Cars to Be Sold For $88Due to an extreme overstock of pre-owned vehicles,
Seelye Wright of South Haven is celebrating The Seasonwith the $88 Slasher Sale this Saturday, November 26, 2011
South Haven, MI–Managementof Seelye Wright of South Havenhas just announced its plan to selloff its used vehicle inventory tothe public by means of an $88Slasher Sale this Saturday,November 26, 2011.
During this one-day event, every used vehicle will be sold forthousands below original price, including cars for just $88. Whyprice them so low? According to EricThorns, of Seelye Wright of SouthHaven, sales of new vehicles overthe last few months have resulted inan overload of trade-ins. During the$88 Slasher Sale, every car, truck, van and sport utility vehicle will beoffered for hundreds to thousands ofdollars below the original price.
Seelye Wright of South Havenhas decided to offer these vehicles tothe public at discounted rates beforethey go to auction.
“The community has shownus great support throughout theyears,” said Eric. “We are grateful. We would rather give these deals tothe public than incur the expense ofsending these vehicles to auction.”
A huge selection of pre-ownedcars, trucks, vans and sport utility
vehicles will be available for thisevent.
“We absolutely must reduceour used inventory at all costs,” saidEric. “So customers can expect thesevehicles to be sold at rock bottomprices regardless of the loss. Carsthat would normally sell for $1,000to $2,000 will sell for as little as $88.Cars that would normally sell for$3,000 to $12,000 will be thousandsand thousands lower. There’s truly avehicle for everyone’s budget.”
Due to the large responseexpected for this event, those wishingto buy should register prior to the $88Slasher Sale. Customers are stronglyencouraged to register throughout theweek during normal business hoursat Seelye Wright of South Haven.Customers may also register at 8:00a.m. Saturday, the day of the sale.
Here’s how the $88 Slasher Saleworks: All vehicles will be opened at8:00 a.m., so buyers can inspect thevehicles for one hour before the salestarts at 9:00 a.m. The retail price willbe posted on the windshield of eachvehicle.
When the $88 Slasher Salebegins at 9:00 a.m. the price cutterwill cross out the retail price on
each vehicle and replace it with thenew Slasher Sale price. Whoeveris sitting behind the wheel will begiven the opportunity to purchase thevehicle.
Seelye Wright of SouthHaven will have finance and creditspecialists on-hand to prequalifybuyers prior to the sale. “We’ll havesome of the most open-mindedlenders in the area at this event,” saidEric Thorns. “Even if you’ve hadtrouble obtaining auto financing inthe past, don’t count yourself out. Ifyou bring a current payroll stub andyour driver’s license, chances are wecan arrange financing for you.”
All vehicles plus tax, title and license. See dealer for details.
The $88 Slasher Salewill be held at Seelye Wright of
South HavenThe sale is one-day only, Saturday,
Nov. 26, 2011. Preview cars8:00 a.m.; sale begins at 9:00 a.m.

Turn on the radio any day in December, and chances are you will catch a Christmas tune or two. Some stations, in fact, play nothing but Christmas music throughout the month. We allhave our favorite holiday tunes, but how many of us know who penned them? Did you know, for example, that Irving Berlin wrote "A White Christmas"? Take this quiz and see what else youknow. Match the tune to the right songwriter.

