Note
Lloyd Robert Shaw was born in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia on 7 February 1914, the son of LloydEthelbert and Lillian (Morse) Shaw. He was educated at Acadia University (BA) and received his MAfrom Columbia University. He worked variously as a principal and teacher in Annapolis Valley schools,as the national CCF (Cooperative Commonwealth Federation) research director under M.J. Coldwell, andas a founder and first registrar of Carleton University in Ottawa. He served during the Second World Waras a flight sergeant. Following the war he joined the family business, L.E. Shaw Limited, and ultimatelyserved as president and chairman of the board until his retirement in 1979. He was a lifelong NewDemocrat, active at both the provincial and federal levels. He was married to Marjorie Jean MacKinnon(born 21 March 1915) and was the father of Robbie Shaw and Alexa McDonough. He died in Halifax,Nova Scotia on 16 October 1993.
Scope and content
Fonds consists of minutes, reports, published materials, correspondence, promotional materials,newspaper clippings, financial records, photographs and sound recordings. The contents of the fondsdocument the social and political involvements of the creator as an activist for social causes andadvancements both in Nova Scotia and Canada in general.
