Light Weight Tuner Administrator- Why?

Existing Behavior

- To administer a tuner, we use Infra Admin channel which requires a CMS channel to

be present in same tuner.

Overhead

- Existing design involves a two level connection

Administrator connects to a CMS Machine CMS in-turn connects to End-Point

- This consumes twice the band-width

Current Solution - Basic channel operations doesn’t need a CMS to be running. - RPC can be used to connection and administer end-points


Light Weight Tuner Administrator- How?

Light Weight Tuner Administrator can be used to administer end-point tuners in two ways

Administer 8.2.02 end-points

- From browser connect to the 8202 tuner to be administered over RPC with below address,

http://<end-point_tuner_host>:<rpc_port>/tuneradmin

Administer pre-8.2.02 end-points

- From browser connect to one of the 8202 tuners in the environment,

http://<any_8202_tuner_host>:<rpc_port>/tuneradmin

- In the login page select ”Remote Tuner” option and the specify the pre-8202 tuner RPC address


Light Weight Tuner Administrator - Options

Manage BBCA Channels

To perform channel related operations on the tuner like subscribe, start, stop, delete and update

Manage Packages

To perform package related operations such as install, un-install, verify and repair

Edit Settings

To change configuration on tuner. Supported options,

1. Edit Tuner UI mode

2. Change trusted transmitter settings

3. Add/Delete/Edit Custom Properties

Dependencies

To handle dependencies between channels/packages , when channel operations need to be carried out in a sequential order.

Tuner Operations

Supported options,

1. Tuner Commands -> Restart/Stop Tuner, Launch Console, Update Policy and Scan machine

2. Storage Commands -> -fsck, -reconstruct and - repairchannels

Tuner Diagnostics

Can be used to diagnose tuner with options like,

?status, ?channelstatus, ?debug and ?log requests

New Tuner Admin Questions

1. Minimum server side Tuner version to use http://localhost:7717/tuneradmin

[Devendra Vamathevan] Minimum version will be 8.2.02; we don’t plan to back port as there is a simple workaround

Customers have 2 options:

1) All tuners are on 8.2.02 and user wants to manage a single tuner - use the direct connect option connect directly to the tuner and mange using the localhost option.

2) Some tuners are on older version ( prior to 8.2.02) install a tuner 8.2.02 use that tuner as the proxy to connect to the tuner that you want to manage.

2. Minimum client side Tuner version which this tool can be used to control

[Devendra Vamathevan] 8.2.00 all other version are now EOL

3. Release date?

[Devendra Vamathevan] It will depend on how our testing progresses he hope to have it in 8.2.02 or in a patch following 8.2.02