For many, the Christmas holiday hasevolved into nothing more than buying abunch of gifts for a bunch of people andgetting a bunch of gifts that cost a bunch ofpeople a whole bunch of money. Gifts, gifts, gifts. Is that what this season is all about?
There are many reasons to celebrate theChristmas season and many ways in whichto celebrate it. Giving gifts is one of thosemany ways. However, perhaps some of usneed to reconsider our motives andexpectations in gift giving. Perhaps we canlearn from those who have looked moredeeply than the names and items on awritten-out list and the credit card's limit.
As you ponder this year's purchases, consider these thoughts and examine yourmotives:
• The greatest gift you can give another is the purityof your attention. -Richard Moss
• May no gift be too small to give, nor too simple to
receive, which is wrapped in thoughtfulness, and tiedwith love. -L.O. Baird
• You may give gifts without caring, but you can't carewithout giving. -Frank A. Clark
• When I give, I give myself. -Walt Whitman• There is no benefit in the gifts of a bad man. -
Euripides• What is a true gift? One for which nothing is
expected in return. -Chinese Proverb• The spirit in which a thing is given determines that
in which the debt is acknowledged; it's the intention, not the face value of the gift, that's weighed. -LuciusAnnaeus Seneca
• Give! Give the love you have received to thosearound you. You must love with your time, your hands, and your hearts. You need to share all that you have. -Mother Teresa
When our motives are pure, we may findthat the reward in giving is more than justseeing someone smile and hearing a thankyou:
• You always get back much more than yougive. -Jimmy Carter
• We make a living by what we get, but we make alife by what we give. -Winston Churchill
• Generous people are rarely mentally ill. -KarlMenninger

You can buy things and you can give gifts, but will your present reflect your genuineappreciation for the receiver? Will your giftsimply fulfill an obligation or will it show youcare? Maybe this is the year to put a littlemore thought into the gift selection process.Considering the wisdom of those who havegone before, you may find yourself in themidst of a merrier Christmas.

As the holidays approach, factories inother countries are kicking into high gearto provide Americans with monstrouspiles of massed produced goods.Merchandise that has been produced atthe expense of American labor.
This year will be different. This yearAmericans will give the gift of genuineconcern for other Americans. There is nolonger an excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be found that is produced byAmerican hands. Yes there is!
It's time to think outside the box, people. Who says a gift needs to fit in ashirt box, wrapped in Chinese producedwrapping paper?
Everyone -- yes EVERYONE getstheir hair cut. How about gift certificatesfrom your local American hair salon orbarber?
Gym membership? It's appropriate forall ages who are thinking about somehealth improvement.
Who wouldn't appreciate getting theircar detailed? Small, American owneddetail shops and car washes would loveto sell you a gift certificate or a book ofgift certificates.
Are you one of those extravagantgivers who think nothing of plunkingdown the Benjamin's on a foreign madeflat-screen? Perhaps that grateful giftreceiver would like his driveway sealed,or lawn mowed for the summer, ordriveway plowed all winter, or games atthe local golf course.
There are a bazillion owner-runrestaurants - all offering gift certificates. And, if your intended isn't the fancyeatery sort, what about a half dozenbreakfasts at the local breakfast joint.
Remember, folks this isn't about bigNational chains - this is about supportingyour home town Americans with theirfinancial lives on the line to keep theirdoors open.
How many people couldn't use an oilchange for their car, truck or motorcycle, done at a shop run by the Americanworking guy?
Thinking about a heartfelt gift formom? Mom would LOVE the services ofa local cleaning lady for a day.
My computer could use a tune-up, andI KNOW I can find some young guy whois struggling to get his repair business upand running.
OK, you were looking for somethingmore personal. Local crafts people spintheir own wool and knit them intoscarves. They make jewelry, and potteryand beautiful wooden boxes.
Plan your holiday outings at local, owner operated restaurants and leaveyour server a nice tip. And, how aboutgoing out to see a play or ballet at yourhometown theatre.
Musicians need love too, so find avenue showcasing local bands.
Honestly, people, do you REALLYneed to buy another ten thousand foreignmade lights for the house? When youbuy a five dollar string of light, about fiftycents stays in the community. If you havethose kinds of bucks to burn, leave themailman, trash guy or babysitter a niceBIG tip.
You see, Christmas is no longer aboutdraining American pockets for foreignprofit. Christmas is now about caringabout US, encouraging Americansmall businesses to keep plugging
away to follow their dreams. And,when we care about other Americans,we care about our communities, and thebenefits come back to us in ways wecouldn't imagine.
THIS is the new American Christmastradition.
“Forward this to everyone onyour mailing list -- post it to discussiongroups -- throw up a post on Craigslist inthe Rants and Raves section in your city-- send it to the editor of your local paperand radio stations, and TV newsdepartments. This is a revolution ofcaring about each other, and isn't thatwhat Christmas is about?” (Taken froman email, original origin unknown.)

