A great event to practice and tune skills for small boats sailed off the Ford Yacht Club Small Boat Harbor with a series of

several races. Bring your Force 5 or Lightning, but we encourage all small boat designs to come join us.

 SAILING INSTRUCTIONS 1.) MANAGEMENT AND RULESa) The races will be under the management of the Ford Yacht Club Race Committee, which will have full and final authority in establishing the racing articles and in interpreting the rules. The Monday Night Small Boat Racing will be governed by the RACING RULES of SAILING (RRS), and the prescriptions of the UNITED STATES SAILING ASSOCIATION except as modified by these sailing instructions, which shall take precedence if conflicts occur. In addition, yachts shall abide by all rules as prescribed by their rating rule (Lightning Class Association or Force 5 Class Association). 2.) ENTRIESa) Entry is open to all one design sailing dinghies that meet the Federal Requirements for Safety. The Skipper must ensure that the yacht is well found, thoroughly seaworthy, and that the hull, spars, rigging, sails, and all equipment is properly maintained and stowed and that the crew knows where it is kept and how it is used.b) Any changes to these Sailing Instructions will be posted on the official notice board inside the front entrance to Ford Yacht Club 3 hours before the first class starts.c) Personal flotation devices or harnesses are recommended to be used.d) Eligible boats may enter by signing up for the race on www.notirceofrace.net and completing the application form and delivering it, together with the required fee, to the Race Chairman by 9PM, July 12. 3.) RADIO COMMUNICATIONa) VHF can be used during racing and Channel 71 will be used for communication, as well as for notification of a race being canceled due to severe weather conditions.b) Any yacht which retires from the race shall contact the committee boat on channel 71 or by sailing by the R/C boat and communicating directly. 4.) RATINGSa) Yachts racing in One Design must have a current one design certificate, sticker, or other proof of current membership. 5.) SCORINGa) The Low Point Scoring System, RRS Rule A2, applies.b) For every 6 races in the series, there will be 1 throw out.c) A boat that does not start (DNS) will be scored the number of boats starting for the class plus one. A boat that does not start and does not come to the starting area will be scored a (DNC), total number of registered boats plus one. A boat that starts but does not finish (DNF) will be scored the number of boats that finish, plus one. A boat that is disqualified (DSQ) is scored the number of boats registered, plus two.d)    For final scoring purposes, a regatta or series lasting multiple weeks, “boat” will be defined as the skipper or co-skippers who sail or drive the boat the majority of the time and not the specific yacht. Co-skipper’s must be listed when signing up for a race. Changing boats during a series shall only be used to increase participation and promote the local one design fleets and not for any competitive advantage.

6.) PENALTY SYSTEMa) The Two Turn rule RRS #44.2 is modified so that a 360° Turn Penalty is acceptable to exonerate oneself from a violation of RRS Part 2 rules. 7.) PROTESTSa) Yachts protesting must follow Part 5, Section A of RRS, except there shall be no charge for filing a protest.b) A boat wishing to protest must file their protest with the RACE COMMITTEE within one (1) hour of the last boat to finish. c) Protesting boats shall notify the Race Committee upon finishing of their intent to protest. Include the sail number(s) of the boat(s) being protested.d) Protest shall be written on USSA forms (see p.119 - 122 of the RRS). 8.) STARTa) The race will be started using a three-minute sequence. All classes start between the RC flag on the CommitteeBoat and the designated start buoy 

9.) FINISHa) The finish line will be designated as between the committee flag on the committee boat and designated finishing markb) There will be a 1 hour time limit for each class from the time of the class start. A class will remainracing as long as one boat finishes within the time allowance. 10.) SCHEDULE The race committee will announce the planned schedule of races and the warning time for the first race at theskipper’s meeting. Should wind, weather, or other conditions make it impossible to complete the planned numberof races, the series results will be based on the actual number of races completed. 

11.) COUSE The race will be sailed in the Detroit River off the FYC small boat harbor. The courses may consist of windward –leeward and/or modified Olympic Triangles set the day of the race and may be adjusted for changes in winddirection. 

12.) AFTERGLOWAll participants are invited to Ford Yacht Club small boat harbor pavilion after the race to enjoy the evening with fellow competitors. 13.) AWARDSFun awards will be given away for each class of this event based on the number of starters. Awards will be presented after the race on July 20.
