreciate your support and your involvement in your child’s educaon. I look forward to seeing you at conferences. Respecully,

November 2013 VOLUME 20, ISSUE 2

Dear Mountain Meadow Community I hope this note finds your family well. We have had a great start to the year. The PTA’s fall fundraiser brought in nearly $10,000 that will go to supporting our students. The top 30 students who fundraised soaked me in a human carwash. We also had record attendance at Autumn Fest. We are grateful for each of you who volunteer at school, make time each night to read to your child, and ensure he or she completes her homework. The month of November marks the end of the first trimester. It is a good time to take stock of our learning community. One of our collective commitments is that “we will actively involve parents and the community in the learning process.” The fall parent conferences are a key component in fulfilling this commitment. Parent conferences will take place November 22, 25, and 26. Your conference date and time will be sent home on Friday, November 8. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have questions about your scheduled appointment. Parent-Teacher conferences provide a valuable opportunity for you and your child’s teacher to discuss your child’s progress and to make plans to support his or her growth for the second trimester. Some suggestions to help you get the most out of your conference are listed below. During the Conference:

Please remember that conferences are brief—only 20 minutes. If you need additional time, please arrange for a follow-up session so that conferences scheduled to follow yours are not delayed.

Keep a growth mindset. In a growth mindset, one believes that abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—natural talent is just a starting point. This view creates a love of learning and resilience that is essential in becoming a successful learner. It also helps our children see failure and challenges as opportunity ties—a next step, which builds hope. Teaching our children to hold a growth mindset creates internal motivation.

Your child’s teacher will share areas of strength and areas for growth; we refer to these as our “stars” and our “next steps”. The teacher may bring up areas in which your child is having difficulty in order to help you understand your child’s progress and create a plan to support his or her growth. Your input in how to help your child succeed at school is imperative as we seek to ensure his or her learning. Make plans on what you, your child, and the teacher can do to promote success. After the Conference:

Take some time to discuss the teacher’s comments with your child.

We appreciate your support and your involvement in your child’s education. I look forward to seeing you at conferences.

Respectfully,

AWARDS, On October 30th, , 2013, Mountain Meadow held an “ Honoring Kids” assembly recognizing the following students for demonstrating safe behavior, taking responsibility for school work, or displaying a respectful attitude. Tawny Sanabria, newly appointed White River School Board member, was our guest of honor .

The annual health screening is on Wednesday, November 13th. Your student’s hearing and vision (distance only) will be screened. The results of the screening will be sent home with each student.

It is now flu season. There are many options for getting your annual flu shot, i.e. your pharmacy, your doctor’s office and immunization clinics. Please call me if you would like help finding an available location.

A reminder that if your student requires any medication at school during the day, even over the counter medications (i.e. ibuprofen, Tylenol or cough drops containing Mentholatum) must have an authorization completed by a Licensed Health Care Provider. Cough drops that do not contain Mentholatum may be brought to school, but must be kept in the Health Room and dispensed by the nurse.

Dental Day is coming to Mountain Meadow on Wednesday, December 4th. Watch for the blue permission forms to come home soon. The class with the most participation wins a PIZZA PARTY!

The Lost and Found is growing at astronomical rates.

Please stop by and look for your student’s lost items.

Every Wednesday morning before school from 8:00am

to 8:50am our P.E. teacher, Mr. Bolton, is opening the

gym for a pre-school workout. This is free and open to

Mountain Meadow students of all ages. Students can

choose from a variety of physical activities to

participate in. Parent volunteers are welcome.

If you have athletic shoes that no longer fit your child,

please feel free to donate them to the P.E. program to

be used as ‘loaner shoes’ for students who forget to

dress appropriately for PE.

Through Target’s TAKE CHARGE OF EDUCATION Program our school received $481.34. Thank you families for donating 1% of your purchases to our school.

The Book Fair will be here during conferences November 22nd, 25th, and 26th