Aside from the turkey, what many people look forward toon Thanksgiving Day is spending the day in front of thetelevision watching football. In some circles, that meansthat the football fans end up in front of the TV while the restof the family does something else. What do you do if footballjust isn't your sport? Are there other things you can do tomake it a day with your family? Here are a few ideas.
Take a walk. When you spend some time outdoors, you'llexperience the changing colors and get a look at what ishappening in your neighborhood. Whether you go for ashort walk or a long walk, it will help with digestion of a bigmeal. It can also help to stave off the sleepiness that comesafter a big meal. The exercise will give you the opportunityto get away from the kitchen, where so many spend somuch time in preparation for the holidays. If you want a littlemore exercise, why not celebrate football with a game oftouch on your own? Head down to your local park or justout to the backyard and set up a game. You can get veryphysical or have a light and easy game, depending on whois attending your dinner.
Make crafts with the kids. All you really need is constructionpaper and some glue, and you can create centerpieces foryour Thanksgiving table or special holiday gifts or cards thatyou can send out during the upcoming Christmas season. If you get more involved, have the kids pick up pineconesand buy some glitter. These can be used to create pineconeturkeys that will last for a long time or they can be senthome as souvenirs of the day.
Thanksgiving can also be used as a day of service, toreally generate appreciation for the abundance in your life. Many people choose to donate blood with other familymembers. You can also spend time with your favoriteorganization that helps those in need, or you can start anew tradition and volunteer at a homeless shelter or a soupkitchen.
When the meal is complete and the dishes are done, there's no reason you have to consign yourselves to hoursin front of the television. (Of course, that might be exactlywhat you want to do.) You can spend time with the familyand create new traditions over the course of the years totruly make the day a celebration of family.

Flip on the TV Thanksgiving morning, andchances are you'll catch a glimpse of theMacy's Thanksgiving Day parade. While theparade has much to offer viewers fromdazzling floats to live performances to thearrival of the man in red himself, many tunein specifically for the balloons. Filled withhelium and floating high above the New YorkCity streets, the balloons are an awesomesight.
Although a major feature today, theballoons were not always a part of theparade. When the parade began in 1924, liveanimals from the Central Park Zoo were themain attraction. In 1927, balloons beganappearing in the parade, with Felix the Catthe first. The balloons were inflated with airthe first year and then with helium from thenon.
The helium balloons were originally part ofa 1929 store promotion and released at theend of the parade. The first year, the balloonspopped. The second year, they wereredesigned so that they would releasehelium gradually and float for several days.
The balloons had address labels on themand anyone who found one after itdescended could return it to the address fora small prize.
Eventually the sweepstakes balloonsgave way to bigger and better characterballoons resembling those of today.Characters have come and gone over theyears, with many advertisers introducingtheir company characters into the mix. In1941, the parade featured an Uncle Samballoon in support of the war. When rubberbecame scarce, Macy's retired the balloonand donated it to the war effort.
Making a balloon for the parade is alabor-intensive process. First, the balloonmust be sketched and evaluated by anengineer. If the design receives the go-ahead, a clay model of the balloon is built toscale, while a second model is created andpainted. Finally, the pieces of the actualballoon are cut from polyurethane andassembled. The balloon is tested for leaksand completed in time for the parade.
Because of their massive size, it takeshours to prepare the balloons for the paradeand finesse to keep them in positionthroughout the parade. The inflation startsthe night before and has turned into quite theevent. People gather along the streetssurrounding the American Museum ofNatural History to watch the hundreds ofvolunteers unfold the balloons, weight themdown and pump them with helium. It takesabout six hours to inflate a balloon. Theballoons are carefully guided along theparade route the next morning by 25 to 50handlers.
While a wonderful asset, the balloons arenot without risk. In spite of officials' bestefforts to keep the balloons a safe attractionfor one and all, accidents do happen. In1957, the hat on one of the balloons filledwith rain and doused spectators. In 1997,high winds whipped a balloon into alamppost, toppling it over and injuringinnocent bystanders. In 2005, anotherballoon struck a lamppost, injuring a coupleof spectators.
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day paradeballoons are a big hit with viewers. Withoutthem, the parade just wouldn't be the same.
Felix the Cat was the Macy'sThanksgiving Day Parade's first ever
giant balloon, introduced in 1927

