Proposition 8 seeks to defend the teachings of Christian beliefs. Please read it carefully and vote it appropriately. As stated by the Conference of Catholic Bishops, “ We must begin with the commitment never to intentionally kill or collude in the killing, of any innocent human life, no matter how broken, unformed, disabled or desperate that life may seem. The truth of it is: As long as the society accepts the commercial destruction of the youngest and weakest, none are safe. The human family will make little progress dealing with capital punishment, poverty, euthanasia and other attacks on human life and dignity, if we allow the routine destruction of our youngest and most helpless sisters and brothers. Pope John Paul II reminds us in the Gospel of Life, It is impossible to further the common good without acknowledging and defending the right to life, upon which all other inalienable rights of individuals are founded and from which they develop.” A Catholic cannot vote for a candidate who takes a position in favor of an intrinsic evil, such as the direct and intentional destruction of innocent human life. Proposition 6 seeks to preserve the sacrament of marriage as a union between a man and a woman. This does not cut off protection for the parties of a civil union, if that is what the legislature desires, but it does seek to take the government out of defining the Church’s sacrament which existed long before the government stepped in to protect the parties to the marriage and the children. When we register to vote, we willingly accept the task of becoming educated on the issues and candidates and voting with a properly formed conscience. The bishops do not intend to tell Catholics for whom or against whom to vote. Their purpose is to help Catholics form their consciences in accordance with God’s truth. They recognize that the responsibility to make choices in political life rests with each individual in light of a properly formed conscience. VOTE YOUR CONSCIOUS! To support our Church and the sacrament of marriage I urge you to consider your vote carefully, exercise your informed conscious and consider voting for both of these propositions. Worthy Officers and Brothers All:Happy Hallowe'en, All Saints Day and All Souls

Day! We have lots of great days to celebrate here right at the top of November. Hallowe'en, or All Hallows' Eve, started as a Catholic vigil observance of the Holy Day of Obligation that follows it. All-Saints Day started in 609 by Pope Boniface IV as "Feast of All Martyrs" and was originally on May 13th. In the 8th Century, Pope Gregory III (731-41) moved it to November 1st and renamed it "Feast of All Saints". Pope Sixtus IV (1471-84) made it a Holy Day of Obligation, added the vigil (All Hallows' Eve) and added the Octave of All-Saints which was celebrated until 1955 when it was abolished just prior to Vatican II.

November is also the month where we take a moment to give thanks for all of God's wondrous works in our lives. Thanksgiving in the United States was first celebrated in 1621 as a celebration of the harvest and the working together of the colonists at Plymouth and the Native Americans. However, it was not until 1941, over three-hundred years later, that President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation making Thanksgiving Day the fourth (and not always final) Thursday of November and designated it as a national holiday.

So, as I usually do in the November newsletter, I am going to use this space to say what I am thankful for. I am, first and foremost, thankful for our beautiful Catholic faith that we all share and for God's love and mercy. I am thankful for my son, Allen, Jr., who is the most amazing gift God has blessed me with. I am thankful for my parents, Al and Fran Venezio, who love me unconditionally and who have instilled in me the values of tradition and hard work. I am thankful for a great job in an amazing community filled with wonderful people, including all of you, my fellow Brother Knights. Each one of you help to make our parish community and the cities in which we live and work better places for everyone.

This month, Clermont Middle School Band is starting up their spirit days every Monday. If any of you can help us out, please take a flyer and order pizza

anytime on Monday for delivery, carry out or dine-in. 20% of what you spend comes back to us! We would be very thankful for your support.

I hope that this Thanksgiving, each of you will take a moment to thank our almighty Lord for all he has graced you with this year and for the blessings he bestows upon us, the Knights of Columbus. We live to serve His Church and His people. Let us always remember that we are united in that cause and that the Brotherhood of the Knights of Columbus is bigger than any one of us individually, but that without each and every individual man, the Knights of Columbus could not exist.

Vivat Jesus!Allen

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BLESSED SACRAMENT COUNCIL #13240 NOVEMBER 2012

Supreme and State Council News

Mass and Pilgrimage for Life and

LibertyA standing room only crowd filled the immense

Great upper Church of the Basilica of the National

Shrine of the Immaculate Conception Oct. 14 for the

Mass and Pilgrimage for Life and Liberty, sponsored

by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Ad Hoc

Committee for Religious Liberty. Supreme Chaplain,

Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore, was the

principal celebrant and homilist at the Mass, which

drew participants from several states throughout the

Mid-Atlantic region. The Mass was broadcast

internationally by EWTN and across the United

States by several other Catholic TV outlets.

In his homily, Archbishop Lori centered on the

pervasive secularism growing in U.S. culture, and its

harmful effects on the respect for human life and its

inalienable freedoms.

“In rejecting the wisdom of religious faith, in

seeking to contain and diminish it, secularism has, at

the same time, foolishly devalued human life,” the

archbishop said. “When man and woman are no

longer perceived to be created in the image of God,

then, sooner or later, their lives and their liberties

become dispensable.”

