(CEP)istoimproveaccesstofreeschool
meatsineligiblehighpoverty
LocalEducational
Agencies(LEA5)andschoolsandtoeliminate
theadministrativeburdenofcollecting
householdapplications.
TheCEPwasphased
inoveraperiodofthree
yearsinalimitednumberofStatesandwillbe
availablenationwidebeginningJuly1,2014.
CurrentlyLEAsandschoolsinelevenStates
areparticipating,includingtheDistrictof
Columbia,Illinois,Kentucky,Michigan,New
York,Ohio,WestVirginia, Florida,Georgia,
Maryland,andMassachusetts.
EligibilityCriteria
Insteadofapplications,schoolsuseclaiming
percentagesbasedonthenumberofidentified
studentsforreimbursement intheschool.Identified
studentsareprimarilycertifiedforfreemeals
throughdirectcertification.LEAsand/orschools
must haveanidentifiedstudentpercentage
ofat
least 40%.
LEAsmultiplytheidentifiedstudentpercentageby
afactorof
1 .6toarrIveatthefreeclaiming
percentage.Thedifferencebetweenthefree
claimingpercentageand100%
results
inthepaid
claimingpercentage.