People first started putting lights onChristmas trees back in the middle of the17th century. They attached small candles tothe ends of tree branches with wax or pins. Before electricity was widely available, people didn't usually put up their trees untilDecember 24 because of the risk of fire.Once electric Christmas tree lights wereinvented, people started to put up treesearlier, and leave them up longer.
The American custom of using electriclights began in 1882 when Edward Johnsonan associate of Thomas Edison, hand-wired80 red, white and blue bulbs and woundthem around a rotating evergreen tree. Then, in 1895, President Grover Clevelandset up a lighted Christmas tree in the WhiteHouse and the general public began tonotice. So began the tradition.
General Electric (Edison's company)began bringing good things to light as the1800s came to a close, offering hand-blownbulbs that needed to be wired together like
beads on a string. Homeowners had to hirea "wireman" to stab the mess together, much as you'll have to call someone to getyour new computer online tomorrow.
In 1900, some large stores started to putup large illuminated trees to attractcustomers. Members of high society beganhosting Christmas Tree parties. These weregrand events since a typical lighted tree ofthe early 1900s cost upwards of $300 (morethan $2000 in today’s dollars), including thegenerator and wireman´s services.
In 1903, The American Eveready Co.came out with the first humane Christmaslight set, including screw-in bulbs and a plugfor the wall socket. In 1908, Ralph Morriscame up with the idea of pulling the lightsfrom an old telephone switchboard andwiring them on a tree, running them from abattery.
The person responsible for popularizingChristmas tree lighting is Albert Sadacca. Atragic fire in New York City in 1917, causedby the continuing practice of lighting thehighly flammable tree with candles, gave15-year-old Albert Sadacca an idea. Now itjust so happened that Albert’s family, whohad come from Spain, had a noveltybusiness selling wicker cages with imitationbirds in them that lit up.
Albert suggested to his parents that theybegin making electric lights for Christmastrees. They had lots of bulbs on hand, and itwould be much safer than using candles. The Sadacca's thought Albert had a goodidea, but only one hundred strings ofelectric Christmas tree lights sold in the firstyear. After Albert thought of painting thebulbs red, green, and other colors insteadof using plain glass, business picked upsharply. Albert became the head of a multi-million dollar company.
This company, started by Albert Sadaccaand his two brothers, Henri and Leon had aslow first year but the New York City noveltystore grew into NOMA Electric Companyand quickly became the largest Christmaslighting company in the world. They losttheir edge in 1965 to internationalcompetition.