He reminded the congregation and TV audience

that, “with charity, civility, and persistence, ‘whether

in season and out of season’, we must insist on the

Church’s right and the rights of individuals to put

our God-given liberties at the service of human life,

without the government’s forcing us to disobey our

own teaching, by fining our institutions or by taking

away their accreditation, by penalizing private

employers with conscientious objections, or any of

the other means the government has at its disposal.

“As believers and as citizens we must robustly

engage in the political process by voting with a

properly formed conscience and by continually letting

our elected officials know that we expect them to

protect the God-given rights of life and liberty.”

The archbishop also led the congregation in

praying the Rosary to inaugurate the Oct. 14-22

Novena for Life and Liberty  for the respect for

human life and religious liberty.

Proclaim LibertyThroughout the history of this country, millions

of Americans have helped guide America's journey

through their sacrifice and actions in exercising the

guarantee of religious freedom. In his newest eBook

Proclaim Liberty: Notes on the Next Great

Awakening in America  Supreme Knight Carl

Anderson offers three speeches given between April

and August 2012, in which he makes the case that

Catholics have the power to transform our political

process by voting in a manner consistent with their

faith on core issues and by bringing charity into our

political process. “Now making up one-fourth of the

population of the United States, Catholics are

uniquely suited to creating this transformation by

bringing charity into public life, by following Catholic

social teaching in their own lives, and by withholding

our votes from candidates and propositions that

oppose Church teaching on matters of intrinsic evil.

This should be done in every case, in every race for

political office, regardless of the party of the

candidate. Though it is impossible to say which party

might benefit most in the long run, if Catholics take

such a stand, we could literally change the face of our

country’s political debates,” Supreme Knight

Anderson notes.

Four parts of retirement: Phase three

My previous two articles discussed important

steps that lead to retirement. But what happens

once you reach that goal? You’ve got free time to

pursue your interests, visit friends and family and

relax. It’s a beautiful thing indeed.

You’ve now entered the de-accumulation

phase. You will start to spend down the assets you

have accumulated during your working years.

Remember: a 60-year-old man has a 20% chance

of making it to 95! A 60-year-old woman has a 30%

chance. And there is a 40% chance that at least one

member of a married 60-year-old couple will

make it to 95. That’s a long time to live off of

accumulated cash while you don’t work. Save,

save, save, so you will be able to de-accumulate.

As a Knight, you have access to a product that

is designed to make saving safe and easy. Our

annuity is designed to provide guaranteed long-

term security. Consistent and disciplined savings

placed into this annuity over time can provide

income at retirement that you cannot outlive. With

that guarantee comes the fact that no one has ever

lost money put in a Knights of Columbus annuity

(remember, absolute safety of principal) and

consider the value you are getting.

Contributing money to an annuity can also

have positive tax implications (always check with

your tax professional on these matters). And our

annuities offer a competitive interest rate,

consistent with our primary goal of absolute

safety of principal.

Take some time to meet with me and I will

explain fully the benefits of selecting our annuity,

along with the benefits of our top-rated life

insurance, disability income and long term care

insurance plans. As you consider options as you

proceed toward retirement, think about one thing

guaranteed to help you and open a Knights of

Columbus annuity.

Tournament

Brothers,

On Friday November 16, 2012, the Special

Olympics Statewide Bowling Tournament will

take place at the Kissimme AMF Bowling Lanes in

Kissimme, Florida.

Annually the K of C Council 13240 has

provided volunteers for this most important and

heart warming event. Last year we had

approximately 26 volunteers for the event,

(Knights and Spouses.)

Volunteers are needed this  year and I would

like to see a bigger contingent this year. The

duties are: lane attendants who keep score and

keep the bowlers in the right order of bowling,

announcers on the loud speaker system,

distributors of medals and awards and other

work. The time required that Friday is from 12:30

pm to 5:30 pm.

I appeal to all Brothers and their Spouses to

participate if you can. Special Olympics and most

of all the participants and families are really

appreciative of our help.

Lecturerʼs Notes All Saints Day (a Holy Day ce lebra ted on November 1)   is in honor of all the Saints whether canonized or not.    Veneration of the Saints dates back to the year 600 when the Saints were called upon in prayer and remembered during the Liturgy because they are seen as intercessors in Heaven, who could bring a personʼs needs directly to God.  The Blessed Mother is especially honored with devotion: shrines, feasts, and special titles were created to revere her.  All Souls Day   is a day set apart on November 2 to pray for all the faithful departed who are still suffering for  their sins. I will be selling tickets at the next council meeting  for the K of C  10th  Anniversary Dinner  on November l7. The tickets are $10.00 apiece.    You can see me before or after the council meeting.  If time permits,  I would like to show the Video, “To be a Patriot” for those members planning on taking the 4th degree this November. Mike Ogden, Lecturer