When preparing for the holidayseason, people observe varioustraditions from decorating a Christmastree to hanging stockings from themantel to tying a sprig of mistletoe in adoorway. Anyone familiar with themistletoe tradition knows that meetingunder it often ends in a kiss, as the song"I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus"alludes to. But what is the history behindthe mistletoe tradition?
Although parasitic by nature, mistletoe has long been considered amystical, magical plant. Many ancientcultures believed the plant to healsickness, protect life and enhance loveand fertility. Europeans often hung itover the entrances to their homes, barnsand stables to ward off bad spirits.
The plant was also considered asymbol of peace in many cultures. TheDruids, for example, believed it to be sopowerful that warring clans would cease
battle upon the first sight of the plant. InScandinavia, individuals meeting underit in conflict could declare a truce or kissand make up.
In the Norse myth of the death of thegod Balder, the mistletoe has potent butpromising properties. Balder dreams heis going to die and tells his motherFrigga. Alarmed, Frigga securespromises from everything and everyonenot to harm Balder, except for themistletoe. Aware of this, the mischievousgod Loki tricks the blind god Hoder intoshooting Balder with an arrow made of
mistletoe. Balder dies, much to Frigga'shorror. As Frigga sheds tears on themistletoe plant, its berries turn white.Eventually Frigga brings Balder back tolife, and in celebration, kisses everyoneshe meets under the mistletoe. Fromthat day forward, the mistletoe bringsonly kisses of joy to those who comeinto contact with it.
The tradition of kissing under themistletoe was the basis of kissing ballsheld in England during the 18th century.Any girl caught beneath the mistletoecould not refuse a kiss of friendship orlove and would be married within a year.Today, in some parts of England, themistletoe must be burned on the 12thnight so that all of young men andwomen who have kissed beneath it maymarry.
Mistletoe remains a holiday traditionassociated with kissing in manycountries today. People often hang up asprig of mistletoe in a doorway or roomand exchange a kiss whenever theymeet beneath it. Legend has it thatcouples in love that kiss beneath themistletoe will one day marry and have along, happy life together.

“BEING THANKFUL FOR WHAT WE HAVE”“Do not worry about anything, but in
everything by prayer and supplication withthanksgiving let your requests be made
known to God.” – Philippians 4:6
It has been said, “Gratitude is the believer’sfirst response to God.” That is because we haveso much to be thankful for … Jesus Christ … theBible … the Church … Salvation … Resurrection… and Eternal Life to name a few. We can add tothe list the everyday blessings we often take forgranted such as family … friendships …democracy … and freedom.
Most of us know people who are not rich inthings but are rich in things that matter most. Inone of the churches I served we sent out teams oftwo to visit members in their homes for the annualstewardship campaign. One team returnedsaying that a person they judged to have very littlemade a very generous commitment … a modernday example of the Biblical “widow’s mite.”
We often do not appreciate what we haveuntil we no longer have it. There is a wonderfulstory about a farmer who had lived on the samefarm all his life, but now he desperately craved achange. So he decided to sell the old place andbuy another more to his liking. He listed the farmwith a real estate agent, who looked over theproperty and prepared an ad for the newspaper.
The agent read to the farmer this veryflattering description: “Beautiful farmhouse, ideallocation, excellent barn, good pasture, fertile soil,up-to-date equipment, well-bred stock. Neartown, near church, near school. Good neighbors.”
“Wait a minute,” said the farmer. “Read thatagain.” And again the description was read,“Beautiful farmhouse, ideal location …”
“Changed my mind,” said the farmer. “I’m notgonna sell. All my life I’ve been looking for a placejust like that!”
Again, we need to open our minds and eyesand be thankful for what we have.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give me one thing more,a grateful heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.Peace to you and please join us this Sunday in achurch where “Jesus’ love is lived.”- Rev. Dan Minor

November isHomelessnessAwareness MonthBy helping ChristianNeighbors help others,You May Win!!This is just one of the true stories of families helped by Christian Neighbors....
Jason and Amber were homeless for several months. Jason washospitalized in Tennessee and almost lost his life. He has a heartcondition and was on life support at one time. Jason is now in rehab, learning to walk again and improving his speech. Christian Neighborshas been blessed to help them find and secure affordable housing, helpwith budgeting and to provide food. Jason and Amber are preparingfor the birth of their first child, and are grateful to Christian Neighborsfor providing assistance, resources and hope.
Not having a place of your own due to health conditions seems unfair. Nothaving the security of a home while pregnant can be traumatic. I’mthankful we were able to help this young couple. As the leaves are falling offthe trees and frost is on the ground in the mornings, I’m very thankful theyhave a place of their own. I’m always thoughtful of others who may behomeless or just a paycheck away. Let November (Homeless Awareness Month)be a time you thank God for the security of being able to sleep in your own warmbed. I challenge you also to remember all those who don’t.
